Idiots Rule, Part Deux

Nobody likes to hear about other people's NCAA tournament bracket's getting busted, I know this (it was by far the most annoying part of an otherwise highly entertaining Twitter day Thursday). And trust me, I would never have thought to post this unless 'House Jerry hadn't emailed post-midnight last night to let me know how awful I am doing in the pool below. Never mind my other bracket that is relatively unharmed - just take a look at your boy Teej thinking he was waaaay smarter than he really is...

After the first day of the 2011 NCAA Tournament, I lost four Elite Eight teams, two Final Four teams and a Finalist. This bracket, she is bad.

Batting .500 would be great if you were in baseball.

Can somebody call in a bomb threat to my office? I need this event I'm working to end...like now.

I'm like 7 slots behind the teej.

Losing 4 elite 8 teams before the first round is over is an imressive feat.

Bruce Pearl's team did not help his cause today.

rob said...

i was in a meeting during the second half of the tennessee/michigan game - what the hell happened there?

T.J. said...

A 52-17 Wolverine run i believe...

WOLVERINES!!!

Teej if you want some advice, I'm happy to talk hoops w/you. Free Darko's book helped me. My bracket is holding up well.

Mark said...

I thought Tennessee would rally behind Pearl and take it to Michigan. Obviously, I'm an idiot.

T.J. said...

I wonder if Michael got back on the gambling train for that game?

Mark said...

I've missed a lot of basketball and a little bit of drinking these past few days. I plan on making most of that up tonight...and tomorrow.

rob said...

i thought tennessee would implode. but not to this degree.

and i enjoy jessica taunting the teej.

T.J. said...

And I'm enjoying Mason finally showing up.

Mark said...

As am I. Not as much now that I know I'm missing out on Gus Johnson announcing this game.

Hampton is not coming alive.

rob said...

mason would be walking away with this if they could make some free throws. they're free, man.

T.J. said...

Gus' is about to lose it!!!

rob said...

two days in a row a caa team overcame a 6-point deficit to tie late. let's hope this ends better.

12:56 to go. A&M has zero.

Jay Bilas, Dick Vitale, Digger Phelps and Hubert Davis can go collectively choke themseles to death on an oversized bag of dicks.

rob said...

that's...colorful

someone got embarrassed by handies from 20-somethings again, did he?

This was a strong two day stretch for me: I left work early yesterday to drink and watch basketball, I did not have a hangover today, Mason won, and it looks like I won't have to work this weekend.

Mark said...

I feel like Z is mocking me. Still at work, post event while the women I work with are gabbing and drinking wine, oh and watching me break everything down. Thanks, ladies.

Still no ball, or booze yet today. Fuck me.

Mark said...

Derrick Williams is a beast. Love that guy.

zman said...

I am Mark, I am.

Also good: the office was dead today so I was able to dig into the new Drive-By Truckers album. It's better than The Big To-Do but not as good as Decoration Day or The Dirty South. Some tracks are old-school country (e.g., The Weakest Man, Pulaski), others are blues (e.g., Everybody Needs Love, which is an Eddie Hinton cover), while others are Shakedown Street-style disco (e.g., Used to Be a Cop). Other tracks feel like recycled DBT songs from previous albums (Ray's Automatic Weapon, Go-Go Boots, Dancin' Ricky). The album is good but no one will look at you askance if you don't have it in your iPod ... except maybe Igor but he's a music snob.

Any GTBers watching and commenting on games tonight? KQ has to skip our annual viewing party to attend a choir performance with her mom. Seriously.

rob said...

not just any choir - a gay men's choir. not that there's anything wrong with that. the gay part.

i'll be commenting with bells on.

T.J. said...

I'm doing the write-up on VCU/Gtown for SB Nation DC so I'll be around.

Shlara said...

You know what would be really cool? If CBS/TNT had a split screen channel for Rounds 1 & 2 like the NFL Red Zone channel

zman said...

Lots of busted fades/fros in the UNC/LIU game, so many that if you were to ask me "Who got the props?" I would not name anyone on either team.

Mark said...

I'm going to the bar with Vitas to watch some games early but should be commenting while there and then when I come home and begin mainlining whiskey.

Shlara said...

Yay for more Gus tonight!!

Shlara said...

Why does the VCU/Gtown game start at 9:50pm when both of those teams are on the east coast?

rob said...

to test whether or not i can stay up that late.

rob said...

we're gonna need to see some tighter games in the final round tonight, mmmkay?

rob said...

errrything going marquette's way

rob said...

bronbron has 41 with a minute left in the 3rd quarter

Shlara said...

These games are making me tired. I'm never going to make it to the VCU game

rob said...

the teej has some red bull you can have

rob said...

marquette tightening up here. hmmm.

zman said...

Dove should have included footage of Bobby Hurley's diarrhea game to illustrate their product's efficacy.

Shlara said...

we have lame announcers for the VCU game

rob said...

joey rod is a chucker

rob said...

the pace of this game is awesome

zman said...

I believe someone told me in this space that Marquette is poop. I'd like to see that clown's bracket.

Dave said...

i am commenting.

zman said...

Law firm NCAA pools are terrible. Everyone is pathologically risk averse, so the Sweet 16 are all 1-4 seeds, the Final Four are all 1 seeds, and the national champs are all OSU or Duke.

rob said...

dave! how was your cornholing?

TR said...

For the record, that was Zman complaining about NCAA brackets. Just when you thought he had nothing new to complain about, he pulls something out.

You stay grumpy, Zman.

zman said...

I spend 5 Sundays a year listening to you complain about thrid-party jerseys and this is how you repay me?

zman said...

And my gripe isn't with brackets in general, it's with the manner in which lawyers fill out brackets.

rob said...

just for kicks, z, give us your final 4

zman said...

Kentucky, UConn, Kansas, St. John's.

rob said...

somewhere, there are lawyers wondering how you passed the bar

zman said...

I passed 2 bars! And I'm in first place in both pools I entered (so far).

T.J. said...

Fuck you Jay Bilas. Fuck you Dick Vitale. Fuck you Hubert Davis.

rob said...

'georgetown is not a spurt team' ewwwww

zman said...

"I don't know anything about VCU, but they don't belong in the tournament."

"The questions should be: can this team win a first-round game? And I don't think VCU can."

T.J. said...

zman, how the f are you bitching? Did you see the bracket I posted?

zman said...

I'm not bitching about my bracket. I'm bitching about being in a pool where everyone simply picks the better seeded team in every game. It's no fun when no one has any crazy picks.

zman said...

It would be cool if JTIII busted out some Dove body wash right now.

rob said...

hope shlara stayed up to watch this

T.J. said...

Real shame ODU lost on that buzzer beater...

T.J. said...

zman, I disrespected the wrong Big East team.

T.J. said...

#3Bids4CAA...oh so close to #3Wins4CAA

Wait, technically...

zman said...

Yeah, the CAA got 3 wins. But is VCU's game really the "3rd round" as TNT called it?

Shlara said...

I'm in that half-awake mostly asleep mode.
Am awake enough to be psyched for VCU--frankly, it was such a blow-out that it was tough to stay awake!

Go CAA!

T.J. said...

This bracket might be bad, but wow, how bad are the 90 people with a worse score than me right now?

Dave said...

killed at cornhole yesterday-- including a 21-0 shut out-- and i was using the "method."

thanks youtube!
