Shiny Happy Person

If you read the G:TB bylaws closely, you'll note that we're obligated by our founders' intent to post about any new Old 97s or Bob Mould music. And since the latter just released a new record, we're here to fulfill our duty.

Bob Mould's music has been described in a great many ways, from bombastic to dark to cynical to loud to cathartic. It has rarely, if ever, been described as upbeat. So when one reads this about Mould's new record: "The LP contains 11 new songs that range from well-adjusted to super happy.", it's enough to raise an eyebrow or three.

Naming the album Sunshine Rock might've been a clue that this ain't 'Black Sheets of Rain', but Mould always did have a way of hiding dark themes in killer hooks and a wall of sound. This record, though, finds Bob in a happier personal place. And us with him.

One of the simple joys of adulting: having the TV on mute with a basketball game, while playing loud music.
Never gets old.

The ones of you out there who follow me on Instagram know that I am a big fan of posting funny video clips I see on the telly. It is often Andrew Zimmern talking about eating balls, but is sometimes random items I see. One such video was Dexter Manley talking about how, when he was young, he just wanted to have sex and play football.

Dexter’s daughter Dalis just liked that post, and it made my week. It’s my second greatest social media interaction. The best was Jorge Posada’s wife liking a Ramiro Mendoza joke I made.

found out this week that a very good high school friend of mine was just confirmed as the us attorney for the central district of illinois. on the one hand, that's amazing, and couldn't have happened to a more squared-away, nice guy. on the other hand, that makes him a trump appointee, which, ewwww.

I’ve wondered whether Gorsuch and Kavanaugh have any angst over being Trump appointees. Does that make them less legitimate given that Trump might’ve won due to foreign meddling etc. and do they feel that potential illegitimacy?

tribe hangs with hofstra all the way before falling, 93-87. nathan knight with 39 and 14 for the tribe. justin wright-foreman with 48(!) for hofstra.

RTJ3 is great. Any of you who have a chance to see them live should absolutely do so.

Paul George is a far better basketball player than I thought he would ever be. Pretty cool to see after his injury and decision to stay in OKC. He’s a first team all nba guy at this point. I never thought that would happen.

The Warriors are still likely to stomp everyone but I’d love to watch a Thunder-Warriors series.

i think the playoffs are gonna be bonkers. golden state will probably win, but i could see houston, okc, and denver all pushing them. the first round in both conference will be nuts.

Both conference playoff semifinals and so on should be quite good this year.
