G:TB Blows Up

Dave mocked it, because he couldn't understand it. To be fair, Dave has a mental disorder that makes him unable to comprehend normal human emotional range, but he still mocked it.

Davo and Rog understood it, though.

A few short days ago, in celebration of the news that Bob Bradley had been tabbed as the first American manager of an English Premier League side, I tweeted a decidedly mixed message.

The point of this hyperbolic sentiment was that Bradley's tenure as Swansea manager will have an outsized impact on the future of American soccer. If he succeeds, doors open for American coaches and players. If he fails, if the pressure, or the media, or the fans, or the fact that he doesn't have great players at the moment conspire to see Swansea relegated this Spring, then doors close to Americans for a  long time. Bob Bradley carries a lot of weight on his American shoulders.

Men in Blazers' Twitter feed retweeted my take, which earned me fleeting internet fame, as well as Dave's derision when I mentioned it in the GTB comments.

But yesterday, America's leading soccer podcast doubled down on my genius. Check out the most recent Men in Blazers podcast, and skip ahead to 22:15. Check in a few minutes earlier if you want context.

If you're too lazy to go to the audio, here's the transcript: "@batogato tweeted us beautifully," said Roger Bennett, before reading the tweet. "You couldn't have put it better. Starting October 15, the whole of this country will be cheering for Bob. Godspeed."

I'm a pretty big deal.

I listen to about 69% of their podcasts. Missed that one, unfortunately.

okay, okay, it must be a significant tweet . . . i just can't take the "nail-biting nervous" bit . . . grown men don't bite their nails (unless a hurricane is bearing down on them or they're trapped in east aleppo). i've been taking a lot of flak this week for my contrarian nature . . . apparently a lot of people really like "hamilton" as well.

i will tell kevin and terry, my english teaching coaching buddies-- they are really into the show.

I heart Lee Corso--the 20 year mascot segment piece on College Game Day this morning was awesome.

I watched zero football today, but spent six hours on a wet sideline at a soccer tournament at Fort Dix, an army base that's a convenient 85 mins away. Long, wet grass and Vans sneakers don't mix well.

My 9 y/o son's team lost to a loaded FC Copa club team from Piscataway in their second game? Know them, Dave? It was a spirited 5-3 loss and my kid had a hat trick in defeat. They were all garbage goals, but putting yourself in the right position is half the battle.

The font size on the back of the Hurricanes' jersey is much too small. I don't like their chances.

Has anybody heard from Clarence or Whitney? Nah-folk seems to be getting an awful lot of bad weather right now.

clarence told me they've got some nasty weather, but that he's dry. weather-wise, anyway.

FSU-Miami nearly always brings it. That was fun. Odd that FSU nearly won two games because teams missed the XP on their would be tying TD.
