I've long been a fan of Sleigh Bells' hyperpop sound, a sometimes manic, always up-tempo slamdance of bubblegum and metal. Their sound obscures frequently dark emotions - witness 2010's 'Rill Rill' and its nod to kids snorting coke in the bathroom.
The duo released a new single recently, and it doesn't stray far from the formula. The duality of the chorus is a hint: "I feel like dynamite/I feel like dying tonight". And the hammer falls in the first part of the second verse, when Alexis Krauss sings "Crush my fate, I'm losing breath/Send me an angel...of death".
Here's the video for the first single from the band's new record, called 'Locust Laced'. It's very Sleigh Bells - catchy as hell, with dark corners you don't really wanna get stuck in for too long.
I feel like I should like Sleigh Bells but I can't get into more than a few songs. Maybe I'm just not cool enough.
ReplyDeletethat seems likely.
ReplyDeletealso, things are going swimmingly for urban meyer. does he last the season, danimal?
While the lap dance video is certainly not a good look. That's more of an issue on the home front than in his locker room. The bigger issue is that he chose to not fly home with the team and hang out in Ohio for a few days. You're the coach of an 0-4 team and instead of using the extra days after a Thursday night game to work with your coaching staff you decide to hang out with family and friends in Ohio and go out for drinks. Not great, Bob.
ReplyDeleteHe’s recruiting for the Trojans, guys. Cut him some slack.
ReplyDeleteThis was the most obvious coaching failure ever. I expect him to step away from the Jags for the ol’ reliable “heart issues” excuse, before having a pile of donor money thrown at his feet.
And I want to say that I am already dreading Yanks-Sox. The games are so stressful and so long and drawn out that it crushes me to watch. My saving grace is that I have a work happy hour function. I will DVR it and start it an hour late. Nice to have the 610 PM local start time. You know this game is going at least 3.5 hours.
ReplyDeleteI was gonna ask for a Yanks-Sox GTB preview… come on, fellas
ReplyDeletetoday is my wife's birthday, so i'll spend at least the first few innings enjoying dinner with her and my daughter. i fully expect to return home to a one-sided affair to reduce the stress. crystal ball doesn't yet tell me which team will be up.
ReplyDeleteRob is approximately 1000x more self aware than Urban. Glad to hear you aren't subjecting your wife to watching the game with you, OR watching internet video of you trying to shock someone through denim.
ReplyDeleteWhat Mark said. Not to mention, wearing an OSU pullover. He's a turd. (Not bc of the wardrobe choice, ftr)
ReplyDeleteHe could be gone by this time next week.
What a fucking disingenuine turd.
ReplyDeleteI laugh when I read "Meyer seen touching a woman's backside"....he was, as Rootsy denotes, not fondling her backside.
forgot how much fun it was to watch baseball while trying not to puke from nerves.
ReplyDeleteIn Urb’s defense- denim these days is quite stretchy, and we don’t know everyone’s feelings about it. I mean, I’ve heard of someone being into Marls’ toes, so anything is possible.
ReplyDeleteTrue story
ReplyDeleteWhat about Marls' toe-thumbs?
ReplyDeleteAnd fuck Gerrit Cole. And Aaron Boone. And Aroldis Chapman. And Gary Sanchez. And Joey Gallo. And, especially, Phil Nevin.
ReplyDeleteNo way the Yanks were going to beat the Rays, so this is probably all for the best for me.
Also a true story
ReplyDeletehi, tr!
ReplyDeleteThe Red Sox/Patriots coterie is pretty insufferable. It is only my mutual distain for Yankees that allows me root for the Sox these days.
ReplyDeleteThere was once a time in my life where tonight's Cardinals-Dodgers game would have me nervous already. That time has long since passed. I'll have it on the second TV tonight to keep up and be able to commiserate with my old man about it tomorrow but that's about the extent of my investment.
ReplyDeleteThe Mets/WFT/Wiz/Tribe wagon I drive has many seats still available. Like all of them.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for the Caps, though I watch hockey less and they seem to be fading to the middle of the pack.
And I’m rooting for Mark’s Cards. Not always the case, but it’s LA.
ReplyDeleteI’ll root for the Cards in solidarity with Rob’s dislike of Randy Newman.
ReplyDeleteGoing to get tattooed today for the first time in over a year and a half. It's the longest I've gone between sessions since I was 20.
