"Subtlety" is his middle name

So, I'm flipping by MTV2 yesterday, and some sort of show called "Sucker Free" is showing rap videos. I pause for a moment, for obvious reasons, and then start to actually listen to the lyrics...there might not be a more entertaining song/video combination on the air right now than this:

My wife and I were stuck home for NY Eve 2007 b/c we just had a kid. We ended up drinking wine and watching the terrible countdown specials. One special was hosted by Tila Tequila. She interviewed Akon (getting a sense of exactly how terrible it was?). She asked him his New Year's resolution. He resolved to "have a sucker-free 2008." I told my wife that was my resolution as well. I've yet to receive confirmation if that actually transpired for him or not. It did for me.

If you're real and you know it, clap your hands.

A video employing auto tune AND slow-mo throughout! Very cutting edge. Highly enjoyable nonetheless.

Sotomayor just received a lecture about the All-Star Game. Incredibly smarmy.

I recall Jerry taking note of a host on 106th and Park resolving to "stay righteous" in 2005. I also cannot say for certain if said resolution was accomplished.

By the way, since no one gets Greg's references anyway, the rap video after this on "Sucker Free" was exactly as described: awful verses followed by a rowdy chorus of "If you're happy and you know it clap your hands"...

I thought it was very nice of Drake to work an "Andy Griffith" reference into his tune...

Not that anybody cares but under the radar athletic freak and possible superstar Anthony Randolph had 42 last night in a summer league game on 16-21 from the field.

Yeah, cause Summer League equals success.

Hey Mark, is Steph Curry Kerry Kittles...or much much worse?

Or, is he Drazen Petrovic? (Yeah I went cross racial/cultural)

Geoff said...

He's Vinnie Johnson.

Say what you want but Randolph is a unique talent. Nellie might ruin him but he could also be a perennial All-Star within a few years.

As for Curry. His ceiling is Mark Price...but he's more likely along the lines of what Geoff's talking about. Vinnie Johnson, World B. Free, Andrew Toney. A more modern comparison is Randy Foye (though Curry is obviously a superior shooter).

In case anybody didn't catch all of Drake's dope lyrics, here's a snippet from the wordsmith:

She call me the referee
Cuz I be so official
My shorty ain’t got no stripes
But I can make your pussy whi-i-i-i-stle
Like the Andy Griffith theme song

and so commences our marketing outreach to the ladies.

"In 1972 owner Charlie Finley offered his players $300 if they'd grow mustaches as part of a Father's Day promotion. All 25 did, and the 'staches became a team trademark. Rollie Fingers even had a clause written into his contract that he would be supplied with wax for his handlebars."
