Neck Beards and Goofy Grins

One of my favorite things in life is watching someone do something they love without regard for how cool they look or what others may think. I'm promoting cgormley's link from the comments section of the last post because of Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses' unbridled giddiness at singing with Eddie Vedder. Promise it'll make you smile.

He does have a big goofy smile at the end when he hugs Vender. Kind of a weird hug. Sort of like I-think-you-are-a-rock-god-and-I-am-not-worthy-to-be-on-stage-with-you hug.

These Bands of Horses better show up in my neck of the woods this summer.

Long live the hyphen!

That is a great clip. Amazing how good the quality of fan videos is getting. Too bad the crowd sang along so loudly, but how can you NOT sing along to that song if you're in that crowd.

Eddie Vedder and Russell Crowe have been steadily morphing into the same person over the last few years. It's starting to get creepy.

gorms, i got the same vibe. kinda cool that bridwell, who leads one of the hottest bands on the planet right now, still gets awestruck.

Are you sure that isn't Dan Auerbach?

That song was HUGE in '92. I bet Bridwell rocked out as a teenager to that tune, and it was blowing him away to be singing it at MSG almost 20 years later. Let's not forget that Pearl Jam had a run as the biggest band in the world in the mid 90's. I'm embarrassed to say I've never seen them live, but people rave about their live shows, especially at MSG. They played there a few years back and Vedder gave a rant before the end of the second set that they were so pumped to be playing at MSG and having so much fun that they didn't give a shit about fines, they were gonna keep on playing as long as they wanted. The crowd got a little happy to hear that.

i went through a period when i was very down on pearl jam because eddie struck me as a pretentious jackass. then i saw them play a set at the tibetan freedom concert in d.c. and was blown the fuck away. even though it was only 3-4 songs (because they ceded part of their set to the red hot chili peppers), it ranks among the best live performances i've seen. and eddie's still a little bit pretentious, but he's grown on me.

It's hard to get on board with a song that rhymes "bread" with "decadents."

a guy took me to see "pearl jam" (who i was always too cool for) as payback for me driving him to and from work while he had a DUI.

it was the largest collection of hat wearing white guys i've ever seen in new jersey.

and for a guy who doesn't like pearl jam, i knew every song in their two and half hour set-- they were real pros-- but they're still a little over the top for me . . .

The Pearl Jam/Neil Young performance remains my favorite MTV performance ever. Of course, Eddie never knows what to do during the guitar solos and breaks. He just kinda sways around like he wants to dance but has no idea how.

Stan Van Gundy lives in a van down by the river.

How could van gundy think that his shirt/suit combo looks good? He looks like he hangs out in a Brooklyn OTB.

i'm in philly - hoping my rental car doesn't get turned over by the mob celebrating the flyers conference championship.

I've said before, but SVG and Barkley dress almost exactly the same.

And Mayhugh, I'm saddened that LL's performance of "Mama said Knock You Out" (with his huge deoderant stains in his pits) isn't your favorite Unplugged performance.

I'd like congratulate myself for misspelling deodorant. For once I don't blame TJ. I blame narcotics.

What the hell was that?

Jesus!

Nice to see the Magic show some heart and pride tonight. As long as they have Nelson and Howard this franchise still has bright future.

The LL performance is definitely number two, but I have to deduct a point for the armpit chunks that make me gag. I want to look away, but I can't. And if you were wondering, my third favorite performance is aerosmith, kid rock, and run dmc doing Walk This Way, when Tyler and Perry come through the wall and Tyler and KR toss the mics to each other.

See Mayhugh, I added points for the armpit chunks. So disgusting it was awesome.

"Say leave that crack alone!"
