The scariest thing you'll see this Friday the 13th

Now that we've let Mark's inaugural G:TB post breathe for a little while, I felt it was time to share this small screen gem with everyone. It never ceases to amaze me how awesome local TV commercials can be:

What, no more thrilling soccer updates?

Sure, we believe you:

"NASA: Metal clip fell off shuttle but not problem"

There is nothing about that clip that isn't making me laugh. Starts with a bang, the snazzy repeat intro and gay leap, gets better with his terrible 80's lingo, white sneakers, and pirouettes, and is capped off with the collision. This should be an ad in between episodes of Yacht Rock.

...speaking of which, I trust every G:TBer has taken the time to view YR in its entirety by now.

whit, is there any chance the star wars and western you "produced" in college are available for online loading?

rob said...

kuyt! holland! foofaraw!

Whitney said...

I have thought about that recently. Don't forget the 70's video, too. They work well as a trilogy. I will look into it. Been a long time since I dusted them off.

Hey, R. Kelly is free to continue banging and peeing on underage girls. A victory for all Americans, really.

Somewhere, Chris Hansen lurks...

if nobody goes lower than -3 today at the open, the field's gonna be a clusterfuck on the weekend. 90+ could make the cut.

Whoa, Tim Russert just died.

rob said...

whoa. how?

T.J. said...

Apparently a heart attack here at the DC NBC news bureau.

rob said...

i was listening to his kid on the radio with james carville at lunch. russert was 58 - that sucks.

Geoff said...

I'm really bummed about Russert. That guy was consistently awesome.

Whitney said...

Heart attacks continue to claim my favorite folks in their respective realms. Joe Strummer, Dave Flynn, now Tim Russert.

Seems like modern medicine could be doing something about preventing this, but until guys break down and get their tickers checked out regularly and submit to doing something about their condition if they have one, it's gonna keep happening.

Geoff said...

Losing Russert and Jim McKay, two of the few universally respected figures in journalism, in the same week is a pretty devastating coincidence.

rob said...

charlie jones died, too.

Geoff said...

The NBC Sports guy? His timing was...poor...

I know TJ thinks soccer is boring but there was a 10 minute stretch in the second half of the France-Holland game that was electric. 3 goals (2 for The Dutch, 1 for France) capped off by a by Arjen Robben from an absolutely impossible angle.

Nehterlands just went up 4-1. They look unstoppable in these first couple of games.

rob said...

dutch treat, indeed.

thank you, thank you.

rob said...

davis love - last hurrah?

Mark said...

I know a fair amount about soccer but I don't understand the reasoning behind the uniforms. I already talked about Turkey but how about Italy wearing all blue? And the Dutch wear orange and baby blue socks? What the fuck happened to wearing your national colors or at least something resembling them?

rob said...

well, holland was long ago ruled by the duke of orange. and italy's team became the azzurri some time ago.

rob said...

in fact, william iii of orange lent his name to the worst basketball program in division 1.

rob said...

per wikipedia:

"The traditional colour of the national team (as well as all Italian teams and athletes, except for motor sports which uses red) is azure blue[2] (azzurro, in Italian), due to the "Azzurro Savoia" (Savoy Blue), the colour traditionally linked to the dynasty which unified Italy in 1860. Therefore national team members are nicknamed Azzurri.

yeah, i'm killing time.

Mark said...

What about the baby blue socks? Huh, smart guy?

Whatever. These reasons are bullshit. Wear the damn colors on your flag.

rob said...

orange and baby blue are the new red, white, and blue. or whatever's actually on their flag.

i'm quite partial to the dutch unis, actually. one of my favorites in all of football.

Mark said...

I'm actually with you. The Dutch unis are cool and Italy's unis are probably the only thing I like about their national team. I just dont understand this phenomenon at all...and I'm getting old and need things to bitch about.

rob said...

'twould be something indeed if both france and italy fail to advance. if they draw, all romania need to do is lose by less than 3 to the netherlands to move on.

Greg said...

There's no major national soccer team that has adopted an all black color scheme. I think a Raiders-style black-and-silver-thug-it-up national team jersey would be pretty sweet.

Mark said...

I'm with Greg. That would be great. The US needs a little extra juice to push us up a level. I say we abandon the navy-white combo and go for Silver & Black. Hell, throw some in there for the home sides with the appropriate black and silver trim.

Greg said...

Last night a stripper offered to give me a "squeezer". A white stripper at that.

Mark said...

She called it a squeezer? Thats hilarious.

Geoff said...

What's the going rate for a squeezer these days Gregory?

rob said...

eldrick woods. holy shit.

Greg said...

Sacred feces indeed.

rob said...
