  3. A funny two-part story about Cedric Maxwell's tonsillectomy. Safe for work but keep the volume down anyway.

  4. ny times group is threatening to shut down the boston globe. man, time to pour some out for my homies. i love that paper. reminds me of summer. what the fuck am i gonna do when the washington post ceases to exist?

    ReplyDelete
  5. I think the Post is much better than the Globe. I read it every day online. I never go to boston.com except to look at condo listings.

I saw a guy on The Daily Show talking about the economics of the news and how newspapers did an atrocious job of adapting to the rise of the internet. It was interesting.

Newspapers are screwed. Now that I have access to NYT, WashPo, and every other newspaper on the planet, I don't have to read my lousy local paper. Hell I have G:TB, who needs a newspaper at all?

  6. i read the globe for one week every summer during my annual trip to the cape. it's got the best sports section i've ever read, but that may be parochial bias speaking, as i never get to read that much about the sox in one place. so my attachment is far more emotional than intellectual. i still read the post every day with my breakfast - i'm gonna need to figure out a new habit.

  7. It's not the same without McDonough and (to a lesser extent) Borges. Bob Ryan is still great. Shaughnessy is a tool.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Victor Borge? That guy was hilarious.

    ReplyDelete
  9. do i watch caps/pens game 2 or sox/yanks armageddon: new beginnings this evening?

    ReplyDelete
  10. The heavy rains in NYC all day may make that decision on your behalf...

    ReplyDelete
  11. it was a trick question, anyway, i'm too a.d.d. to stick to one.

  12. Too bad W&M's president doesn't write as well as its provost.

  13. wonder how he felt about l'affaire nichol?

  14. What about Celtics-Magic or Lakers-Rockets (probably too late for your blood...hell anything in the second half is for me too)?

You're already back on Stern's bad side, Rob. Which, in case you didn't know, is not a good place to be...

    ReplyDelete
  15. forgot about celtics/magic - i'll add that to the mix. kinda like the alternate jersey.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Since this seems to be a random string of thoughts, I'm going to add mine for the day.

I'm in Chicago for work and went to see the Old 97s play at the Cubby Bear last night. Awesome show. And, Rhett smiled at me. I know you're jealous, even if you are guys...

    ReplyDelete
  17. i am extremely jealous. damn you, shlara. i believe i will be seeing the boys at the recher theatre in towson on 6/27. and rhett's got a new solo record out on 6/9 - did he play any of it?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'd be jealous just that you were at the Cubby Bear. Add the Old 97's in and you've got yourself a humdinger.

  19. So I'm listening to a song by The National on some charity compilation album I downloaded. It's called "So Far Around the Bend" and I chuckle when I hear these lyrics:

"Take a bath and get high through an apple / Wanted to cry but you can't when you're laughing"

...and I think, "Where's TJ this week?"

    ReplyDelete
  20. He did play a few solo tunes. And Murray played one of his solo songs. And, I think they are both going to play solo sets at the Bmore show too. I may have to miss that show, b/c I'll be back in Chicago--but if I do go, we can have a GTB reunion.

  21. In small claims court getting a continuance so my contractor can finish my bathroom.

    ReplyDelete
  22. man, our code for illicit activity really has become quite elaborate. nice, teej.

    ReplyDelete
  23. That was good robert.

    That. Was. Good.

  24. obft should be a madhouse of confusing sayings.

and scott ian is 46 years old. i did not see that coming.

    ReplyDelete
  25. That is some surprisingly craptastic writing. In a related story, its quite odd that the Presidents of the schools I went to for 5th-12th grades and college are both now men named "Geoff." Odds of that aren't great.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Sorry, I was referring to the W&M president's prosaic dullness.

    ReplyDelete
  27. There's an ad below for the SAT. I'm not sure whether to take that as a compliment to G:TB, an insult, or to just remain confused as if I've had a heavy dose of going to small claims court to get a continuance so my contractor can finish my bathroom.

  28. celtics seem a little hungover, metaphorically.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm quite surprised we haven't heard from Mark yet given the halftime score.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yeah, and they've also fallen into the trap of playing Orlando's style. Not to worry, the Magic specialize in giving away double digit leads.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Rob Dibble just called Ryan Zimmerman "Magnum Z.I."

And in case you hadn't thrown one shoe at the tv to make the dibble stop, he repeated it. And chuckled heartily at his new creation.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Son of a bitch...he just said it again...

    ReplyDelete
  33. i need to resurrect my 'erudition of rob dibble' concept album/gtb post.

    ReplyDelete
  34. zorn is at caps game wearing red knee-high socks.

    ReplyDelete
  35. So, rbi walk for Zimmerman...and Dibble drops the fourth Magnum Z.I. Reference in last three minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  36. so they're really trying to play this thing in the bronx?

    ReplyDelete
  37. And Donnie Wahlberg is at the Celts game, looking, oddly enough, a bit like Ice T.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well, my Monday evening just got a bit longer...which game ends sooner, this Yanks/Sox game or the Lakers/Rockets game?

    ReplyDelete
  39. i don't think there's any chance they get this sox/yanks game in.

    ReplyDelete
  40. look at all those empty seats in the bronx. it's like nationals north.

    ReplyDelete
  41. steve phillips on pedroia: 'it's hard to have a long swing when you have short arms'. that's so dumb it's almost smart.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Wow. Ovechkin. Hat trick.

    ReplyDelete
  43. who gets the hats? free lid night at mitch snyder's joint?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Rob, does it sadden you to watch the corpse of David Ortiz trudge to the plate four times a night?

    ReplyDelete
  45. i've written extensively on this topic. the answer is yes. but not as much as that double just saddened you.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yeah, this game is over. Time to stop watching.

    ReplyDelete
  47. That was a nasty hook from Hughes.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Phil Hughes has joined David Lee in this group: Famous NYC athletes who struggle to grow Brandon Walsh-like sideburns.

    ReplyDelete
  49. It's so cool the Caps let Alfred Hitchcock coach them.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Shit...lots of action in front of net just made this next 30 seconds dicey for the Caps.

    ReplyDelete
  51. crosby gets his hat trick.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Nats are up 8-4 in the 7th...odds this game ends up 8-8 in the 9th?

    ReplyDelete
  53. a full-service butcher shop?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Did Rondo just airball that free throw?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Mark, you getting nervous yet?

    ReplyDelete
  56. I don't know what you're talking about. I expected much worse than this by now...

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yep, so did I when I typed that...fouls 4 and 5 there on Davis killed what I thought would be a little run to enter 4th.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I think the Magic are going to make Mark very upset over the next ten minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  59. that was quite a block by young Mr. Howard

    ReplyDelete
  60. Here they come...and Rondo is lucky as shit on that on that one play.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yeah, now I'm worried. But again, its all so damn predictable that its tough to get too bent out of shape. This is, quite often, what the Magic do.

    ReplyDelete
  62. ewww...Battier looks so gross!!!
