Weed, License Plates and LSD: This Week in Drug News

As I prepare for my impending move to the drug-friendly state of Colorado, I feel compelled to share this week's news in drugs. Let's dig in, shall we?

The State of Colorado recently held an auction on marijuana-themed license plates. Proceeds benefited the Colorado Disability Funding Committee. The auction ended, of course, on April 20. The results were as comical as they were predictable.

The top bid went to ISIT420, which went for $6,630. The next highest bid was TEGRIDY (Google it if your South Park knowledge is stale), which went for $4,930. Following this was BONG at $3,890, GREEN at $3,510 and STASH at $1,860.

The next auction will be held on April 20, 2022. Crossing my fingers I can win the 420 247 or QP KB auctions and put some sweet new plates on my Dodge Stratus

In other news, Justin Zhu seems like a guy who could roll with many of us current (and former) party animals. Justin was a co-founder and CEO of a marketing startup company called Iterable. Never heard of it? Me neither. But a lot of people have, apparently. This private company has a current market value of $2 billion. Pretty sweet, right. And Justin likes acid.

Apparently, Justin took acid before a company meeting in 2019. He said he was attempting to micro-dose to "improve his focus." Yeah, that's why I used to do it too. Listen, I get the theoretical concept of a micro-dose. I occasionally nibble on a bit of an indica edible before bed - maybe a third or a half of a 10 mg gummy. I sleep well and have odd dreams. Everybody wins. But Justin wasn't nibbling on a gummy. He was EATING ACID. AT WORK. This seems like all kinds of bad decision-making by the CEO. Clearly, he was either: i) so out of his gourd that folks figured out what happened, or ii) so cocky that he felt the need to share news of his drug adventures to his colleagues. Do your drugs, pull yourself together, and keep the deets to yourself, like any self-respecting degenerate.

The full story is here. But before you have a pity party for Mr. Zhu, remember that he is a co-founder of a $2 billion company and probably owns a big slug of equity. It is likely he never needs to work again. But maybe he should double down on his psychedelic legacy and push for psilocybin legalization in Colorado. That would be good. Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good.

A couple weeks ago I was able to visit with an former musical associate who is 20 years my senior. His mid 80s Toyota now has an LSD themed plate and he has an interesting indoor garden too ;)

I am already enjoying the new era of TR

Friends of mine had a garden in their garage a few years back and we all reaped the benefits. I miss that garden.

This is Mark- chiming in as Unknown from the work Mac. Draft thoughts:

- Big FU energy by Aaron Rodgers. The only thing he might be better at than playing QB is holding a grudge.

- Kyle Pitts is the best player in this draft. Full stop.

- I'm not sold on Jamarr Chase. So many highlights of him making contested catches. Not sure he has the size or game speed to be as dominant a WR as projected in the NFL.

- If Jaylen Waddle hadn't been injured last season he'd be the first WR off the board. The NFL loves speed like NBA scouts love size. Just look at where his less talented teammate, Henry Ruggs, went last year. Waddle is better, more elusive and more productive.

- I'll take Jaycee Horn over Patrick Surtain Jr in the matchup of highly rated CBs whose Dad's were Pro Bowlers. He's more physical and a better athlete. Surtain will be good too but Horn is a beast.

- The tales of Mac Jones' pocket presence have be greatly exaggerated. Not a lot of tough pockets for him last year. Jones had a hell of a season but it's nuts for him to go in the top 5.

A good friend of mine was a beta tester for FanDuel right before when they came into Virginia. (Our other friend’s sister works for the company.) He made everyone there happy and they loved him. And then they flew the two of them to Cleveland for the draft, and for an Indians game, and a Cavs game, and all this wine and dine stuff, and a seat at the WFT table tonight for the draft. If you see a guy wearing a Darrell Green jersey tonight, that’s my buddy. And my jersey.

Mark said...

That’s a hell of a perk.

Mark said...

Nice of Cleveland to provide the NFL Draft with typically shitty Cleveland weather.

So nice to watch the draft when my favorite team is drafting high, and frequently, AND is on the upswing. Unlike the year of the Darnold pick, if feels like Douglas is starting to build something. Killer has them trading up from 23 to 15 for a Guard. Screw that. Keep all those Round 1-3 picks and stack up. I know RBs are not respected in the draft these days, but Etienne or Najee would give us some competence at that position.

In related news - Gase made money on the recent sale of his $3 MM house. Sweet for him.

Killer is my nickname for Kiper.

Mark said...

I’d have some questions if I was Trevor’s Dad.

Mark said...

Old Bengals fan in an Olineman Jersey jamming to “Don’t Stop til You Get Enough” is my highlight of the draft so far.

TR said...

Kiper had Jets trading up to 15. They traded up to 14. Pretty good job, Killer.

Marls said...

Does that make him a Master Beta Tester?

TR said...

And he had them taking a G at 14. Melly Mel is en fuego.

