Special Columbus Day Ghoogles

If I'm gonna be stuck at work, bored bitter and ridiculously sore from 54 holes of golf in 48 hours, I might as well throw something up here...enjoy the most recent internet searches that led folks to G:TB.

That Kilmer poster really got my wheels spinning, as I've never heard of it before. It is worth checking out on IMDB, just for the ridiculous cast, which aside form Kilmer includes Marg "Species" Helgenberger and Wilder "Handy Manny" Valderama.

Hi Mayhugh! Awfully quiet in here...

d-train said...

case of the mondays. office doubling in size today...kind of sucks. will have to become better at looking productive.

since val kilmer's presence at last year's apple blossom, i think you can count him showing up in some higher profile movies.

no bills commentary yesterday...somewhat surprised, and disappointed.

T.J. said...

So you're "d-train" again? What happened to "danimal"?

T.J. said...

The ice planet of Hoth will make you do bad things:

Star Wars" actress Carrie Fisher admitted Monday to taking cocaine on the set of "The Empire Strikes Back", saying she didn't even like the drug but was intent on getting high.

mayhugh said...

Hi TEEJ! I came to work at 5:30 this morning, hoping to get off early and celebrate Columbus the way he would have wanted.

D-Train, I would think that if the office is doubling in size you would have less work to produce. Thus, it may be harder to look productive.

I'm still giddy about the Skins yesterday - that was an absolute theft.

meant to go w/ danimal...want to get rid of old username/acct...haven't gotten around to it...who's the gtb secretary

zman said...

Sorry to disappoint re: Bills, but I was busy ploughing through a bag of work-related dicks yesterday through to today's AM hours. I'm now turning to a steaming plate of shitburgers.

TR said...

Z-Man: You only disappoint us with the Bills when you post about them.

Mark said...

I've got Columbus day off. Pretty, pretty, pretty nice.

zman said...

Get used to disappointment. More Bills whining to follow.

T.J. said...

Panthers are worse than the Bills. And zman (or Work Jerry) there is no argument you can state that can sway me.

TR said...

The putridity of the Bills' run defense may cast a pall on your thesis, The Teej.

Posted without comment:

CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. (AP) - A 75-year-old gas station employee used a broomstick to fight off a robber at Cave Junction.

Dan McLeod told The Oregonian he thought it was a joke when a masked man walked in early Wednesday and demanded cash. When the robber threatened to kill him, McLeod said he was scared. But when the robber pulled out his weapon - a small wrench, McLeod thought he could take him.
He grabbed a broomstick and hit the man several times, backing him out of the station.

Fellow employee Ray Wood said McLeod is an old-timer but says he's "pretty salty."

T.J. said...

TR, doesn't matter how bad the Bills run defense is...the Panthers complete ineptitude on offense makes them far worse than the Bills.

zman said...

I don't want to shoot my load before my upcoming big rant but ... you wanna talk about ineptitude on offense? C.J. Spiller, 9th overall pick in this year's draft, has 19 attempts and 13 receptions through 5 games. And 17 kick returns. What's the point of drafting a running back #9 overall if you're only going to give him 6.4 offensive touches (hee-hee) per game and have him return kicks?

T.J. said...

I anxiously await your hatchet job on your team...but I'm just telling you, the 2010-11 Carolina Panthers are worse than the 2010-11 Buffalo Bills.

TR said...

So what happens when Ohio State and Michigan State both run the table this year? And how is Bama ranked higher than both South Carolina and undefeated LSU?

I usually like to forget how dumb college football can be until November, but it's sinking in already this season.

T.J. said...

Give it time TR. No need to worry about both MSA and OSU going undefeated - plenty of room for both to stumble.

And let the SEC season play out - we're not done with surprises by a longshot.

Let's instead focus on CC, Pettitte and Hughes keeping up the pace in the ALCS.

T.J. said...

MSA = MSU.

Marls said...

That should be Marg "China Beach" Helgenberger.

zman said...

Tell 'em Large Marg Helgenberger sent ya.

half the coll football season is over with. depressing.

msu has a very good shot at getting through unscathed - iowa is the only real team left on schedule. also play penn state & minn...; osu has wisconsin, iowa and michigan...i gotta think they'll lose one of those.

Squeaker, little game to play in Toronto: try to find some trash on the street. Betcha can't.

Also look for the Michael "The Pinball" Clemons Museum and pay tribute to a stellar fellow alum.

Have you seen my girl Michelle Beadle today?

Squeaky said...

Already had a Steam Whistle on the plane. Maybe have time to checkout a museum this evening. Or drink a few beers. Or see if the Leafs are in town.

Clarence said...

Please ask the locals why it's "Maple Leafs" and not "Maple Leaves" for me.

Squeaky said...

Igor, I'll ask aboot it.

Squeaky said...

Sitting in a restaurant bar. Waitstaff keeps saying she was a great cocktailer and a great closer. Find it sort of funny. Free Leffe which is nice.

Marls said...

Anybody else have the feeling that the Jets are going to get run tonight?

I think Donggate may actually focus the old coot back on football.

Marls said...

From the intertubes:

"The Toronto Maple Leafs are not named for the leaf of the maple tree. They are named for the symbol of Canada, known as the Maple Leaf, and which as a symbol is a singular and very proper noun.

A row of Canadian flags are not maple leaves, they are multiple incarnations of The Maple Leaf. Hence, Maple Leafs.

So forget about the tree. It’s not about the [goddamned] tree."

There you go Igor, so why don't you make you make like a tree and get out of here.

Clarence said...

Thanks, Marls. Thanks for nothin'.

That's about as bullshit an explanation as I can conjure for the Leafs' moniker. No offense to the Canadians, but get down off your high horse, mounties, and come join the rest of us in adhering to the rules of grammar without some high fallutin' holier-than-thou exception.

The eagle is the symbol of America, and also very singular in its image, but it ain't the Philadelphia Eagle that I watched last night, it's the Eagles.

Squeaky said...

Guys, Guys calm down. The bartender, who was a Winnipeg cheerleader for two months, told me the real reason was Canadians can't spell.

Go Labatts Blue!

mayhugh said...

Get the damn game underway already.

Clarence said...

I picked up a rental car this evening, got in, and turned it on. The radio was cranked to a station playing "Friends" by Whodini. I like this car already.

Marls said...

Is the Giants' Brian Wilson the same as the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson? That beard is fucking insane.

Marls said...

The Melkman does not deliver.

Marls said...

Suck it Bobby Cox.

Marls said...

What are the chances that Brett's tendonitis, limp arm routine means the end of his season and he ends another season with a game ending interception.

mayhugh said...

I think Brett will wait a couple more weeks before packing it in, but agree he will pack it in. There are many things going on - the poor W-L record, the dong texts, that provide a bevy of excuses, but I don't think any of those are quite ripe enough yet.

If he gets wind that he'll be suspended, I suspect he'll retire on the spot.

TR said...

First, Dern-Harper. Now, Cox-Arquette. What a sad start to the week.
