The Twelve Days of Gheorghe-mas: Day Nine

If ever there was a day to do a post with about a hundred YouTube clips, it's today. I have no earthly idea why I am even at work today, so I can at least take solace in wasting countless minutes watching the editorial staff submissions for G-Mas Day 9. Enough blabbering, prepare to hit play...

From the Tiny Dictator:

Whit went with some clips previously seen here at G:TB, but they are classics nonetheless:

From the Z-Man:

Mark made the mistake of kinda leaving it up to me...so yeah, he gets this gem:

Dennis failed to make a submission, so I took a shot in the dark and decided to run with this:

I think it's only fair I get to add one:

And let's close these proceedings in the most dramatic way ever:

Nice collection of clips spanning from the brilliant to the absurd and even a touch of the brilliantly absurd. Well done, boys.

Your Doofus Overlord has decided he would like to add one...maître d', joke for three please.

drama prairie dog just made me laugh out loud. i'm a simpleton.

That prairie dog is hilarious. It's the music that does it.

And, catching up from the previous post, I'm afraid to get too excited about the Tribe basketball season...I don't want to jinx them.

I don't believe I'll ever get tired of watching the remake of the Separate Ways video...

Whitney said...

Nor will I, Mark. It's very Yacht Rocky in its production design.

You think their acquisition of the Steve Perry sleeveless pink-checkerboard T preceded the making of the video or vice versa?

shlara, according to mgl at 'life as a mid-major', the ncaa's 'official' rpi ranking has the tribe at #5, between texas and west virginia. i'd be less surprised if i woke up tomorrow with a third arm.

Whitney now makes me feel bad about not posting at least one Yacht Rock video from our newest 2010 employee Greg.

Mark said...

An employee who's contributed nothing? I can't feel bad about something like that, and neither should you TJ. I will, however, get drunk and punch him multiple times tonight.

And Whitney, I like to think the checkerboard sleeveless T was the genesis of the entire production.

is that a real prairie dog?

i don't want to know, but my kids want to know.

i could care less about that prairie dog.

i might watch it one more time for my kid's sake, though.

Nice to see "One Sentence of Dave" making a four-sentence cameo incorporating the spirit of a haiku here on our humble blog.

just watched the journey parody. i have a project for this fishing trip. let's make a parody of the parody, so there's a screen within a screen within a screen. and it gives us all a reason to grow our hair long (and perhaps grow some mustaches as well).

Benefits of working on a day like Xmas Eve include:

Can dress sloppily, shaving is optional, cranking tunes at your desk is fine and, most importantly, you can fart without fear anywhere in the office.

Dave said...

i didn't mean to write that haiku style. i guess my one sentence blog is subconsciously affecting my style.

Dan said...

spot on tr. i am all of the above - unshaven, sloppily dressed, slightly gassy but without worrry, and listening to some rick springfield. don't forget the porn. duh! just kidding. or am i?

I'm listening to my finely honed Killers Radio channel on Pandora. Unfortunately, my decision to add Gaslight Anthem has brought an onslaught of Social Distortion and Flogging Molly, which, much to Whit's likely dismay, I do not enjoy.

And I'm still trying to wrap my head around a song called Big Girl (You Are Beautiful) by Mika. It's very Scissor Sisters-esque catch tune. I can't decide if it mocks or celebrates big girls. Or both. Very perplexing.

Dan said...

i'm also somewhat dismayed by the flogging molly apathy. have you tried the dropkick murphy's? perhaps they will be more to your liking.

rob said...

did you just denigrate social distortion, the teejay-described 'seminal punk band'? you take that back, tr. you take that back.

TR said...

Before we factor in the musical tastes of the Teej, let's remember that this was a man who danced in front of a man to a Lionel Richie tune that he most likely genuinely loved.

Social Distortion is good for one song, but it all runs together for me. Sure, Ball and Chain is a blast, but the rest just doesn't do it for me. I've just not been into most of the dozen or so track that I've heard from them. As for the Dropkick Murphys, the Departed song is about all I know.

rob said...

teej dropped that nugget re: social d when whit and i challenged him on the band. his response was straight from wikipedia. hilarity ensued.

give mike ness and the boys a chance - hard not to nod your head in moshpit time. bands like gaslight anthem, rancid, and even green day owe social d major debts.

and you'll dig the murphys if you give them a listen. though you'll have to suffer through some red sox glorification.

Whitney said...

TR is actually one dude I trust to have given Social D a fair listen. And my rock snobbery aside, if you give a band an honest chance and they don't grab you, my insistence that "So Far Away," "Highway 101," and "Untitled" are killer rock songs that everyone should enjoy won't do much.

TR is dead wrong, of course, but I give him credit for the attempt.

breaking bad news: george michael (of sports machine fame, not the one from wham) died this morning.

Geoff said...

Wouldn't you know it--the French horn player at the Palisades Mall is playing one of my Christmas favorites....Filthy Chi O Whore... Now its Christmas...

TR said...

In the pre-ESPN SportsCenter era, I absolutely loved George Michaels' Sports Machine. It played at 11:30 PM on Sunday nights. It was rare for me to be up that late, but it was a huge opportunity to digest sports. It wasn't until late in my college days that I realized he was a DC-based sportscaster. Bummer.

Geoff said...

I grew up on George Michael on Channel 4. Very bummed he's gone. He was sneaky old.

TJ said...

Whit and rob are old and like stupid bands. And TR I was obviously leading up to me literally dancing on the ceiling.

Dan said...

the sports machine was tight. and the celebrity wheel of death keeps on turnin.
in the words of vinnie barbarino... iss so weee-uhd.
jim vance (can't remember if that's his name - the black anchor on the same channel) and he were close. is he still sporting the earring by the way? i don't get that.

Geoff said...

Dan-
Yes on all counts. Vance still has the earring and still wears suits from Fellas Fashions.

Mark said...

We have a store like Fellas Fashions around here. It's called Fashizzle. There is now a Fashizzle II as well.
