NFL Week 7 Open Thread: Remember these posters?

Still remember having several of these, across all sports, plastered around my bedroom. I threw in a few gems below (I had the Bo Jackson one), but for a longread on the guys behind this poster phenomenon (the Costacos brothers), check out this great piece.

See you all in the comments. Football.

That Jim (Chris) Everett poster is phenomenal.

Washington followed a 38 yard pass play with a -17 yard play. Why are these guys 1-4 again?

Those posters are so spectacularly 80s. And yes, I had a few. Not surprising based on the absurd number of sports posters I had in my room growing up.

The Bucs sucks out loud.

After listening to the Grantland Football podcast a couple of times this week, TJ's right, the constant calling each other by their last names by Mayes and Barnwell is odd.

Nice call, Doyle.

Cooley and Doc Walker discussing duck butter on air. Good times all the time in the Skins booth.

Thanks, Mays.
You're welcome, Barnwell.

Why are the Jets jerseys so faded? Did somebody leave them out in the sun all summer?

Last TD from Washington came on an irresponsible pass from Griffin. Threw into coverage with a man underneath.

Bears Defense is poop on a stick. The Legends have a chance here.

ALERT - not sure how many of you knew this existed, but Cameron Crowe did a doc on Pearl Jam in 2011, celebrating 20 years as a band. Wife and I watched it this w/e. Tremendous, and I'm not a huge fan. Great walk down memory lane. Gives a ton of details on the band (and the Seattle scene) that I didn't know.

To complete that thought, it's on VH1 Classic on 10/27 at 5 PM ET and on VH1 Classic and Palladia on 11/1 at 1030 and 11 PM, respectively. Can't say enough about it, but the phrase "Cameron Crowe documentary" should be sufficient. DVR this!

The doc was part of PBS' American Masters series, and its great. Really enjoyed it.

Can't remember the last time I was this excited about a mid-season Jets win. Still don't think we're a playoff team, but hope for the future is a wonderful thing.

I had a Thurman Thomas "Thurmanator" poster. In college. To rootsy's chagrin.

rootsminer said...

I wasn't down with the Thurmanator back then? Dick move. It may have been misplaced envy- my mom threw out my vintage sports posters when I went to college.

zman said...

You made me hang it behind the door so no one would see it.

manning's arm looks noodle-tastic tonight.

Is Peyton Manning the Alex Rodriguez of football?

TR said...

The poster lists needs the Patrick Ewing "Madison Square Guardian" one. Great shot of him in ball-hugger shorts.

this football contest is dreadful

I'm not suggesting Greg Schiano isn't an idiot, but cutting Josh Freeman doesn't look like the worst idea tonight.

Danimal said...

chuck woolery's "australian dream" ad is my new favorite espn radio spot, supplanting the paul frederick pinpoint oxford dress shirt.

Mark said...

It's not so much that Schiano is an idiot, Clarence. That's something we're used to in Tampa. It's that who he's a tyrannical douchebag who's an idiot. Vicious combination.

zman said...

We've had vicious kings and we've had idiot kings, but I don't know if we've ever been cursed with a vicious idiot boy king!
