Daddy's Little Psycho

It's been 18 months since I wrote about Green Day in this space, Now, on the occasion of their latest studio album, Revolution Radio, I return to celebrate* the greatest pure rock band of my generation.

(* - I'm gonna write a few sentences and post a video.)

Green Day turn 30 years old this year. Its primary members are all squarely in their mid-40s, the inchoate and aimless rage of their early 20s replaced by an idealistically socially conscious one. For me, that idealism serves a selfish purpose, as my 15 year-old daughter just got turned onto the band and is fast becoming a fan.

In March, Green Day bring three chords and the truth (contractually obligated to say that, at this point) to the Verizon Center in Washington, DC, where I'll get to fulfill one of my own rock and roll bucket list items alongside my kid. Not quite 'She's a Rebel', but an 'Extraordinary Girl' in my book.

Here's the video from 'Bang Bang', the first single from the new record. It sounds a lot like Green Day.

They're closing CarPool?

I heard that tune in SC late in the summer. It rocks. Who woulda thunk the biggest rock releases of 2016 would be Blink 182, Green Day and Sum 41?

Gizmodo nailed the Ken Bone experience from the debate last night: "Kenneth Bone was catnip for the bored, half-drunk, miserable masses watching the debate."

I also liked Total Frat Move's Instagram post that called him a hipster bro, with his stache and his quarter-zip sweater.

point breakish

Jalopnik had a whole "what does Ken bone drive?" post and the comments were not charitable.

it does rock, tr. 'cause it's green day.

Why do I even bother watching the Bucs?

Green Day has aged well. But Billie Joe has had some assholish moments in recent years. Hopefully he's gotten things under control. I have some high school buddies who love them.

Sayanara, Big Papi. Quite a 13-year runs .

yep. i'm gonna miss that dude.

in local news, my kidlet made her solo debut today. played three songs in front of 15 or so. in my unbiased opinion, it might've been the best thing ever. one of the tunes is on facebook, if you're into that kinda thing.

your daughter has a beautiful voice. i'm sure her appearance on Hee Haw will be a stepping stone to classier venues . . . what he hell is that place?

rob said...

it's a local farm that has a ton of activities for kids. always packed on fall weekends. apparently she's got a 'gig' there in two weeks.

If you are from the east coast, In-N-Out < Five Guys, and it's not close.

zman said...

Smashburger > Five Guys.

After reading about Derrick Rose discussing his penis and his "take your used condom w/ you so the girl can't make herself pregnant" beliefs in recent days, I thought the story couldn't get more interesting. The murder of the detective investigating that story changes that quite a bit.

smashburger = five guys

i was a fan of burgerfi, but it went out of business in new brunswick. we have a hipster burger place in town, but they charge a shitload . . . it shouldn't cost fifty dollars for a family of four to get burgers and fries (sans alcohol)

Best burger I've ever had is the andouille and beef burger at Christopher's in Cambridge. Perhaps the biggest loss in my divorce was this burger--my ex-wife continued to live in Porter Square so I rarely went to Christopher's after we separated. But I did go a handful of times, despite the high odds I might have to interact with her, because that andouille and beef patty was so damn good.

Rob, Bluemont Winery is across the street from the farm. The Clarence Clan and the Marlses got overserved there one afternoon several years ago. You need to get her a gig there.

Sitting across from a Spirit Airlines gate at Logan airport. They are boarding a flight to Vegas. Let's just say that the assembled group is an interesting bunch. I feel like this must be what a Trump rally looks like.

rob said...

who's got a post for tomorrow, yo?

rob said...

i've been over served there, myself, marls. makes that drive back down the hill a lot of fun. we'll work our way up to that kind of gig.

New post up, not that anybody's paying attention.
