Say something nice to your fellow man, friends. And we're thinking good thoughts about you, NYC.

Let it overflow indeed.

There is zero activity on 1st and 2nd Aves but I've definitely seen stronger rains here. Hopefully Jumbo Hot Bagels is open because I'm hungry.

zman said...

They're open. I'll use whitefish to weather the storm.

Marls said...

The bars stayed open til 4. I don't remember much more about the storm. However, I have a really bad headache so maybe I got hit with some flying debris.

Mark said...

Looks like my prediction came true. People are walking/driving through the streets of NYC already this morning.

What a bunch of overblown crap.

zman said...

It stopped raining here. zin-laws lost power out on LI though. Jumbo Hot Bagels is absolutely killing it today as no one else is open.

Marls said...

The m-fan on LI lost power as well, which really sucks for my aunt who has several feet of water in her basement. Other that and the apparent black truffle oil shortage, all appears well.

I really enjoy mark's irrational anger about the NYC related coverage. It's very conservative talk radio.

Lovely, breezy day here in DC. I might go for a run.

we survived! we're the most resilient people the world has ever known! lox for all!

nice of arsenal to live up to the first part of its name today. they're shite.

zman said...

I can't wait for the next dusting of snow in the metro DC area.

rob said...

rooney's scored two of the prettiest free kick goals you'd ever want to see today.

Marls said...

OMG, snowmaggedon!!! How will I get to Clyde's at Reston Townecenter? What if the metro stops running? How will minorities and poor people get around?

zman said...

How can you expect people to know how to drive in this stuff? Our area has people from all over the world and they don't have snow elsewhere!

rob said...

town center is two words, marls. come on.

It's over for Arsenal. They've managed to compete with the super-wealthy clubs for the past few years, but with City in the mix now, they've got no chance. Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and everyone else are just playing for 4th place.

Man City is probably going to win the league this year and will win it 3 out of ever 4 years going forward. United look good now, but they're going to slip to 3rd long-term.

My bad Rob. I'm clearly suffering from a lack of foie gras. The m-lady and I are heading to high tea to fortify ourselves.

we bailed water all night to finally succumb to the raritan's tidal surge. the park by our house is gone and we finally managed to pump a foot of water out of my mother-in-law's apartment with three pumps, but we're having professionals look at the damage tomorrow. the water is up to the bridge to new brunswick that many g:tb folks are familiar with. most other people in town have some sort of water in basement and damage, BUT on the plus side, my stonehenge formation held the mulch in place and none of my new arbor vitae floated away.

and if you flush the toilet, then shit comes out of the basement shower. good times here on the banks of the mighty raritan.

rob said...

the water's up to the bridge? that's nuts. what about the houses closest to the park?

Dave said...

the water is a few feet from the house closest to the park by me, and i haven't checked down the road but i think they might be under. it's nuts.

in fairness, the shit i just snaked out of my shower drain >>> colin cowherd

perhaps i will have a beer then . . .

just saw from my friend's deck-- route 18-- the six lane highway that leads from the turnpike to rutgers, is one with the raritan.

Marls said...

Dave, you are clearly making all of this up. Only Florida has real hurricane damage. Plus, there are no such things as "basements". Everybody knows that you build your house or place your trailer on a flat c-ment slab.

Seriously, good luck with the water and be safe.

Dave said...

i don't know if this qualifies as "hurricane damage." as silly as it sounds, this is the result of a preponderance of a strange substance called "rain." i never thought this "rain" would be so malicious.

Mark said...

Marls - I wasn't angry about this hurricane coverage. Bitter/angry is just my go to emotion so that's howit came off. I actually enjoyed how ridiculous the coverage was. Plus, I enjoyed being correct. I hope all in NY/NJ recover quickly. And can get back to telling us how much more important their lives are than the rest of America soon.

We we need (or even want) this Footloose remake?

zman said...

We clearly need a Shark Night 3D review from Mayhuge though.

like nearly all the world's problems, the whole nyc hoopla was driven by the news media's breathless ohmygodit'sgonnahitnewyorkcityit'stheendoftheworldasweknowit coverage. we just ran with it.

Mark said...

No, Rob, I was super fucking pissed off about it. I broke stuff and shit.

rob said...

i know. was just trying to mollify marls. dude's a loose cannon.

Sixteen Candles on HBO. This movie still holds up.

zman said...

Part of the huge media coverage is due to the fact that there are, like, a lot of people in the New York City metro area (as opposed to, say, Leesburg or Norfolk) and the media tend to report on stuff that interests a lot of people so that, like lots of people will watch or read it, and then they'll get big ratings and stuff. There simply aren't enough people who give a shit about the hinterlands to make covering weather in the boonies a profitable endeavor.

I just started following Channing Crowder on Twitter. I've audibly laughed twice in the last hour as a result of it.

Like dave, I pulled an all nighter bailing water Sat night. A window well kept filling up with water which from our basement made it look like we had an in-wall aquarium...which was cool until water started pouring in. Every hour from 10pm to 4am I crawled into the window well up to my waist in water and bailed it out. Good news...the finished part of the basement stayed dry. Bad news, I fucked up my back something awful and I'm walking around looking like I've got a crap in my shorts. Home ownership sucks.
