I suspect that Meriweather lacks the linguistic nuance required to say that the league's new rules are forcing defensive backs to go low and thus end careers. If you read what he said, it doesn't sound like he's purposely trying to end careers:

"To be honest, you’ve just got to go low now, you gotta end people’s careers.

“You gotta tear people’s ACLs, mess up people’s knees. You can’t him them high anymore. You’ve just got to go low.”
