State Fairs back? STATE FAIRS BACK
This, of course, is a deep fried, thinly veiled excuse for me to post probably my greatest work on this here website: my trip to the Indiana State Fair 12 years ago. Come, relive the journey with me.
Dedicated to the premise that life would be better if we all took ourselves a little less seriously.

I went to the Minnesota State Fair once. That experience was outdone days later by the Minneapolis Renaissance Festival. I could write more about my experiences, but I would just sound mean.
JC jousting...
Shredding on a lute, chomping on a turkey leg.
My mother took me to a Renaissance fair once when I was maybe 5 or 6. We got a turkey leg which came with a side of salmonella. Our house only had one toilet so we took turns diarrheaing. At one point I had to use the bathtub whilst she was on the bowl. That's my Renn fair memory!
folks, I hope you have received the amazing text from Mark this afternoon...
Zman just showed us some childhood scars. Was that the last turkey leg you ate?
Those are the least of my childhood scars. My life is a series of demoralizing events. I eat turkey leg every Thanksgiving.
Leroy the mini goat.
i, too, have been to the minnesota state fair. it’s the second largest state fair in the country. it’s amazing. the family of a colleague of mine has owned the primary french fry concession at the fair for decades. he takes two weeks of vacation every year to run the operation. they gross $1m every year selling fries and soda. pretty sweet gig.
in fact, i wrote about it!

Fries and soda have fairly hefty margins, I'd imagine.
had korean barbecue for dinner and then played men's league soccer about two hours later. independently, those are pleasurable things. together, not a tremendous choice.
