Joy is a Teenager

Thirteen years ago today, in the instantly inaptly-named Misery Loves Company, I wrote what will likely be the best paragraph I will ever pen:

Somewhere, Charlie Brown is smoking a cigarette, the Little Red-Haired Girl's head nestled against his shoulder as they lay in the afterglow of beautiful cartoon lovemaking. Lucy's sitting outside wondering how the hell he kicked that ball so far.

Me quoting myself using this very piece of prose is becoming something of a tradition this time of year. This is at least the fourth time I've done it. Perhaps it's because that memory is still seared so vividly in my mind.

So forgive my indulgence while we wait for a new fanbase to experience the pleasure of amorous animation. It was just so bolt from the blue blissful.

  1. Florida and Jim McElwain are apparently negotia buyout. My buddy texted me about it this morning. I was dubious but he’s connected so I listened. Now the rumors are being tweeted out by Gator beat writers. What. The. Fuck.

  2. Related to none of this, its salamander season in zyard. Over a dozen of various size and coloring.

  3. That is huge news potentially. That can’t be due tomorrow his season....maybe he was the guy that humped the shark.

  4. There have been rumors that’s he’s been at odds with the athletic administration for a while now. His weird death threats press conference definitely ratcheted that up this week. Florida has a new AD this year (from Mississippi State) so he has no allegiance to him. Between the CC scandal and the death threat thing, as well as another year of shitty offense, the new AD may just want to hit reset.

I understand that and think McElwain has underperformed offensively but also think this year looks FAR different without callaway and Scarlett in the lineup. More than anything, I’m not in favor of continued instability in the football program.

  5. *With Callaway and Scarlett in the lineup. Both are borderline first round talents.

  6. Getting rid of him imo is a mistake.

  7. I agree.

Taking the worst ass whipping Florida’s taken in decades isn’t going to help his case much though.

  8. My sister-in-law and girlfriend moved into an apartment today. Her first as an adult. We’re experiencing all the feels right now. These last eight years have been quite a ride.

  10. that's some nice prose there squirrely.

T.J. needs to reread his last comment because it sounds like he's dating his sister-in-law. It also sounds like he started dating her when she was very young.

  15. The Ohio State comeback was great. Penn State not using Barkley on the final drive was maddening.

    I enjoy late playoff baseball.

  21. Note that the English teacher made a grammatical error while correcting someone else's syntax (which was perfectly fine, albeit not perfectly clear if you don't know Teedge's family).

  22. The Jets cheerleaders look absolutely miserable--they're tatted up in Halloween costumes and their halftime show starts out with them lying down in a pile at midfield. I cannot think of a reason to sit in the stands in these conditions unless I was much younger and much drunker.

  23. McElwain is gone. I appreciate Florida’s urgency with the firing. If he’s done then get his ass outta there immediately.

  24. The Bulls hoodie that’s Aswan McDermott is wearing is pretty sweet.

  25. Cowboys by 3 over Washington is tempting to give the points and take big D bags. They should win going away. But never bet on DAL/WAS.
