Record Store Day

Here's a recurring bit with some staying power.

Longtime G:TB fave Rhett Miller drops his new solo record, The Traveler, today. Solo might be a bit misleading, actually. While it's true that Miller isn't backed by his Old 97's mates, the record does feature Black Prairie and Peter Buck. The former includes members of The Decembrists, so Miller is surrounded by alt-rock royalty in his newest release.

Where fans of Miller's work with Old 97's might quibble with the highly-produced nature of some of his solo records, this one's far more free-wheeling. As the A.V. Club sees it, The Traveler sees "fiddle, piano, accordion, and acoustic guitar combine with evocative percussion to create riotous twang-pop, brisk folk, and rollicking bar-band rock."

I don't speak fluent rock-criticese, but that sounds to me like a good-time record. Twang-pop and rollicking bar-band rock are in my wheelhouse. You can stream the record here.

Here's 'Most in the Summertime' for your listening enjoyment. It's got a more alt-country feel than most of Miller's previous solo stuff, but fans will be pleased.

couple of thoughts for clarence:

1) motherfucker, why don't you pick up a pen and stand (write) a post? your talents are wasted on 10,000 character comments.

2) the nfl can fuck itself. i'm no more likely to become a patriots fan than i am to replace rob gronkowski in their lineup. if i'm still watching more than a handful of games a year by 2020, i'll get a tattoo of dan snyder on my ass.

pour some out for svp and russillo - the best show on sports radio is ending. and fucking colin cowherd still has a gig.

Danimal said...

Seriously? How is that possible?

rob said...

van pelt is getting a new gig hosting a late-night sports/culture show (to compete with the kimmels/fallons of the world). so he has to give up the radio show.

Danimal said...

of course. I have an svp story. reached for the refrigerator handle at same time at img house in augusta last year. he said, "go ahead." I said, "thank you". he said, "sure, no problem."
thaaat's my story! something that stood out to me - he's got great posture. and is a very smart dresser.

how about craig kilborn for that gig? the tv one, not the radio one. keep svp right where he is. he doesn't need to advance his career. selfish bastard.

TR said...

Kilborn is a DOUCHEBAG.

TR said...

That's why.

agreed, but who hosts a show airing on espn at midnight is irrelevant. who hosts the 1:00 timeslot on ESPN radio is not.

LeBron had himself a pretty good game.

Ace maxs must be a reason why our human resources and our global rank in education are still low. One of the reasons is that our education is expensive. For middle up to high class people the cost of our education is nothing.

Fsu apparently at the head of pack for Golson's services.

TR said...

Is Golson's arm ready to throw for about 2,000 yards this fall? 14 starters coming back. 22 lettermen. Looking tough.

i'm drinking pappy van winkle. right. now.

This Caps-Rangers game is nuts.

Rob...I never liked that guy.

Nothing Steph Curry does surprises me anymore no matter how preposterous.
