Twelve Days of Gheorghe-mas: On the 5th Day

After a weekend off to celebrate the glory of the BCS, wallow in our annual holiday procrastination tradition, trim a tree or two, and bask in some prognosticating genius, G:TB returns to the Twelve Days and to our self-mocking template:

On the fifth day of Gheorghe-mas

Big Gheorghe gave to me
Fiiiiive(ish) feeeet of height
Four awful words
Three Richmond wins
Two sweet 'stache photos
And a fat guy in a jer-sey

Right on cue in support of G:TB12DOG, 5'6", 142-pound Manny Pacquiao hammered the taller and heavier Oscar De La Hoya Saturday night, closing the book on the Golden Boy's career, and striking more than a metaphorical blow for the little guy. Coming just weeks after Dustin Pedroia was named the American League MVP, I'm here to tell you that the Pacquiao victory portends a seismic shift in height relations. No longer will the average-heighted walk blithely through this world. We're coming for the tall next.

And Randy Newman'll never see it coming. Mostly because h
e'll be looking over our heads. A bunch of guys in the picture below better watch out, too.

Standings Update: Whit posted these numbers Thanksgiving Week...

Wheelhouse: 32-27-1
Gheorghe: 34-26

We went 2-3 during Thanksgiving Week and 3-2 this week.

The House picked ten games this week to catch up and went 5-5.

So the standings entering Week 15 look like this...
Wheelhouse: 37-32-1
Gheorghe: 39-31

1.5 games up with 15 left to pick. I believe that puts our magic number at 14.

Time to start chilling the bubbly...

if it's true as reported that rod blagojevich tried to hold up the obama transition team in exchange for appointing the senatorial replacement obama favors, well, gtb salutes blago's enormous cojones. and hopes he gets to spend a lot of time in the slammer.

Rob, Paul "The Punisher" Williams has something to say about your PacMan argument. He's former WBO welterweight champion. He's 6'1. Welterweight is 140-147. 27 of 26 wins coming by knock-out. You read all that right.

Uh oh, do we need Whit to step in here and correct unfrozen caveman lawyer'S "possessive versus contraction" issues?

mayhugh said...

We tall guys stick together.

Seriously, Dennis, you focused on that rather than the fact this guy is 6'1", 147? SIX ONE, ONE FORTY-SEVEN. That defies the laws of, well, pretty much everything.

you'll never see us coming, mayhugh. by the time you feel an unpleasant gnawing sensation in your calves, it'll be too late.

T.J. said...

Oh Mayhugh, you and your laws.

Does Davidson have anyone that can do anything other than Stephan Curry?

T.J. said...

He's scored their last 11 pts to give Davidson a two point lead with 34 seconds left. Do they need anyone else?

Andrew Lovedale can rebound his ass off.

Shouldn't Wellington Smith be hanging out with James Bottomtooth at the New Yorker?

Mark said...

I believe its James Bottomtooth III.

Seriously though, that lefty in/out to crossover pull-up three that Curry hit to take the lead was ridiculous.

I'm kind of pumped for this Nova-Texas game. Just so many good guards involved. The Reynolds-Abrams matchup will be fun to watch for sure, but the Justin Mason-Corey Fisher matchup should be pretty good too.

Speaking of good guards, I just watched Derrick Rose play his first pro game for the Bulls. He is very very good and lightning quick off the dribble.

Jared Jeffries - not so good. Or dangerous off the dribble.
