Well, we've been touting them all year...

...and last night the VCU Rams made us look good by clinching the CAA's automatic bid with a gritty, gutty 65-59 victory over last year's darling George Mason, in a game Mason looked almost assured of winning at the two minute mark. But that's when VCU's sophomore point guard Eric Maynor absolutely took over, twice picking the pockets of Patriots ballhandlers on the way to 5 straight points, followed by a fantastic off-balance leaner in the paint, and two free throws on a dumb intentional foul to seal it for VCU. Congrats to Coach Anthony Grant and his team. I feel bad for the 5 or 6 seed who face these guys in Round 1.

Two other things:

1 - Siena blew that game last night, with their inexperience showing a bit in the final minutes (vs. the experience of a Niagara team only two years removed from the Dance). That being said, with those 4 freshman back and Hasbrouck a junior next year they will be the team to beat in the MAAC. And the Mihalich family might be the ugliest family tree I've seen in a long time.

2 - How good was that trade by the Jets? Who's running the Bears, Mr. Teeny? The Jets get an extremely productive back and the Bears second round pick for their second round pick. That's a fleecing by Mike "OH" Tannenbaum.

And Ron Artest is fucking certifiable...

I was shocked that the Bears gave up Thomas Jones, even with Benson in the fold. As for Ron, well, not so much.

That MAAC Championship game was quite good. Alot of high level offensive playmaking there. The CAA final was pretty solid too. It's cliche, but Maynor refused to let VCU lose.

It's really too bad that Billy Packer missed both of those games.

He was too busy watching Oklahoma State/Nebraska, on the off chance Okie St actually won a road game. He was gonna demand a 3 seed for them. Of course, they lost that game and will be exiting the Big 12 tourney with a whimper, and then giving up before the ball is even tipped in their NIT opener.

So, maybe Sean Sutton's not such a chip off the old block, huh?

He's not a raging alcoholic?

The Grammar Police called, and they said if there's one more instance of "alot" on this site they're going to shut us down and send us back to fifth grade.

They get annoyed by it. A lot.

Settle down...don't you have a job to not do?

Mark said...

Sorry. I've clearly stated that I'm stupid before. However, I'll try to clean up my grammatical mistakes...a lot.

And when did the Grammar Police reunite? I thought their egos would never allow for a reconciliation.

VCU isn't really a school. It's just a couple of buildings where they may or may not hold classes.

It's definitely more of a college than George Mason. It was funny to see the coverage during last year's Final Four when ESPN couldn't really find much of a campus beyond a few academic buildings.

Hey Office Lester--aren;t you supposed to be busy getting fired?

Get busy workin' or get busy gettin' fired.

Operation Shutdown is really taking it out of him. A lot.

By the way, "Rob" is off Gheorghe duty today, as he is recruiting at his alma mater, i.e., taking in a plate of potato wedges at the Delly, i.e., ogling some potato-shaped co-eds who wedged their belly into their Guess XL's.

At least George Mason isn't in Richmond. It's like Cleveland sans the whimsy.
