Everyone remember Jimmy "The Rent Is Too Damn High" McMillan? Well, the man has really outdone himself now:
That's just, well, wow. Wow.

GheorgheFest: Video Surfaces
Gheorghe: the Week continues today with some grainy, wobbly footage of GheorgheFest that was captured by my better half.
The video below would be the beginning of worlds colliding, as it captures Ghita's entrance to the Verizon Center suite on Saturday evening So, enjoy some seriously handsome guys drinking copious amounts of alcohol around a 7'7" ex-NBA baller.
I am digging through the video archives right now...I think we might have a gem or two to add to this post later.

Multi-Tasking
This video:
1) Continues our recent (long-standing?) trend towards laziness and YouTube-based filler;
2) Finally gets something up to replace Dave's text-heavy, yet edifying assignments; and
3) Encapsulates my message to the people that are still talking about Jay Cutler.
(Bonus - and features a cute girl "saying" naughty stuff.)

So This is Christmas
Because what says Christmas Eve better than a borderline insane and unquestionably brilliant Scotsman on a freestyle bike. This one had me and my kids unabashedly shouting 'whoa!' for half an hour last night.

Apologies for commandeering some of Rob's space here, but given Sports Machine George Michael's passing and the mention of his colleague Jim Vance in the previous post comments, here's a fun clip from those two...

Friday Clip Fun
One of my favorite Ice Cube tunes of all time. I do however suggest keeping the volume reasonably low on this, for pretty obvious reasons. This is probably my second favorite "diss track" of all time.

Let's give this another try
After the solid effort produced yesterday by all members of the Gheorghosphere, I felt you earned this. Happy Spring, Happy Tourney Day 2...and Happy Me, because soon Dennis and I will be hitting the road with the Commodore for some Atlantic City fun.

A final goodbye to one bad mutha...
I was out yesterday, or else you would've been treated to this final G:TB "tribute" to Isaac Hayes, who sadly passed away Sunday. And by "tribute" I of course mean this minimal amount of prose and an appropriate YouTube clip. There are many to choose from in Isaac's case, but I've always been partial to his fantastic work in this extremely underrated 1981 Kurt Russell vehicle (and apparently, so was someone on YouTube, so thanks "Terra812"):
"They sent in their best man, and when we roll across the 59th Street bridge tomorrow, on our way to freedom, we're going to have their best man leading the way - from the neck up!"

Kevin Garnett thinks very little of your streak
Boston 94, Houston 74. So, I guess the Celtics are pretty good?

I think the title pretty much explains it...
"Dickhead catches cricket ball with face"...though can we really be sure the guy is a dickhead? Did he deserve to take one off the melon? I guess we'll never know. Enjoy this filler while we await the recap of Rob and Whit's journey to the Verizon Center to see Gordon Sumner and his ensemble butcher their hits of yesteryear.

Yeah, Gheorghe is realllly struggggling...
He is sorry he has let you down. He truly has nothing to offer...except this:

If it ain't broke...
...I swear, someday there will be more than just clips around these parts, but I found another doozy this morning and needed to share. I actually like this one quite a bit more than the Notre Dame clip below. Enjoy "Mr. Overconservative, Egotistical Football Coach"...
"Let's run it up the middle..." gets me everytime.

I'm out the next few days...don't miss me too much
I'm headed back to our alma mater for work for a few days, and though I enjoy the reminder below of Rob losing that Clemens/Wakefield bet to me, I can't help but bump that post for this truly inspired clip. I'm not sure if this is the most horrifying clip ever posted on YouTube, but it is god damn close. Dennis, can you please confirm whether these guys were on our freshman hall?

