Thin Lizzy Tuesday

These guys are fun. I first got to know Whiskey in the Jar through Metallica, whose cover can be found here.

Enjoy the two-fer-Tuesday Thin Lizzy presentation while you chow your quesalupa at your cubicle and ponder the seismic shifts we're seeing in the Western Conference.

PE getting some airtime on OJ! Tremendous.

And Queen earlier was great as well.

Tonight is Schwimmer's opus. I always thought it was when he starred in Breast Men, but it was tonight.

RIP Phife Dawg.

Great music selections on OJ last night. They even threw in Natural One during Marcia Clark's freakout. Strong choices.

Schwimmer absolutely brought the wood. A shame many of his dramatic moments have been opposite Selma Blair and Malcolm Jamal Warner, who might each be made of wood.

It seems like they are making Cochran into a caricature.

I enjoyed Mayhugh's "making Cochrane into a caricature" joke. Jackie Chiles lives.

The New York Giants have spent $106.3 million in guaranteed money during free agency thus far.

"The Bills have spent just $80,000 in guaranteed money since free agency began March 9, a product of two factors: their ability to re-sign guard Richie Incognito and offensive tackle Cordy Glenn prior to the official start of free agency, and their lack of cap space resulting from those moves. The Bills have signed just two free agents -- tight end Jim Dray and safety Robert Blanton -- and both deals have been for the veteran minimum."

Whaddya complaining about, Zman? You have BOTH Ryan brothers. What else do you want? Enjoy your five win season this fall.

Phife's death bums me out. We'll never get another ATCQ album.

Mark said...

I haven't been on the internets all day so I'm just learning about Phife. Fuck. That really bums me out.

After explaining that it's the Senate's job to provide advice about and consent to the President regarding Supreme Court picks, Orrin Hatch concludes that the Senate can best do this job by withholding advice about and consent to the President regarding his latest Supreme Court pick. All while perched firmly on his high horse. And I bet he wonders why his party's base hates his party's establishment.

What's ARod's 2017 farewell tour gonna look like?

A decidedly unJeter experience. Maybe like Lenny Randle's 1982 campaign or Limp Bizkit's "Loosening the Bible Belt" adieu across the south.

Made the debut trip to "The Villages" today to visit an aunt and uncle. I dig it. There. I said it. It exceeded my expectations by a large margin.

TR said...

Pour some out for Joe Garagiola. I have fond memories of he and Vin Scully doing baseball on Saturdays for NBC during the 80's.

mr kq said...

Excluding your aunt and uncle of course, aren't they all swingers in The Villages?

Totally downer on Phife. One of the few hip-hop groups I listened to all their albums. It's been good to revisit ATCQ today but definitely in stark contrast to the new Bob Mould album, which is loud and very Husker Du'esque, that I have had on repeat for the past several days.

Music, cure for the pain.

So I just watched an episode of a bizarre cooking show called Extra Virgin Americana, starring Debi Mazar (annoying woman from Entourage) and her foreign husband. They go to cool places and he cooks bad-ass meals. Weird, but makes me want to eat these things:

I've seen a bunch of obituaries asserting that Phife was not an "official member" of ATCQ (whatever that means) until The Low End Theory and I think that's just plain wrong. If you actually listen to People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, the end of Push It Along has an introduction to the group narrated by Jarobi in which Phife is described as Jarobi's "right hand man." He is not described as "a guy who drops a bunch of verses on this album randomly and is not an official member of our collective." Not sure why I feel the need to make that point but it irks me.

Since we're sharing ATCQ stories, I'll reiterate the story of the time I went for PT for the plantar fasciitis I had in my right heel 3-4 years ago. As my heel was being rubbed down in the big, open room, I saw a tall dude in leather pants getting some hip stretching done to him, while he was on his phone. WHILE HE WAS WEARING LEATHER PANTS. It was Q-Tip. Big dude in person. Unlike me, he wasn't in a "I put on sweatpants for PT" mood. He was Q-Tip, fer fuck's sake.

There was an embarrassing moment about ten minutes later, when a young African assistant at the PT place turned on ATCQ and then yelled to Q-Tip in a "look what I just did for you" kinda way. Q-Tip was unphased. I was third-person embarrassed b/c the young kid working there talked a lot like Eddie in Coming to America.

When I was a senior in high school in lily-white central NJ, "rap" was just starting to make a dent in pop culture. At my senior prom, the DJ did a Jump Around -> Jump (by Kris Kross) -> Scenario medley that got all us white boys moving on the dance floor, mostly to the chagrin of our dates.

zman said...

It all comes back to Scenario and The Low End Theory.

Squeaky, I'm pretty sure that is the one and only instance of "Du'esque" ever being typed at G:TB.

Clarence said...

And Zman, I figured you would link us to this.

zman said...

Clarence, I was hoping someone else would connect the dots. Thank you.

zman said...

But not Dü'esque? The umlaut is key.

Squeaky said...

I was too lazy to include the umlaut.

Squeaky said...

Pour some out for the White Shadow.

I believe Ken Howard was from Marls' neck of the nape.

He is succeeded as SAG-AFTRA president by Gabrielle Carteris, whom Rob adored almost as much as he loved Emily Valentine.

TR said...

Gabrielle is 55 y/o. And probably loaded with free time these days.

Enjoying Another One from Maine Beer Co on Topsail Beach. Or as the locals say, Topsullll. Cheers.

Squeaky said...

Nice, Mr KQ. I've got a couple Another One's and some Lunch in the fridge. Maine Beer Co. has some good stuff.

mr kq said...

I think Maine has moved into my 1 seed and I haven't even had dinner, have you?

Squeaky said...

I have not. They are releasing some this Saturday but if you are not in line before 4AM you typically don't get any. But you should try to get a hold of some Treehouse, Hill Farmstead or Trillium. They are the best in MA right now.
