I Saw a Rainbow

People seemed to enjoy our last memory lane musical fillerama, and we need to change the post at the top of the page, so here's another killer 80s alternative tune from a British Isles-based band.

to dave’s question in the previous thread, r is not who you think it is. that r retired from soccer a few years ago to focus on her competition cheer career. probably to get away from me as a coach.

I may have to post a similar coaching series about my U11 travel team. My team is really strong this year. We had a lot of turnover, w/ five new faces, but we lost all the dead weight from last year.

We played our neighboring town (Madison) today. Baseball has a courtesy “speed-up” rule, where you can pinch run for the catcher w/ 2 outs so he can get his gear on. We were up 10-3 on their field in the bottom of the 6th. There were 2 outs and the coach called timeout to pinch-run for his very slow catcher, who was on 2nd base. This makes no sense b/c it was their last licks and the catcher would not have to put gear back on (we don’t do extra innings). It was a bush league move, but I let it go b/c we were up 7 and they sucked.

New base runner comes in. He steals on the first pitch. My catcher throws a bullet to my son, who was playing 3rd. He puts the tag down. Game over. We win. We play that team again tmrw. And we have our hardest throwing kid starting. Can’t wait to pound on them for that.

wow. that coach is thinking way too hard about U11 baseball tactics. that's kind of an amazing loophole move . . . who would even worry about that?

Sounds like those kids from Madison are going to be black and blue later today.

Buzz City is a stupid nickname but I do like these Hornets uniforms. And the Hornets are pretty fucking fun too. Even without LaMelo, who’s pretty fucking fun all on his own.

If it makes you feel better, LaMelo will be back pretty fucking soon.

Six of the nine starting batters for the Yankees had batting averages of .220 or lower. Nice. Not really.

I was in Buzz City last night. Hazy IPAs all evening.

cashed a pretty large wager (for me) this morning on the carabao cup. had man city winning and tottenham under 0.5. so my bankroll is larger than it's ever been. looking forward to pissing it away.

My baseball team delivered today, giving Madison a 13-3 beatdown. My kid almost had a turf homer. He went the opposite way against a hard thrower, lining one down the RF line. But he was obstructed rounding 2B. It really slowed him down. He was awarded third. He asked if he could’ve scored. I lied and said no to avoid disappointing him. A home run on turf is not a true “over the fence” homer, but he would have been so bummed out about it. May have been his only shot.

only homer of my little league career was an inside-the-parker. lined a shot over the second-baseman's head into the gap, legged it out. you got free ice cream in our league if you hit a four-bagger, and i damn well made sure i got mine.
