zPorn Redux: WWzD Meets Mog EV3

It's time for our annual Morgan post. Last March rob blogged Mogs, specifically the Aero 8. I pronounced my love for the Morgan 3-wheeler in the comments of that post. Turns out I'm not alone.

I've spend hours building my own 3-wheeler here. But it's wildly impractical. It has no roof, windows or windshield ferchristsake. So I'm looking for something more usable on a daily basis. My commute is so short that I've considered buying an electric car, but Teslae are hideously expensive and most other EV's look like a clown's shoe. Seriously:

I wouldn't drive one of those if you paid me so I certainly wouldn't pay to drive one. Remarkably, Morgan, the oldest of old-school car manufacturers, decided to get in the EV game. They turned the 3-wheeler into an EV, called it the EV3, and it's so awesomely zpornographic that Justice Stewart would immediately know how to classify this video if he could see it.

It weighs about 1100 pounds, has a 150 mile range, carbon fiber and aluminum bodywork, and aside from the fact that it requires no petrol it's just as impractical as the V-twin version. But that tonneau though! According to Linda at Morgan Motors of New England, the EV3 will be available in the US sometime next year. She added "We are currently taking names for a wait list." Various sources state that the base price will be around $36,000. God help me if she follows up with an email dangling photos of one in BRG ...

They should make a law that you have to wear old school aviator goggles and a scarf while driving one.

NYC already approaching shit-show levels for the parade. Yippee.

rob said...

$36k? i feel like you're obligated to buy one at that price.

mogblog!

It's not clear to me whether § 30D of the IRS code applies, but if so you get a $7500 tax credit for an EV3.

JJ has been really good as a guest on both Simmons and Zach Lowe's podcast. I actually really like Redick. He's worked his ass off to turn himself into a very good NBA player. Much better than most anyone anticipated, IMO.

Plus he has a full tattoo sleeve and lives in Austin in the offseason. He can't be all bad.

"Working from home" (emails and little else) for the rest of the day. Off tomorrow. My March Madness vacation streak lives another year.

i am giggling imagining zman in aviator goggles and a scarf, driving that little three wheeled machine. it's right out of an evelyn waugh novel. could be the greatest entrance to an OBFT ever . . .

The locals appear to have started early here at Max's Taphouse in Fells Point. Holy schnikes.

I just landed in Raleigh for work. No games on my schedule. Really poor planning on my part.

Anybody have a recommendation for a good, relatively simple SLR camera? We are shopping for something new. I don't want to spend a million dollars, and I have limited technical capabilities. Whatcha got for me, folks?

we have a canon eos rebel t3. used it on our cross country trip 2 years ago and my wife took amazing pictures with it. i've even taken a couple of decent shots, i'm really bad with a camera.

I went to grad school with the head coach of UT-Chatanooga. He was the manager for the UF basketball team at the time and worked his way to become a member of Billy Donovan's staff. He's a first heard head coach at UT-C. He's a year younger than me. Which means he's younger than any member of the G:TB mafia. Just in case you didn't feel bad enough about yourself today.

yale's a plucky underdog feel good story, huh?

submarine off the coast! submarine at periscope depth! also nearby is a battleship. what the?!!!

And in the parking lot below, a very late walk-of-shame being performed by 2 lassies, early to mid-30's. one w/green dress and matching chuck taylor's, shamrock tattoos, the whole bit. the other with jorts and a white tanktop? She missed the memo but obviously not the tomfoolery that comes with March 17th! Way to go girls!

2 more WOS'rs...this time a guy and girl. Girl in tight green top, she is well endowed. They are trying to get into the next door bar, The Ritz. The Ritz doesn't open 'til 4'ish, something all locals know. I'm thinking they left a cell phone or credit card there.

Submarine & battleship still nearby.

Next update at 11.

There were a few bimbos teetering around town by mid-afternoon yesterday. Somehow, beads and green leis have become part of the slut uniforms, at least among the NJ/Long Island/Yonkers trash that invaded NYC.

I had one of my all-time best day-drinking times at the 2002 St. Pat's parade, which was a massive "blow off steam" event for a city that desparately needed a respite from 9/11. I brought a small camera with me. I have photos of: a sexy bartender standing on the bar and spraying the crowd with water, a fireman (who I didn't know) showing me his new World Trade Center tattoo, and two girls making out at a bar. It was fun to be 27.

The thought of being in one of those awful Irish midtown pubs now is incomprehensible.

zman said...

You don't know an Irish pub shitshow until you've endured a St. Patrick's day near Faneuil Hall.

Shortly after zson was home from the hospital (following his birth, not one of his myriad injuries) zwoman sent me out to get Epsom salts, a squeeze bottle for water, maxipads and other related sundries to soothe her aching gash. As I stepped out of the Walgreen's and onto 2nd Ave., four or five men in their early 20's staggered towards me, laughing and smoking cigarettes. One of them stopped, bent over, and puked on the sidewalk. I shook of my baby-addled malaise and realized it was St. Patrick's day. I then realized how far away I was from the days of openly puking on the streets--instead I was buying feminine napkins. Feeling old, I returned to my suddenly-too-crowded apartment.

Danimal said...

A top 2 St. Pat's Day was spent in Chicago w/your fellow alumni. A Sat St. Pat's - always a bonus, the NCAA's, and the kicker was a certain vegetable found its way into the mix, theoretically.
I had hair back then. For much of the day I had one of those Dr. Seuss type hats but of course green and white. Once evening hit it was time to ditch it. I did so only after deciding I was going to head down the road to find myself a baseball hat at a store that I was betting was open. I put the Dr. Seuss hat in a bar trashcan as I left the premises, walked down the street and attempted to walk into the sporting goods store that I thought was open. It was not. My hair at this point was wet w/sweat and completely matted down - similar to C Thomas Howell's in the Outsiders but greasier and darker. Note that I had borderline blonde hair at the time. I was young and single and in scoring mode. I had no chance to begin with, and much less with that do. I was horrified. I walked back to the bar and dug the hat out of the trash. Wore if for another 6 hours or so.

Yep, we're all old.

I have no good St. Pats stories at all. Though one year working as bartender in the 'burg I made something like $500-600 in that single shift on the day just by slinging green beer. In the spirit of hoops, I write to say my oldest son went 14 for 16 games yesterday, besting the rest of the family brackets. As well we are paying attention to division iii final four tonight because I work at CNU, and the CNU Captains Men are in it, and the coach and his family attend the church that my husband serves. They are very cool folks. They are 31-1 this year and counting!

Clarence said...

My 1998 story (The St. Patrick's Day Massacre) is not one I want in print, sadly.

Donna said...

How many brackets will be busted if Michigan St. loses?!!

zman said...

So Michigan State isn't going to win it all?

TR said...

Per Donna's comments - um, mine.

Jay Glazer is a tremendous podcast guest on Simmons' podcast. You all need to listen to it. Very entertaining.
