Wanna See Some Shit?

Event ticket prices have been on the rise for some time. Not even just in that I'm-a-cranky-old-man-who-paid-$12-to-see-The-Ramones way. I've shelled out over $100-a-pop more than 20 times so see bands or sporting events now.

I will again this weekend at OSU-PSU, and you can't say it's not worth it. The Ireland-England Six Nations match cost us hundreds each.  More expensive than the international plane flight.

Springsteen on Broadway.  So glad my dad picked that one up.  Jesus.

The friggin' Cult... $60 in Jersey in 2 weeks, but it's a mini-Summit, so Gheorghe is picking it up.

That's life in a good economy. We could dedicate a whole post to what costs what these days, but the scope of this one is a simple parallel that makes me chuckle, marvel, grumble, shake my head, think about what could have been, shrug my shoulders, and chuckle again.

A couple of games in the National Football League this weekend... well, they're a same planet/different worlds situation.

Click on the images and look at the prices -- both of the lowest priced seats (at left), and the highlighted section.  Lordy.

My wife almost bit on tix a friend in town offered up for Giants-Dolphins in December. It was $80/set for upper level. I told her we could wait until a day before, check the forecast, and then probably be able to buy lower level seats for well below that. Giants and Jets discounts are huge these days. But the catch is that you have to watch the Giants or Jets.

In other news that is far less pleasant, I found out that a dad in town died after passing out in our local CVS on Monday night. Zman and I are probably in there 1-2 times per week.

He went to the minute clinic b/c he thought he had an asthma-related issue. Passed out in an aisle and died in the hospital the next day. The guy had a history of substance abuse that may have contributed to his overall health, but it's still a gut punch. He has two kids. They are 6th grade and 4th grade, just like my two.

I heard the news after pulling the trigger on a Spring Break vacation that we waffled on b/c of cost. I didn't feel so bad about booking the vacation after hearing that news.

Jim Jordan notes that a majority of Ukrainian politicians wanted Hillary Clinton to win in 2016 in support of a nefarious conspiracy theory. Everyone forgets that a majority of American voters wanted Hillary Clinton to win.

Sorry about the dad in your town, TR. Sometimes life really doles out tragedy! Here's some more "less pleasant news" - the high school my boys attend has had a threat ...on instagram two days ago, a student from Warwick High (where they go) was live-streaming (didn't know you could do that on that app), and while she was, someone commented that they were going to come to the school on Thursday (tomorrow!) and shoot it up. So, the comment was reported to the school and the local police and they're taking it seriously. Major police presence the next day, sweeping for weapons, investigating where the post came from, etc etc. OY!! The principal made phone call to all families explaining situation and saying they're taking steps, etc. But the boys have told us lots of folks aren't going to school tomorrow. Of course they're trying to figure out if it was another student, someone else, etc.
We're sending our kids. Are we stupid?
What else are you going to do? Keep them out forever? Not ever go anywhere? In America, this can happen anywhere - school, theater, mall, grocery, neighborhood, church, synagogue, park...I am right, right? I hate this. We all do. So, y'all tell me what you'd do. But at this point, we're going to go on living.

Back to the post - Those ticket prices are insane. And wildly low. Crazy!

Donna, you're right, it can happen anywhere.
And I agree, you have to live your life.
Sending you and your kids good vibes for tomorrow.

None of us know when it will be our time, so don't waste time on stupid things or stupid people

Mavs are up 74-38 on the Warriors at half. That would be singularly remarkable if Luka Doncic did have 33 of that 74 (on 10-11 shooting!) already.

File this under "no one gives a fuck about your fantasy team", but because of some deft roster construction, I am starting both Sam Darnold and Jets TE Ryan Griffin in a must-win game this weekend.

Good times.

145 hp. Isn’t that low?

I sat in KITT at Universal Studios California in 1984. It talked to me. Yeah, that’s right. Cooooool.

One of my employees is a fan of washington's american football team, and her daughter gave her tix for an upcoming game for her birthday. she told me today that she's considering skipping the game and just doing dc stuff instead. I told her not to expect to get much for the tickets.

145 hp from a 5 liter engine is weak by today's standards. The EPA's emissions and mileage regulations strangled engine output in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The fact that we have $25k cars like the Honda Civic Si that make over 200 hp from a 1.5 liter engine is pure magic. 100 hp/liter used to be a holy grail but now you can get 158 hp/liter in a product as pedestrian as the Volvo XC90. These are Roman times, automotively speaking.

Spotify tells me that I listened to 4334 songs this year thus far. That’s like 2.5 cents a song. Seems pretty good.

Day of firsts for TR. First, I got my nose hairs waxed after getting a haircut today. The procedure is violent, but not painful. And they pulled out a shocking amount of nose hair. I highly suggest it. I arrived back at my desk to find out that a company I deal with sent me a 10 lb smoked turkey as a holiday gift. Another first for me. The bird is from Texas, so it should be good. The turkey company’s website is gobblegobble.com, which is brilliant.

No volume of hair ripped from your nostrils would shock me, unless it was zero.

Given the title of this post, there should really be a link to my recent post of the Tim Horton's woman flinging her dookie. Just sayin'.

That tune is definitely an "I may play this kinda loud if it pops up on SiriusXM's Lithium channel, but only if the windows are up" kinda tune. It's On by Korn is another one. #nĂ¼metal #umlaut

Our low power fm station in Roanoke is doing an hour of drug songs right now. I just heard:

Let's Go Get Stoned (Ray Charles)
Winning The War On Drugs (Asylum Street Spankers)
Little Green Bag(George Bakerw/ Stephen Wright intro)
We Took All the Acid(The Warlocks)
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds(The Beatles)
Mr Bill on Drugs (Original PSA)
Mr. Pharmacist(The Other Half)
The Pusher(Nina Simone)

The station is about 96.9% interesting and 85% good.

You could make a great (short) playlist just based on the word pusher/pusha.
