big weekend for team g:tb, weather permitting.

shlara, the teej, mrs. the teej, and i are attending the gheorghetown/odu game at the hoyas' on-campus arena on saturday night - assuming deecee doesn't get 4 feet of snow.

meanwhile, the tribe takes on vassar saturday at 1:00. that's the william & mary tribe, possessors of the nation's most-efficient offense according to ken pomeroy. (and the 294th most efficient defense).

Dave said...

because i only see the teej on the fishing trip, it's hard for me to imagine married teej.

rob said...

mark-paul gosselaar is half-indonesian. so there you go.

Whitney said...

This holiday season has been marked by my eight-year-old daughter deciding that her favorite seasonal tune is "Christmas in Hollis." Victory.

zman said...

Don't overlook "Santa Claus Goes Straight to the Ghetto." The Snoop Dogg version, not the James Brown version. Of course.

Mark said...

Did you just really compare those two songs Zoltan?

I feel sick. I feel like I don't even know you. Oh wait, I don't.

zman said...

Sorry Mark. I've been listening to "A Funkadelic Christmas," available free here:

http://tinyurl.com/y9epkkp

It has Snoop but not Run DMC so maybe that's why it's stuck in my head. And the Snoop Christmas song uses the same sample as Big Daddy Kane's "Smooth Operator," which counts for a lot in my book.

rob said...

thundersnow!

Mark said...

If Big Daddy Kane was involved it would count for a lot in my book. In my world Snoop died shortly after releasing Doggystyle. It's much better that way.

Whitney said...

In Mark's world, Pensacola borders Biloxi and it's decriminalized everywhere.

T.J. said...

Well, "the Teej" just managed to be the emcee of his holiday party and still have a job, so let's all celebrate that,

Mark said...

Wrong again Whitney. Never been to Pensacola or Biloxi and I don't plan on going. Ever.

It is decriminalized everywhere though.

mayhugh said...

Montana-NOVA on ESPN 2. Let's get it on.

TR said...

The Nets are losing 70-33 at the half. Brutal.

rob said...

whitney sucks

Mark said...

And how...

rob said...

storm of the milennium has begun at my house. if you don't hear from me tomorrow, send help.

Mark said...

Brett Blizzard?

I heard it was going to get rough up there. I guess I should stop bitching about it raining, huh?

rob said...

eric snow

the hype for this storm is epic. classic dc.

Mark said...

If you're scoring at home, that's two Brett Blizzard references from me this week. I'll never forgive Drew Nicholas. Never.

rob said...

nice reference

and a tidy 9 and a half minute drive for villanova to start the second half

T.J. said...

I hate Villanova...but screw you Montana...

Shlara said...

I may have to revise my position on this "snow storm"

Just drove home from the city and its already sticking...

rob said...

this does not bode well for the kickoff off the gtb dc hoops tour

T.J. said...

The weather outside is a tad frightful...as is my breath...and BAC.

T.J. said...

Can I assume at least Mayhugh is watching this 1-AA Championship game with me too?

rob said...

hi, teej!

T.J. said...

Montana needs a miracle...oh wait, these fuckers scored 40 in a 18 minute span three weeks ago. Sorry 'Nova.

Oh hi rob...already giving up on tomorrow?

rob said...

not looking good, my friend. i'll be surprised if they play - gw and catholic have already cancelled exams. snowmageddeon.

T.J. said...

You hope while I hurry
You pray while I plan
We’ll do what’s necessary cause
Even a miracle needs a hand

T.J. said...

I have to admit, as I sit on the couch and watch the snow fall, we might be gettin' some legit precipitation tonight/tomorrow...why couldn't this have happened on a work night?

T.J. said...

Montana might want to make a stop...

Shlara said...

CAA...dominating the FCS.

rob said...

caa was 4-4 against d-1 this year - the whole conference should move up.

T.J. said...

TR, the Knicks won tonight?

And oh my...MT has a chance...

rob said...

whoa. this just got interesting.

T.J. said...

Montana is winning this thing...

T.J. said...

So, let ne get this straight. The NCAA is investigating a USC running back for possible violations? Well duh. Reggie Bush. Oh what's that you say, it's the guy who replaced him, Joe McKngiht, they're investigating? Sure, sound right.

T.J. said...

Nice fucking grammar and sentence structure by me.

rob said...

wow - that's a horrible onsides kick.

T.J. said...

Redskin-jamarcusian

T.J. said...

Game over man.

Shlara said...

V for Villanova
V for victory..

T.J. said...

Take solace, fightin' wrens, we lost to the champs.

T.J. said...

