The only thing that could've made that commercial better would be the bull getting run over by the Kool-Aid Man after the dramatic entrance.

That commercial really made me want a beer.

Tommy James is nothing without the Shondells. I want that on the record.

Just like Harold Melvin without the Blue Notes...

If you have not seen this yet, it is impressive. Cartwheel dunk? Check. Under both legs jam? Check.

Marls is a better producer than you are a speller, The Teej.

There are several things that I love about this commercial:

1. Apparently, there was a time when middle ages white dudes were a prime malt liquor demographic.

2. High scores in pinball are worthy of buying Tommy James a beer, thus supporting Dave's beer reward theory.

3. The guy with the Bob Ross fro singing to the can right before the bull busts in. Kill me every time.

You knew this asshole would weigh in on the music.

Average White Band vs. Tommy James & the Shondells?

TJ & the Shondells cranked out the hits once upon a time, songs you knew either from them or folks who covered them. "Crimson & Clover" (Joan Jett), "Mony Mony" (Billy Idol), or Rob's fave "I Think We're Alone Now" (Tiffany). "Crystal Blue Persuasion" and my favorite "Draggin' the Line" add to the list. That they ended up pitching malt liquor . . . pretty cool.

AWB? "Pick Up the Pieces" and . . . ? Zman might know more of their work, but Scottish soul acts are mere novelties. I don't think AWB had the wherewithal to tell TJ, "Bull!"

(And neither do you people.)

Igor is going to get some hate mail from Bay City Roller fans.

Fer fuck's sake, I already do. They're shite.

Although the beginning of The Ramones' "Do You Remember Rock 'N' Roll Radio" just might've been pilfered from the beginning of the BCRs' "Saturday Night."

I never delved into Average White Band's catalog, so all I celebrate is "Pick Up The Pieces," which is a pretty good song. I like to request it at weddings.

I have delved into the Young Black Teenagers' catalog and it isn't worth celebrating, but they are all paradoxically white, sort of like the Average White Band.

Three-fifths of The Black Kids are white but their music is worth checking out despite the paradox.

The band Asia had no Asians in it. Not even close, as the supergroup was comprised of Steve, Carl, John, and Geoff, the whitiest whiteys ever to play the doubled-neck Rickenbacker.

Apparently the name was an abbreviation for the word "Caucasians."

I remember well my days with Asia... Most of all, I miss having plushie sex with groupies dressed up like the Philly Phanatic.

Greg said...

Didn't Asia team up with Europe to form the supergroup "Eurasia".

I think you are confusing that with when Men At Work teamed up with Men Without Hats to form The Brian Setzer Orchestra.
