Cultural Exchange

In honor of the impending occasion of my first-ever foray into the world of NASCAR (September 12, Richmond International Raceway), I present the following for your aural enjoyment.

Nothing to do with this post at all, but has anyone seen the commercial for the movie "Gamer"? How the hell do these things keep getting greenlighted?

You mean the one where Gerard Butler plays a convict who has to be controlled by kids playing video games as his punishment....featuring Ludacris? Why yes, I have seen those. If I was on a 22 hour plane ride I wouldn't watch that movie.

Ted Kennedy's funeral procession just rolled by my office. It's huge. Tons of cheers from the crowd and Mumbles Menino is ringing the bell in Faneuil Hall 47 times. It's nicely done, but I feel like there were more people at Michael Jackson's funeral procession.

Maybe there would be more people at Teddy's if he hadn't murdered a woman. Or if he'd sold 50 million albums.

For those of you preparing your mock Big East fantasy football drafts, DC Jefferson is no longer in the running for QB. He transferred to tight end and now stands a good chance of being the back-up to Shamar Graves.

Herm Edwards...even worse in the booth than he was on the field or in the studio.

Mark, get excited, Todd Bouman appears to be in this Eagles/Jags game...

I'm so hard up for football that I'm flipping b/w two high school games. I'm mostly watching one between Venice (Fla.) and Oscar Smith (Va.) because their quarterbacks are going to Florida and Alabama, respectively, next year.

The two of them are a very interesting contrast in styles. Oscar Smith's QB Phillip Sims is one of the more highly rated QBs in the nation and is a classic drop back passer with a great arm and decent athleticism. More importantly (to me), he's also Sam Cassell level ugly with a pretty solid gut for an 18 year old.

Venice's QB, Trey Burton, is a bit of a baby Tebow in style of play and size. He's 6'3" 220 with good speed (and a taste for contact) but he's pretty raw as a passer. In fact, despite being committed to Florida as a QB, Burton is listed as an athlete on most scouting services.

The other game features Chris Spielman AND Herman Edwards in the booth at the same time. I can't watch it with the sound on anymore. My ears are bleeding.