Don't smudge the "V" brand...it's for the Marc Singer "V" and that only.

rob said...

snowpocalypse!

Geoff said...

This is pretty insane. Here in Arlington we have about 9-10 inches already. If we hit the 20 inch mark I'm thinking no work on Monday.

Whitney said...

Greg Paulus's little brother transferring from UNC to W+M can't be a bad thing, right?

Whitney said...

You know it's the giving season when Geoff posts a comment saying "9-10 inches" and there's no potshot about his sexual preferences.

Peace on earth.

Whitney said...

And Mark, my comment about Pensacola bordering Biloxi in your world meant that you hate the state of Alabama (and the universities contained within) and would just as soon it did not exist. Smart-assed geographical humor. But nice to let your crankiness preclude your cleverness.

rob said...

he hates tennessee more, but that makes the joke far more difficult to execute.

Geoff said...

Yeah Whit, you should see the scene in my living room. I'm the middle man in a soul train with Harvey Firestein and Mark Foley and we're all singing the "Snow" song from White Christmas.

Mark said...

I only have a passing hate for Alabama, Whit. It's more fear based than anything. Other than that, I like Auburn, UAB, Tuskegee and the rest so that's why I didn't get your "joke".

I'm certainly guilty of being cranky but no more guilty than you are of being un-funny. If you have to explain your joke, chances are it sucked in the first place.

Mark said...

I always thought Geoff was best suited as a quimby.

T.J. said...

Nothing is more entertaining than watching the local news during something like this...some donk standing in the street in Springfield just billed this a "natural disaster". Dude, it's a foot of snow. Relax.

T.J. said...

OK, well, not only does the snow appear not to be stopping, it actually seems to have increased here in Arlington. And so far I'm enjoying NBC 4's coverage the best.

d-train said...

i gotta tell ya, i feel left out w/most of friends and family in va experiencing winterama. we are in the midst of our own natural disaster - about 54 degrees, but w/windchill, it can't be over 50.

Marls said...

Same shit going on here in NYC, except that we have not seen a flake yet. NBC has some clown in Costanza's puffy jacket talking abot what the roads may be like if the snow comes.

d-train said...

you'd think one of the va boys would post some pics of the scenery up there.

rob said...

at least 14" on the ground here, still snowing hard. snownami.

wrens up 37-18 late in the first half.

rob said...

stand by, danimal.

rob said...

snow pics now up.

Shlara said...

I'm slowly coming to terms with the fact that we're not going to McDonough for the ODU/Gtown game tonight.

Bummer.

T.J. said...

Time to venture out for first time today and see how much snow we really have...

rob said...

a metric fuckton

d-train said...

that's good stuff...thx...
are roads at all passable? are all stuck in their homes? i miss those days.
i'll live through you all. gonna start makin sum sausage stew and crack open a bottle of somethin.

rob said...

roads are a disaster - schools in my county have already been cancelled for monday and tuesday.

d-train said...

so you all will be confined to your homes/prisons for the next 72 hours at least?

d-train said...

fyi...roadhouse on cmt (327 i think on direct tv) plus
is it snowing down in whitneyland? i assume no, and yes, i could look for myself but that's kind of what i rely on you people for. soup/stew's about done.

Greg said...

C'mon Teej, let's jump the hilly brush and then make snow angels.

mayhugh said...

Just to add my own personal experiences during this snowstorm:

I failed to go to the store last night, mostly declining to fight with the crazies over a gallon of milk. I forgot I cleaned out my fridge because I'm getting a new one, and I have nothing to cook with. I own a rear wheel drive vehicle that looks like a big pile of snow (not an inch of paintjob visible). For the next two days, my survival is essentially dependent upon a jar of greek olives, a cannister of "The Golfer's Choice" Peanuts, 2 cans of sprite, and 8 bottles of Coors. Can somebody airlift me a pack of hotdogs or some macaroni and cheese?

At least I have the New Mexico Bowl.

T.J. said...

And some decent college hoops Mayhugh. Duke/Gonzaga and TN/USC right now, and you might even want to see if Western KY can get it close against Louisville in 2nd half.

Mark said...

Sounds like we're all braving the harsh winter weather this weekend. It's as cold as it's been in weeks here.

65 degrees and sunny.

Shlara said...

so, we're not getting the duke/gonzaga game so WUSA can show the 30th consecutive hour of the snow storm....REALLY???

Mark said...

It's a blowout Shlara. You're only missing out on Matt Bouldin's curly locks.

rob said...

shlara, they've got duke/gonzaga on an alternate channel. look deep on the channel roster - it's there somewhere.

Marls said...