Why must Hollywood ruin everything?
Last week, I'm wasting time on IMDB and discovered they are making a sequel to The Untouchables. Fucking unbelievable. Then today, I see this headline from The Hollywood Reporter (yep, I spend so much time on the internet each day THR is now an almost daily destination):
"New Tron races on"
That's right folks, someone at Disney thought we needed to deface the cult classic Tron, ignoring the fact that the original was a slice of movie-making brilliance, the first major studio release to use computer-generated images extensively. The movie will be directed by Joseph Kosinksi, who apparently is good at directing commercials (however, I see he is also doing the Logan's Run remake, so I guess the whole notion of "fresh" ideas is foreign to him him). The dude who wrote and directed the original, Steven Lisberger, apparently needs a paycheck badly and will sell out as one of the sequel's producers.
According to the article, plot details/storylines are being kept secret for the (completely unnecessary) sequel, and in fact, the lazy S.O.B.s at Disney intend to call the sequel the same exact name as the original. Give me a break people. From what I can tell, the only thing Tron fans can look forward to is this:

"When making the original, in order to convince the studio to take a chance on a first-time director, Lisberger shot a test reel, financed by the studio, involving the deadly Frisbee battle. In a case of historical synchronicity, sources said one of the things Kosinski will be doing is working on a sequence involving the movie's Light Cycles to work out his vision for the movie."Of course, G:TB, through various devious methods, has obtained some of this new Light Cycle footage (come on, I know some of you saw this coming after the opening sentence):

There's no way this is real...right?
You'd think after two plus years of searching YouTube I wouldn't be surprised by what I find. But this...this...I mean, really?

Jonas Salk, H.B. Reese
I was reflecting the other day about one of Gheorghe: The Blog's posts from earlier this summer. The Jonas Salk part of that story made me think very, very deeply -- and, as those who know me well will tell you, I am surely wont to do.
Our parents' generation saw the debilitating disease polio go from a tragically common occurrence to a thing of the past, so much so that we -- merely a generation later -- can't really relate to their fear of it. It's one among many things we take for granted, but it's a significant one by any standard.
Eerily similarly, however, our generation now breathes a quiet sigh of relief knowing that the rampant, inevitable, and often violent collisions involving persons carrying chocolate bars and other persons carrying open jars of peanut butter have been curbed almost entirely out of existence. It's a wee bit disappointing to think that the kids today cannot truly appreciate this eradication, but the magic of YouTube can demonstrate just the tip of the iceberg on a crisis that was spiraling out of control . . .
* * * *
Oh, and one more thing to file under "Things I Learned from Television in the 1970's":
Italian-Americans with surnames ending in "elli" or "ello" are instantly made thoroughly more endearing people if you simply call them by the surname's first syllable (Fonz, Ponch, etc.). It really softens an otherwise potentially hard-edged citizen. Try this with neighbors, colleagues, etc. -- it works.
Exception: in college I had a female professor for The Study of Language whose last name was Scancarelli. (Both c's are hard, but not as hard as she was.) IT DID NOT WORK. I failed the class, which was a large reason why the English Department disowned me soon thereafter.

Easing Back In
I see Rob did finally get something up last night (Sweet Lou!) [Editor's Note: Rob was not happy with a YouTube clip burying his bold World Series prediction, so much like the Man of Steel in the original Superman, I have manipulated time], but I would be remiss if I didn't pass along what I can only classify as the oddest YouTube clip I have ever viewed. Perhaps this has been floating around the interweb for a few days - I wouldn't know, I am just emerging from the OBFT Coma today. Let's set this up: Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center in the Philippines, an army of inmates and the self-anointed King of Pop as the soundtrack. Enjoy...

Taking what I can get
I spent an inordinate amount of time today searching for a particular video, something that would serve as a timely tribute to an action movie icon, especially in light of today being the release of "Live Free or Die Hard" [As it turns out, I'm an idiot - the movie releases next Wednesday]. Alas, once I did find that clip, the one of Bruce Willis singing "Respect Yourself", I discovered some YouTube douchebag disabled the embed option. What was I to do (certainly not my work)...so I soldiered on and dug up this equally classic example of 80s movie star arrogance. Added bonus: Rick James is prominently involved in this...