My only hope for Kadarius Toney is that he’d go to a team with an innovative offensive coach or OC. Don’t think it quite worked out like I’d hoped.

Juan Carlos said...

Apparently, New Jersey has the best Pizza.

zman said...

Juan Carlos is purposely triggering our friends in Virginia.

I think the Giants were wise to trade down but I think they needed more O-line help than WR help since they signed Galloday. Gettleman has a genius track record though so ... oh wait.

rob said...

the best pizza i've ever had was in minneapolis. for what it's worth.

Another note on the Giants and Toney- he's best in the slot. Which is also where Golden Tate is best. And Sterling Shepard. And Evan Engram. I'm sure it'll all be fine. I mean Jason Garrett is running the offense and he's got a great track record of designing innovative off...oh wait.

Also, I'm a draft dork but I really do enjoy the Friday night rounds 2 & 3 setup. Here's hoping my second dose of the COVID vaccine this afternoon doesn't put me on my ass.

rob said...

my second waited until day 2 to impact me. i felt pretty achy yesterday. all good now. 11 days until i can start licking doorknobs. again.

TR said...

Giants cut Golden Tate a few weeks back.

TR said...

Research says folks are almost 100% vaccinated 14 days after shot 1. You should be good to lick knobs now. Again.

Or you can listen to the asshats at the CDC and still avoid outside gatherings after being fully vaccinated. They are such a joke, but they still somehow have their instructions followed by public institutions.

zman said...

The CDC is in a pickle. If they're too restrictive they piss people off. If they are insufficiently restrictive people die. That Goldilocks level of restriction is hard to find so they're erring on the overly restrictive side to avoid deaths.

TR said...

You’re right that they are erring.

zman said...

I think they said you can attend outdoor gatherings, but you still have to wear a mask. That doesn't seem too onerous to me, given that you can't tell if someone has been vaccinated just by looking at them. I still wear a mask to avoid confrontation, but I still get confronted by anti-mask people so you can't win either way. Now, if we had some sort of identification card, let's call it a passport for lack of a better term, to show that we are vaccinated so that we could do whatever the hell we want ... oh wait, that would infringe on our liberties.

rob said...

i'm just glad i don't have to show proof of my kids' immunization so they can go to school, because that would be tyr...oh.

Mark said...

There’s a wing nut private school down in Miami refusing to let their students or teachers be at school if they HAVE been vaccinated. Follow Billy Corben or Alfred Spellman on Twitter or go to the Miami Herald for the full story. You’ll be shocked to know the owners of said school are huge Trump/DeSantis supporters.

My wife got her second shot yesterday and it’s lightly kicking her ass today.

My bad on Golden Tate, TR. So you’re saying the Giants only have 4 receivers who are best on the slot? That’s fine. Totally reasonable roster construction by Gettleman.

Mark said...

Javonte Wiliams is one of my favorite players in this draft. Not sure the Broncos needed another RB but he’s a good

TR said...

The 69th pick should be called Mr. Relevant

Mark said...

Vaccine kicked my as last night. Chills/fever/nausea started in the middle of the night. No fun. Much better now.

Mark said...

Ravens getting Rashod Bateman and Tylan Wallace is huge. Not surprising since they seemingly always draft well.

Mark said...

And the Ravens got Shaun Wade. He was a borderline first round pick before last season. Dropped because he’s not a great outside CB. He’s fantastic in the slot though.

Also, I’d never heard of the WR from North Texas that the Bucs drafted. I’ve watched about 10 minutes of his highlights and read about him and now I’m in love with him.

lotta content here on slot talk: the blog.

did an adventure race this morning with two other old dudes. finished in 4:15. also finished bleeding from my lip (tree), cheek (thorn), and knees (various thorns and briars). loved it. would recommend.

Dave said...

you never needed to wear a mask outside, whatever you're doing. that was just silliness. there was also no mask-wearing inside the racquet club all winter. no cases. plenty of ventilation. that race sounds way less fun than my tennis match this morning-- indoors, no ticks, no poison ivy, no briars, no thorns.

four minutes and fifteen seconds? or -- god forbid-- four hours? and change?

Dave said...

wow mark, that's some story . . .

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/education/article250973204.html

Mark said...

Indeed it is, Dave. Miami is a uniquely fucked up place.

rob said...

four hours and change, dave. pain is temporary. glory lasts forever.

TR said...

Dave - you’re gonna get canceled if you don’t blindly follow the CDC’s preposterous recommendations!

The school where my wife teaches and both our boys went through grade 8 had it’s annual fundraiser this weekend. A drive through strawberry festival at the civic center. I begrudgingly agreed to do a volunteer shift, helping break down at the end of day today. I was solo, tasked with removing and storing banners that were zip tied to traffic barricades.

I did not wear a mask, but so many volunteers did, even outdoors, distant, and vaccinated. I didn’t feel shamed for not participating in the ‘virtue signaling’ , but people who give more of a fuck than I do might have. I’m seeing more outdoor masking than ever lately, and it makes no sense in most cases.