Did they really already cancel school on tuesday. Please tell me you were joking.

rob said...

nope, not joking. i suspect it was as much not wanting to have a one-day school week as the weather, but it's definitely canceled.

and the tribe woodshedded vassar, 94-48. vassar's a shitty d-3 squad, but the tribe's doing what they're supposed to do.

rob said...

mgl wrote earlier in the week that odu's defense would travel - so far, he looks like a genius.

and my littlest daughter is really, really into this contest. it's awesome. almost makes it worth missing the game.

Shlara said...

ODU looks good!

rob said...

odu won last time these teams played at mcdonough

mayhugh said...

OT in the first bowl game. Show some love.

Wyoming is really not very talented, so it's a good thing Fresno doesn't really emphasize defense.

mayhugh said...

Holy crap - Fresno stonewalled on three straight plays from the one.

rob said...

odu's dominating this game

Shlara said...

so I hear...stupid snow has knocked out the video feed from the gym...

rob said...

richmond beat florida. good for the tribe's rpi, not so great for mark.

rob said...

odu losing grip

zman said...

I know I'll sound like a Yankee douchewhistle when I tell this story, but...

In 2002 I lived in MA. We got 39" of snow overnight one time. I got to work at 10 am instead of 9 am, only because it took me a while to shovel my sidewalk, the old guy next door's sidewalk, and then dig my car out. My boss to to the office at 9 am. In a fucking 911 Targa. And it wasn't a Targa 4.

It snows twice a year every year in NoVa. You would have no problems if the county invested in some snow plows and rock salt.

zman said...

Cox Cable is amazing - they are constantly crippled by weather stronger than a stiff breeze.

rob said...

wow, really glad we missed that game

Mark said...

Florida loses a game in Miami to Richmond. Bad for theGators, good for the CAA.

Saints down 14-0 at the end of the 1st.

T.J. said...

rob, I suggest turning to the NFL Network now. You'll get to see the Cowboys find a way to blow this 14 pt lead.

Shlara said...

From what I saw of the ODU game, it looks like it would have been fun in person.

Now I can watch the Wizards lose to the Suns.

Good times.

Shlara said...

And, did you guys know that former Tribe guard David Cox is a Hoyas assistant coach?

rob said...

david cox, one-third of the fabled small, cox, and peters triumverate.

Mark said...

Two of the chicken wings I ordered are fused/breaded together. I feel like everybody should see this.

Also, Rutgers-UCF nails a couple of the G:TB staffs home markets. TR or I shouldve probably previewed thus craptastic bowl game.

Mark said...

This just in: If you are a knight that's beholden to a specific color, you're super fucking gay. We're talking about a cross between Geoff and Jimmy Clausen kind of gay.

Mark said...

Will Smith is a really good pass rusher but nobody ever talks about him. I have a solution:

Every time he gets a sack, he should do the Carlton. That...would be fun.

rob said...

jesus, reggie bush is more fragile than whitney's liver

rob said...

mark, that's fucking genius

Mark said...

If I ever acquire a really fat dog I'm naming him Flozell.

Mark said...

With all this fucking snow, tomorrow's games should be pretty entertaining.

rob said...

'merry christmas, sparky', says beverly d'angelo

Mark said...

Cowboys up 24-3. So...does a win like this change the DNA of this Dallas team?

Mark said...

Well played Rob, well played.

rob said...

i got tired of watching the cowboys play well

Mark said...

This is the Cowboys' night.

Mark said...

We got a game people...

rob said...

cowboys can't blow a 3 touchdown lead, can they? please.

rob said...

and fulham beat the hell out of man u today

Mark said...

Jesus...this is some seriously fucked up shit...

rob said...

what happened on the missed fg? i'm watching the first half of 'christmas vacation'.

Mark said...

Did anybody really think the Saints we're getting a first down?

Wow.

TR said...

We are at 18" of snow and counting at the Jersey Shore beach house. Trapped in a tiny house with a 2 yr old and a newborn. NJ is getting crushed. I will be taking some good snow shots of my own on Sunday.

I fell on the sword with the wife b/c we don't have real cable - we watched The Proposal. My only comment is that Sandra Bullock's breasts are shockingly tiny. She may be an A cup. Makes Nicole Richie look stacked.

Mark said...

I wore a sweatshirt today. And long pants.

Mark said...

Rob... As for the FG, he just shanked it. Thats it.

rob said...

that's really not the ending i'd hoped for

Mark said...

DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer were monsters tonight. This feels like a paradigm shift for Dallas.

Then again, I'm drunk and full of holiday cheer.

rob said...

rutgers with the old 'field the onsides kick and return it forva touchdown'. i enjoy that play.

