Monday Morning Trivia: NHL Edition

Quick shot of trivia to start your day - Name the top 10 all-time NHL points leaders. I saw this list this morning and reflected fondly on the times when I used to care about professional hockey.

One clue - Five of these players played on the New York Rangers.

First prize winner gets a kiss on the mouth from TJ.

The first two are no-brainers.

You're way off with Leetch. You are one pathetic loser. No offense.

I'll take 2 out of 3 in this category. This is hockey we're discussing after all.

Rob is 2/5 in his guesses.

Since nobobdy really cares (including me), here is the top 10:

1-Gretzky (2857)
2-Messier (1887)
3-Howe (1850)
4-Ron Francis (1798)
5-Marcel Dionne (1771)
6-Yzerman (1755)
7-Lemieux (1723)
8-Sakic (1641)
9-Jagr (1599)
10-Esposito (1590)

1,2,5,9 and 10 played for NYR.

i know lemieux's career was cut somewhat short, but gretzky leading by 700 points over the number 2 guy is freaking insane.

Gretzky's numbers are Ruthian. Or perhaps Ruth's numbers are Gretzkyan?

Can we get a Yootoob post of Esposito's Vidal Sassoon ads?

can you think of any other major sport career mark that's so above and beyond the field? jerry rice's td record, maybe?

Because the public (or at least I) demanded it:

Feel free to use this if you ever encounter an uppity Ranger fan.

Bob Beamon's long jump record was similarly preposterous as the time he set it. I think Hank Aaron has an insane number of RBI too.

Rice's yardage records are impossible:

Joe D's hitting streak...second place is still 12 games shorter than his streak.

The Redskins were 3-0 against the NFC Championship Game combatants.

Marcel Dionne is a great sneaky trivia guy. He's on all the lists and nobody ever talks about him.

For the record, I probably would've gone 6 for 10.

Jerry said...

It really is mind-boggling how good Gretzky was. It's just hard to imagine a hockey player -- especially one that's not physically overwhelming -- scoring as much as he did.

I'd have to put Lumpy's Schmuck-off winless streak right at the top of that list. Unattainable record.

Gheorge still provides more NHL coverage than ESPN. Hosers.

I don't remember Espo doing Vidal Sassoon ads, but I remember Ron Duguay doing Jordache jeans ads. He was the Jon Bon Jovi of hockey to women in New Jersey in the late 70's, before Chico Resch and the Devils took the state by storm*.

*Editor's note - this has yet to happen.

That's some catchy feces: "Ooh-la-la Sassoon..."
