This Day in History...Kinda

August 25, 1991
Carl Lewis sets a world record in the 100 meters, running it in 9.86 seconds (somewhere Usain Bolt rolls his eyes and chuckles).

A date I'm too lazy to look up
Carl Lewis does this, and in the process almost causes Charley Steiner to have an on-air aneurysm recapping the performance.

If you want more details on Carl Lewis' illegal drug regimen (and the US Track & Field's decsion to cover it up), rent the Bigger, Stronger, Faster DVD.

I really enjoyed the Jets talk from the last post. Unfortunately, I missed the thread. Fortunately, i don't mind dredging up old shit.

The Jets do look like they'll be terrible this year. If not for Leon Washington, they might be the worst team in the NFL this year.

Clemens and Sanchez both looked awful, and you have to wonder why pro scouts are so willing to overlook the ridiculous amount of time and protection that USC QBs are routinely afforded. It has to make their overall adjustment and learning curve even greater than usual for a rookie QB.

As for the Jags and their blackout situation. I think it has less to do with the Jags' suckiness and more to do with the fair weather nature of Jags fans (they had a winner within a couple years and therefore never developed real strong ties to the team itself) and the fact that Jacksonville is a huge city (in area) with no real centralized population or big industry (which is my way of saying the Jacksonville blows).

Now, back to your regularly scheduled time wasting.

The Jets have a decent-to-good O-line and a decent-to-good running game. The defense has some decent players too. I think they should be able to win 6 games. But history has shown that I'm an idiot.

I would love 6-10 and see no reason why they can't at least pull that off...

I say 4-12. Based on nothing other than my opinion of anti-New York bias, of course.

Love the LL world series. One of the best sports events of the summer, always.

And, does anyone else like Shaq Vs? It's highly entertaining

Did you see that Gheorghe is going to China with the Wizards in a few weeks?

Only Shlara keep us actually linked to the real Gheorghe. Does it occur to any of us that one of us should get down on bended knee and propose to her?

Thanks to Pandora, I just learned that Band of Horses has a song called Detlef Schrempf.

It's a ballad. Naturally.
