Slackers

This morning I woke up and ran a quick 3.5 miles before breakfast. Felt pretty good about myself. I'll run a few 10k races this summer in preparation for the Army 10-miler in October and the Richmond Half-Marathon in November. And I'll feel pretty good about myself.

Over the course of 11 months, Charlie Wittmack attempted to swim the English Channel, hop on a bike and ride across Europe and Asia, where he planned to summit Everest. He lost toenails, experienced exhilarating highs and moments of sublime comedy. Other times, he came close to death. In the end, he learned a bit about being a father, a husband, and a son. And I think he felt pretty good about himself.

ESPN's Wayne Drehs produced an excellent multi-media piece on Wittmack. It's available here. Check it out while you sit on your couch this weekend.

wittmack's peregrinations pale in comparison to the effort exerted in my fencing project.

good article...i read about this guy a year or so ago. nutty. now watch - 10 years from now this will be a race with a handful competing.

rode a bit last year with a girl in town who competed in the '10 ultraman canada....not as nutty as charlie's little tryst but pretty crazy. (kellie smirnoff is her name)

okay - just saw the other piece. unfortunately not all of the videos are still available but get the gist. the feat speaks for itself. doing it alone, completely alone on that bike ride doesn't. a lot, well maybe not a lot but more than you think, have what it takes physically to do that. mentally though...he's not human.

TR would do that ride naked in a thunderstorm on a beachcruiser with a soggy smoke in his mouth. this guy is a wimp.

like i said...mentally he is not human

You're in a hotel room without ESPN? Where the fuck are you?

In my brother's brief stint at Coastal Carolina he played a few rounds with Dustin Johnson. Says he's a good guy. I'm pulling for him, screw the Euros.

I can't imagine Geoff likes Watson's current shirt/tie combo.

a "brief stint" at coastal carolina? sounds like there's a story in there.
