The Capper

When the story of G:TB is written (GTB:TS), this week won't make any of the 'Best Of' lists. Cracker factories, man, they really aren't conducive to high-level content production.

But the people want content, friends, and content we'll give them. As you head into your weekend, here's a terrific new listen from Bon Iver's Justin Vernon and friends. Recording as The Shouting Matches, Vernon ditches his falsetto for a bluesy growl on a record entitled Grownass Man that NPR Music describes as 'agreeably ramshackle'. I've been digging it all week - listen to it here, and enjoy the videos below.

the bear sounds a bit like random idiots circa 1990.

we were disagreeably ramshackle, for the most part

Tyran Mathieu told NFL GMs that he failed so many drug tests at LSU that he lost count. Said it was more than 10. Geaux Tigers!

Does the average LSU football player know how to count above 10?

Mark said...

Yes, but not much higher I'm guessing.

One of the doctor's offices I call on is next door to a cupcake shop that won Cupcake Wars. I stopped in to said cupcake shop this afternoon. That was probably a bad decision for my long term health.

"The Bear" sounds like Ween circa 1990 as well. Greasetruck's song of the same name is 1000% more listenable.

Conch chowder, blackened grouper, seared ahi, macadamia-crusted mahi mahi, seafood gumbo, sauteed shrimp, raw oysters and fried catfish. I am eating the hell out of the Gulf Coast's marine life.

Sanibel and Captiva are great family vacation spots for you families that like the beach. Fly to Fort Myers or Naples and it's a short drive. Strong white.

And a random music rec - High School Lover by Cayucas. Know nothing about it other than it was very enjoyable on vacation when it came on while we were cruising with the top down.

Squeaky, Rob and Zman have probably been into them for a year, but they're new to me. Spend a buck and check out the tune.

It's a really underrated little spot, TR. so laid back and quiet.

cayucas is dope, tr. i especially like that they have a song named 'cayucas'. ballsy.

We are having such a good time that I may have to refrain from FL jokes for a while.

And it's Spring Break for Hotlanta schools. Lots of moms with enhanced chassies down here. Nothing wrong with that.

TR, never heard of them. So went over to Spotify and listened to the three tracks they have.

My take, not bad but sound like a washed out/too much reverbed version of early Vampire Weekend.

Of course, that could be due to all the Chelsea Light Moving I've been listening to lately. They would be good for an '(indie) Metal Up Your Ass Friday' segment. Thurston Moore is sounding awesome these days.

Any band that writes a song about William S. Burroughs is worth a listen.

The last time I visited Sanibel I spent much of the time listening to a recently released album called "Licensed to Ill." It was pretty good. And I remember it being a great FL spot.

Mark said...

I endorse all things William S. Burroughs.

Not an enormous Kobe Bryant fan but it seems unjust for the amazing season he's had at his age to end with a torn Achilles.
