A stunning display of prognosticatory ineptitude by the G:TB Hoops staff - good thing all those folks from the DC Sports Bog and With Leather came over to have a look. As a group, we went 18-14 in round one - it's an achievement to be that bad on accident.
On the plus side, we've all got our regional champions alive and kicking for at least a few more hours. Overall standings after round one:
Rob (East) - 5-3, 25 points
TJ (South) - 5-3, 23 points
Dennis (West) - 4-4, 15 points
Whit (Midwest) - 4-4, 14 points

osu/xavier - wow.
vandy/wazzu - wow.
vcu/pitt - holy shit.
*this* is more like it. and levance fields missing those free throws is poetic justice, because it sure didn't look like he was fouled.
oh, and let's not forget about louisville/texas a&m, maryland/butler, and gheorghetown/bc. damn fine day of hoops.
dagggggger 3 by fields with maynor in his shirt. damn.
nighty night, cinderella.
Yesterday's games were classics, but the dearth of upsets has made this tourney a letdown for those of us who love the Cinderella stories most. There's a pretty good chance that after today's action, a 6-seed will be the biggest underdog left. It could make for some better contests in the next couple of rounds, but for now it's kind of a bummer to have the really cool stories written out of the script.
as someone without really deep rooting interest in individual college hoops teams (tribe excepted - in so many ways), i always root for the story in the tourney. they're falling fast this year, so i'm left with winthrop and maybe butler. kinda like gheorghetown for the local angle and the fact that they seem like a very well-coached team with a low jackass quotient.
