Anti-Gheorghe of the Week

I've got daughters. I want them to grow up believing that they can do just about anything, but I'd be a terrible parent if I encouraged them to do things where the most likely outcome by a long, long stretch is that they look like fools. Clueless, naive, desperate fools.

B.J. Wie, you, sir, are a dick.
Michelle Wie plans to play in PGA Tour event

Shortly after a disqualification on the LPGA Tour, Michelle Wie has decided to tee it up against the men — again.

Wie will play in next week's Legends Reno-Tahoe Open in Nevada, the first time she will compete on the PGA Tour this year, tournament organizers said.

It will be Wie's eighth time in a PGA Tour event, and she has yet to make a cut. Wie, who is from Honolulu, made money playing against the men on the Korean Tour in 2006 at the SK Telcom Open.

"It's not every day that a woman is given the opportunity to play on the greatest Tour in the world," Wie said in a statement. "This is a tremendous opportunity for me to learn from these great players and take those lessons into the future to becoming the best player I can be on any tour. This is another step in the process of making me a better player."

This is pretty un-Gheorghe too. From espn.com:

Burress, who has been campaigning for a new contract, told the Star-Ledger of Newark, N.J., that he will report to training camp on time when it begins Thursday.

"I'm going to be at camp. I'm going to get out and practice," Burress told The Star-Ledger. "I said that I may not have, but the smarter thing for me to do is to show up and show my teammates I'm ready to play football."

That doesn't however, mean he'll be a happy camper.

"It shouldn't have gotten to this point. It just shows me as a person how important I really am to them," Burress told the newspaper. "This thing's a two-way street. It's not a one-way. ... It just opens your eyes a little bit to the people you're walking around with. You look them in the face and they smile at you."

Someone needs to explain to NFL players what the concept of a "contract" is.

If they did that Geoff, we Jet fans would've had Kendall on our O-Line. Instead, we had a guy starting that got cut after the season. And we got to watch Kellen and Chad scramble like fairies for 16 weeks.

NFL players' shelf lives are so short that it's hard to blame them for looking for one more big check. Plax has one more shot at a $10-15 MM+ bonus. If the Giants won't C-T-C for him, he's smart to seek it somewhere else (as opposed to playing out his contract and never getting one more big one). Sounds like a dick move, but the value of his next (last?) signing bonus will drop significantly each year as he gets more wear and tear on his carcass. I don't blame him for walking that fine line.

But does "[i]t just show[ Plax] as a person how important [he] really [is] to" Giants management? That's a bit melodramatic, I think.

I just want to thank Rasheed Wallace for "C-T-C". That is all.

Straight cash homey.

I generally have a problem with athletes seeking new contracts in the middle of their current contracts but with the way that NFL teams are able to cut guys and not have to pay them another cent, I can't muster much anger. Hell, I'd do the same damn thing if i was in their position, considering the length of most NFL careers and the possibility that those careers could be over in a single play.

if you're famous and you make a sex tape, you want it to become public. that, or you're a very special kind of moron.

Money seems so trivial at a time like this. Moment of silence, please.

The AP reports that "Estelle Getty, the diminutive actress who spent 40 years struggling for success before landing a role of a lifetime in 1985 as the sarcastic octogenarian Sophia on TV's "The Golden Girls," has died. She was 84."

Pouring out some of my Tom Collins for her as we speak...

What if you're famous and you make a sex tape and you have small genitalia? Do you still want the sex tape to go public? What if you're famous for having public sex tapes (e.g., Jenna Jamison)?

What if you make a very small sex tape? Like a 30 second interlude on betamax?
