Labor Day in the United States, as you know, is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. Ironically, or perhaps fittingly, most of us try to spend it performing as little actual labor as humanly possible.
In that spirit, here's a post that required almost no effort. I promise Clarence that I'll do better soon.
As Labor Day signifies the effective, if not actual, end of Summer, Sirius XMU released Indie Summer Top 15 yesterday. Don't know if I agree with their number one, though the band did release some terrific stuff this summer - I'd have gone with 'Ya Hey' - but, hey, here you go:
Let's hear your favorite songs of Summer 2013 in the comments. I loved Haim's stuff, and Chvrches, too. And I confess that Blurred Lines is a guilty pleasure. What else?

I passed out on my couch last night. The wife had to put me to bed. Then this morning my dog drank from the toilet. The toilet that was full of piss. Not a tremendous start to the fall in the Hughes house.
i just relit the pilot light on our water heater. feeling pretty manly. gonna pretend i wasn't at all scared of blowing up the house.
i assume geoff and his colleagues are working today, as they'd sooner celebrate the accomplishments of organized labor than wear white after labor day.
it's possible i butchered that last comment. still on a gas high.
Rob's last comment hasn't not made more sense than less of the other.
those of you familiar with the 9:30 club will be very saddened to learn of the passing last night of josh burdette. he was the huge, bald, bearded, tattooed, pierced dude who served as the bouncer/host/face of the club. a dc institution and a legendarily sweet guy. not sure what happened, though i assume there will be news forthcoming.
here's a bit more on josh burdette: http://consequenceofsound.net/2013/09/r-i-p-josh-burdette-930-club-manager/
you know what song doesn't belong on a Best Of summer list? that shit Imagine Dragons tune Radioactive.
it's also Ryan Zimmerman's current walk up music, and that's just dumb
diana nyad is two miles away from completing a swim from cuba to key west. that's extraordinarily badass. nobody in the history of the world has swum anywhere near as far as that. she also tried and failed this same swim three times in the last three years. it's a pretty amazing thing.
111 miles. Beastmode.
Brady Quinn a Jet. That's a whole lot of handsome there at the qb position.
nyad's last mile or so televised here:

All that without a shark cage too. Bad. Ass.
I'd be enjoying Key West quite a bit tonight if I was her.
yeah, she made it. jesus, that's incredible.
if any member of the GTB community has C.J. Spiller on their fantasy roster, please email me a screencap
These wishy-washy losers on financial planning commercials shown during golf events don't deserve to retire. Grow some sack. Yeah, our shit's in the right funds. We're gonna fucking retire when we're old enough to retire. Let's end this terrible conversation, crack some beers get our asses over to a fucking Viagara commercial.
The Teej got some Grantland love for his #pantslessgriffins hash tag. Nice work.
grantland now not even trying to hide the fact that they're stealing from gtb.
fellaini goes to man u. booooooo.
Federer decided to play a lot of mishits tonight.
I just taught zson how to make it rain. Am I a bad dad? Or does this make me a good one?
The best one. Somebody needs to get Zman a "World's Greatest Dad" coffee mug.
Warren Sapp getting love from ... Cliff Drysdale?!?
Just caught the Earl Campbell documentary on NBC Sports. He's the coolest cat going, and just as much fun to watch in small segments of old footage as he was on live TV back when.
Love this. Good to see their new album isn't a disappointment. Great video as well, if you like this too please fly over to my page and check out my new single She's French, hope you enjoy it! Amanda Vanderpool