TR said...

Snow has stopped and it's a 24" dump. The Jersey Shore and Long Island got the worst. I guess the good Lord is punishing guidos and those who wallow among them.

T.J. said...

Eh, yo, yous guys make some Snow Angelos?

Mark said...

I've got your 24" dump right here! Ay yo!!

zman said...

Dick stockton thinks he's announcing the eagles game. But the team in green is the jest.

Mark said...

Ricky William's is back to his fumbling ways. Small hands, smells like cabbage.

And Dan Fouts is repeatedly calling Tony Sparano by the name Tony Soprano.

T.J. said...

Moose, Rocco, help the judge find his shovel.

T.J. said...

Mark, go read the NY Times article on Bart Scott. He will be your new favorite player. Possibly for life.

rob said...

mark sanchez is an excellent interception thrower

Mark said...

Somebody needs to find a way to get Josh Cribbs out of Cleveland. He's on the same level as Dante Hall or Devin Hester in their primes but he's still relatively unknown. Poor guy is fucking rotting on that shitty team.

rob said...

the jet defense, on the other hand, is smothering

Mark said...

Read the article. I continue to like Scott. Always have, but it really got going when I saw him wearing a t-shirt with a Tribe line on PTI.

Plus, anybody who loves Ric Flair is a friend of mine.

rob said...

danny woodhead!

Mark said...

Cribbs took back another kickoff. 2 on the day. 8 in his career.

rob said...

this jets/falcons game is putrid

zman said...

Andre Johnson is good at football.

T.J. said...

Yep, the Jets are gonna find a way to lose this thing...

mayhugh said...

Rob - on the nose. All I have to watch is Jets-Falcons. It may have convinced me to change my service provider.

T.J. said...

Now you know how every non-Skins fan has felt for virtually an entire decade of Sundays.

zman said...

jay ee ess tee!

T.J. said...

How do you not cover Tony Gonzalez? Stoopid fuckers.

mayhugh said...

Ummm, is Stockton senile or is my scoreboard wrong? It's 10-7 right?>

T.J. said...

Stockton is losing his mind.

T.J. said...

Even if they miraculously get into FG range, Feely will miss the kick. Guaranteed.

T.J. said...

Well then...nice work Dirty.

T.J. said...

Mark, when did the Dolphins come alive?

zman said...

The Bills haven't beat the Pats since 9/7/03.

zman said...

286 rushing yards for Jerome Harrison? Really? Jerome Harrison?

rob said...

federal government offices in dc are closed tomorrow. everyone gets a 1/365 rebate on your federal income tax.

T.J. said...

I'll never tell...

Yes I will. Brittany Murphy is dead.

d-train said...

just saw a news clip on brittany. an uncanny year for celeb/athlete deaths. that one would have paid really nice odds in a death pool.

rob said...

insanely good ending to the steelers/packers game. roethlisberger throws a 20-yard to on the game's final play, amazing leaning catch by mike wallace. steelers win, 37-36. this was the anti-jets/falcons.

T.J. said...

I'm too lazy to look, but with the Steelers winning that means 6 or 7 teams in the AFC are 7-7 and vying for that sixth spot, right?

Mark said...

Hey Dan, I'm sure you don't believe it could possibly be true but I suspect drugs were involved in Brittany Murphy's death.

And Rob's right, the ending to the Steelers-Packers game was sick.

The final throw and catch were unbelievable (Roethlisberger's ability to make something out of nothing late in games continues to amaze. Seriously, watch that last throw...six inches either way and there's no way he makes the catch. On top of that, Wallace made said catch with a DBs arm inside his arms which made him have to make the catch with one hand) but the whole last 5 minutes was great. Two terrific final drives, lots of big plays and a tremendous atmosphere at Heinz Field. I would be drowning in whiskey right now if I were a Green Bay fan.

rob said...

miami, jets, steelers, titans, jags, texans all 7-7. broncos and ravens 8-6. awesome.

T.J. said...

Well, I'll tell you who ain't making the playoffs on that list...the J-e-t-s jets jets jets.

T.J. said...

Mark, if you were a Packers fan, you'd be watching Larry the Cable Guy in that health inspector movie and eating a whole wheel of cheese right now. Then right into your pjs.

Mark said...

Well, it seems as though I'm a Packers fan.

rob said...

i just finished the shit out of the washington post sunday crossword puzzle. yeah, that's right.

Greg said...

Brittany Murphy is dead and the Federal Government is closed. Coincidence? Not at all.

Mark said...

Rob...call me when you finish the Friday crossword...loser.
