2016 NBA Draft: GTB Open Thread

As much as I hate to bump down rob's post, well, the NBA Draft is on tonight, and GTB loyalists have done yeoman's work in recent years chronicling the night's proceedings in the comments. So, figured I should give us all that forum once again for THIS evening. Plus, POST COUNT.

But before we begin, let's put some respek on this blog's namesake:

The 30th pick in the 1993 Draft, the one, the only, Ghitza

Two sleeper picks in tonight's first round:

We had to put our nearly 15 year old pit bull down this afternoon. Shitty day.

Oh man, sorry to hear that Mark.
I enjoyed my brief time(s) hanging with that pooch.

Man...sorry to hear that Mark.

Sorry Mark. Which one was the older one?

sorry to hear that, mark. that's a shitty day, for sure.

I heart Kris Dunn

the wolves are gonna be fun next year

I like Buddy too--want him to do well in the pros

twitter's about to be mean to poeltl's sister

Sabonis to the Magic. Mark should like.

rob said...

i like

Mark said...

If Sabonis is indeed going to Orlando, I'm pleased. I like him a lot. He's still young, has a great motor and rebounds like a beast, which traditionally translates. Not nearly as pleased as my friend Vitas will be though.

Thanks for the condolences, guys. As sad as we were to lose the dog, it was time. He was old, frail and his quality of life wasn't very good anymore. The older one was named Tinsley, Z.

Just getting home from a pickup game. Kris Dunn is a fantastic fit for Thibodeau. Minnesota is going to be good. Soon. I also think a Brow-Buddy combo could be dynamic.

magicians get serge ibaka - wonder if that means sabonis is headed to play with durant

Mark said...

Wait...Woj is reporting that the Magic are trading for Ibaka.

rob said...

meanwhile, britain is about to fuck up the world economy. wankers.

rob said...

oladipo, ilyasova, and sabonis to okc for ibaka

Shlara said...

Sabonis Sr. interview was a highlight of Round 1 so far

Mark said...

Yes. Woj says its Oladipo, Ilyasova and Sabonis for Ibaka.

Jakob Poetl to the Raptors makes no sense to me. And that's not even because I don't think he's very good.

rob said...

whoa - jimmy butler to the wolves for dunn, lavine and a second.

Mark said...

Sabonis seems like an odd fit in a front court that already has Adamas and Kanter.

rob said...

might've been hornswaggled by a fake account on that bulls/wolves trade. hornswaggled.

denzel!

rob said...

pour some moonshine out for ralph stanley

Mark said...

I love Denzel. Would've been fine with the Magic grabbing him.

Forgot to mention it earlier but the Mudiay/Murray backcourt combo has huge potential. Interesting future developing for the Nuggets.

rob said...

i like denzel, too, but i'm a sucker for izzo guys with question marks.

Pistons draft a time warp kid from the 1950s

Mark said...

I would love the Magic to get back involved in the late first round for Dejounte Murray. I didn't like him as a lottery pick but in the mid to late 20? Yes!

Mark said...

The Spurs are taking Murray so he'll become an All Star now. Damn it.

Diamond Stone - one and done and drafted 40th overall. He would've gotten more minutes and been a featured offensive player for the Terps this year. He got some bad advice.

I didn't watch much draft tonight. Wifey and I and some scotch dug into a Lance Armstrong doc on Showtime. He was such a fraud.

Shaping up to be the mother of all "risk off" days in global markets tomorrow. Equities and commodities will plummet.

On the flip side, a cratering yield in 10-yr Treasuries may give a big, albeit brief, window of uber-extraordinarily low mortgage rates. So go get your refi on.

I blame it all on the Welsh. They're cheeky.

zman said...

So you're saying I refinanced a week too early?

Cavs got my guy Kay Felder last night. Nice pick by LeBron.

Be afraid, denizens of GTB. THIS is how we get a Trump presidency:

Leave voter on BBC: "I'm shocked & worried. I voted Leave but didn't think my vote would count - I never thought it would actually happen."

TR said...

Voting for Brexit is an implicit vote against the immigration being seen across Europe.

The repercussions of this vote will be fascinating. Does this empower Catalonia to try to secede from Spain? Does it push Scotland toward independence as an EU nation? How long will the untangling take? Will the currency impact devastate discretionary spending in the US that's reliant on Euro tourism (looking at you, Macy's and Nordstrom)?

Uncertainty is not good for markets, and it will take months to untangle the derivative consequences of all of this.

One upside of the definite market chaos we will see is that it will/should minimize Trump's rant about how Brexit is a good thing. Not that he ever avoids bragging about negative things.

It did just mean that we booked dirt cheap rooms in Nottingham for Jess' next school trip in September.
and our London rooms the week after gonna be cheap too.

Am heading over in a couple of weeks...looks like I'll be able to have another pint or two.

gheorghe explains: brexit is gonna be a doozy. and it'll also look a lot like gheorghe explains: trump. bunch of old white people scared of brown people cratered the global economy, and it could happen again in november. that might be an oversimplification.

Ormond Beach for vacation with my sisters, their kids and my parents. Time to start day drinking on the beach. Hopefully I don't get run over by a car on the beach.

i played pickup soccer for two hours this morning. first time i've laced up the boots in five years or so. on the plus side, i didn't embarrass myself. on the negative, i want to die from the soreness.

zman said...

I almost threw up on the tennis court today. And it wasn't from funneling whiskey.

Dave said...

i haven't played pickup soccer or basketball for a month. less fit and feel great! at some age, exercise is bad for you. we hiked several hours in moab this morning and i just woke up from a nap. i am sore. there is a tennis court and we brought our stuff, but i doubt we will play. supposed to hit 102 today here.

Mark said...

I play basketball 2-3 a week and run another 2-3 times a week but played soccer for the first time in a few years a couple weeks ago and was really sore the next day. Crazy how much we're affected by different movements. I'm thinking of trying to take up tennis again and am terrified of how my body will react.

Also, where can I get some Croatian national team socks?

Mark said...

And does Portugal just not give a fuck about wearing kits that involve their nation's flag colors?

Mark said...

By the way, I say this as someone who likes the kits Portugal is wearing and is currently wearing board shorts that prominently feature the same color as Portugals current kits.
