Better Know Your Minor League Mascot Tournament

It's been too long since we last brought you our Better Know Your Minor League Mascot feature. Thanks to the great minds at Baseball America, we'll kill 32 birds with one stone.

The BA team has culled the top minor league mascots from across the nation to try to identify the best in all of baseball. Dubbed Logomania 2015, the contest pits teams against one another, tournament-style. Round One is online now.

Setting aside the simply terrible contest name, (I mean, this is 2015, and Internet humor is pretty well developed at this point. There are lots of people creative enough to come up with something that didn't sound like an early 80s Warner Wolf bit.) this is an inspired bit of sports goofabilia. We both heartily approve, and look forward to the results.

For our money, we like the Brevard County Manatees, the Richmond Flying Squirrels (natch), the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the Hillsboro Hops, and the Albuquerque Isotopes.

The Daytona Tortugas have some emotional pull. Just sayin.

I root against the 51s in all events. zfamily went by their stadium to get zfather-in-law some 51s gear because he is a huge long-time Mets fan. The 51s staff treated us like herpetic lepers. They can eat 51 bags of dicks.

Speaking of bags of dicks, big Modesto Nuts fan here - think they have any chance to overtake the Visalia Rawhide in the California League North? I'll hang up and listen.

I worked for the Brevard County Manatees as they were once the Expos/Nationals A ball affiliate. Their stadium still hosts Nationals Spring Training but the minor league team is a Brewers affiliate.

The navy Manatees fitted hats are sweet.

It doesn't look like Chris Webber and Jalen Rose will be getting together for drinks any time soon.

A vendor recently took me to lunch. Turns out he grew up in the Burg and his folks still live there at Ford's Colony. I suspect he reads G:TB because he followed up today with a package containing two (TWO!) 23 oz jars (that 46 TOTAL OUNCES!) of house dressing from the Cheese Shop. I think he won my bidness.

I hear there might be a managerial opening in Visalia next spring.

When you speak of me speak well.

Does he want any bidnass down this way? Would love me some Alexis Randock. Val has approved. Green light.

Brad Friedel was/is still active with Spurs at 43???

Did anybody know this? Hugo Lloris is such a stud I could see why you (I) wouldn't.
