Gheorghemas Is The Giving Season, Pt. 2

It's beginning to look a lot like springtime, as it's a balmy 69 degrees in Virginia, but it's still the holiday season -- that holiday being Gheorghemas!

As we round out the home stretch of your Gmas offerings, here comes another batch of gifts from the original gri-onch, Clarence.

For Mark and Zman: this is a dandy.

The Rap Year Book: The Most Important Rap Song From Every Year Since 1979, Discussed, Debated, and Deconstructed
This thing looks bad-assed.  It could be all flair and no pizza shooters, shrimp poppers or extreme fajitas, but were I to judge a book by its cover (and a brief peek via Barnes and Noble), I'd say it's solid. The book is fodder for arguments of the significance of each year's selections (e.g., no tunes by the three bad brothers you know so well), but in my milieu of early to mid-80's rap, I see no egregious inclusions.  This gift is for Mark and Z, but I wanna borrow it.  Friends... how many of us have them?

For Dave:

Very Semi-Serious: A Partially Thorough Portrait of New Yorker Cartoonists

A documentary of the world of New Yorker cartoons, the cartoon department, the cartoonists, etc. Dave has been a cartoonist since we sat in college classrooms not paying attention together.  I would play the initials game and flirt gamelessly with co-eds; Dave would doodle and make cartoons.  Later he submitted captions and possibly even cartoons to the magazine.  Enjoy.

For Danimal:

Sorry, dude.  It's not worth that much, but it's not nothing, either.

Until the next time, Happy Gmas!

Cheers,
Clarence

  1. If you're not careful, Clarence might give you the clap.

  2. Thanks Clarence. You made my day.

  3. I bought the rap yearbook. It's from the same man who brought us Bun B's rap coloring book, Shea Serrano. He's a great Twitter follow as well. Merry Xmas eve, Gheorghies!

    ReplyDelete
  4. I found a Christmas Rock station on Apple Music that has featured Billy Squier, a 90's era incomprehensive Bob Dylan, and...wait for it...Twisted Sister doing Come All Ye Faithful to essentially the same backing music as We're Not Gonna Take It.

Helluva Playlist. I wish I had Bloody Mary fixings.

Marls - are there any Xmas tunes on your Twisted Sister live double CD?

  5. Have heard nothing but good things about the Yearbook on the tweet machine.

    Happy xmas eve, gheorghies

  6. it's fucking 70 degrees here. this is stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  7. About 69 degrees and humid here. Not very christmasy but I'll take it.

    ReplyDelete
  8. No Christmas tunes in the double live album but TS apparently released a whole Christmas album back in aught six.

    ReplyDelete
  9. You folks' preoccupation with the warm Xmas temps amuses me. Tis the norm round here.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I ain't gonna complain about the temp, but the clouds/drizzle/humidity are making the air danker than I'd like.

I was able to sneak in a run, which should offset the two-day food/booze binge that will start after my shower. Meat fondue, pasta, shrimp and some homemade guac tonight, washed down with lots of wine. And everything is wrapped. Giddyup.

  11. I'm in the same boat as TR. Got a good workout in and then will render all of it moot over the next day and a half. Pretty much done with wrapping as well, save for a handful of items.

    ReplyDelete
  12. this is our version of a floridian's complaint about 42-degree temps, mark. live and let live.

    ReplyDelete
  13. It was so warm in the house we had to put on the airconditioner.

  14. As I said, Robert. I'm amused. No ill will whatsoever.

Derrick Williams reportedly had 750K worth a jewelry stolen from him. The report about it is all kinds of fantastic but the two best parts IMO are that he discovered this after he woke up at 4 pm (!!!) and that one of the items stolen was a chain with a diamond encrusted Hennessy logo charm. He must LOVE Hennessy.

  15. i want to get stronger in 2016. if one of you gheorghies could post a workout i could do at home that's geared towards that goal, i'd appreciate it. maybe the tenth day of gheorghemas, or something. thanks in advance.

  16. Williams got a 2-yr, $10 MM contract from the Knicks this offseason. His prior career earnings were $21 MM. You can probably add in a couple million to that for endorsements when he had tea potential.

So you're looking at $33 MM pre-tax. If you back out 35% for taxes and 15% for agent/manager/lawyer, you get to $15 MM in earnings. $750 K is 5% of that. It's a healthy allocation to bling, to say the least.

He should have a chat w/ Clinton Portis about budgeting.

  17. And AI. That dude loved his jewelry.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Same thing happened to Will Allen right after the Jints drafted him. I can't imagine spending $1k on jewelry, let alone $750k.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'd suggest buying a pull up bar for starters, Rob. A regular pull up routine will pay large dividends.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm reading the Iverson book 'More Than A Game'. His financial decisions (and that of his wife as well) are mind numbing in their impulse and short sightedness.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Just the three of us for xmas, but doesn't mean brisket, lamb AND ham aren't going right now.

    ReplyDelete
  22. i'm a little bit excited for that cavs/warriors matchup tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm as excited for that game as any regular season NBA game in memory. The timing of it will be slightly problematic because it means I'll have to ignore my in laws and their guests but I'm sure they'll get over it.

  24. Push ups and pull ups baby. I can't do the latter due to weakness and clavicle.
For some laughs, inspiration, and some great workouts, read "Living With a Seal"

  25. Merry Gmas you people. Been a while. Made a quick jaunt to Virginia to visit my sister's compound with the 2 eldest.

BTW....at the recommendation of pal JP, I just made myself an egg nog with......Fireball. I like it and too recommend. The 2nd one is right around the corner.

Lastly, after years of cajoling I finally bought us a golf cart. Yup...and the long ass limo 6-seater variation to boot. It is somewhat pimped out with big wheels, gold piping on black seats, and gold spokes. Shit is fly.

    ReplyDelete
  26. egg nog is fucking disgusting. a pox on drinkers everywhere.

and danimal, dude, we need photos of that piece.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 2 drink limit on the nog. And it is the low fat stuff. Don't knock it jerk

    ReplyDelete
  28. Don't knock the nog. It's a classic.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Santa brought zson pinkeye for Xmas. We're at zmom's so I had to go to an urgent care center and then a random Walgreens for the prescription. It was a quintessentially Bergen county experience. Which is to say it was awful.

    ReplyDelete
  30. you can keep your nog. i'm about to tuck into a bottle of four roses small batch that the generous mr and mrs marls gave me.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Series MVP Murph 3 yr deal to the Nats. We may have to run that wager back Clarence? You can get in this time too Marls. Merry Merry all - kickin things off with a Sculpin / Fresh Squeezed combo paired with a lobstah/squid/shrimp pasta a la Q.

    ReplyDelete
  32. the nats will come to regret that deal. murph got paid based on three weeks of extraordinary hitting. he's a nice player, but he's just that.

    ReplyDelete
  33. We shall see. People, including Met's fans, seem to like to bash Murph. I'll take a guy that came through under pressure when it mattered.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm with Rob on being extremely anti nog. The wife loves it. I find repulsive. Good for y'all who like it though.

Had to go to church even though my immediate family is in Tallahassee. Tis the cost of sending the kid to a church run preschool. The upside is dinner at the Chart House. And of course the Bulleit I'll get into when we get home.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Went to church this eve also. It was a 4:00 service featuring the kids. Lots of fellas classing it up w shorts and t shirts. Yes. I was judging. Sorry.
Stocked up the ligger cabinet with Blantons, Balvenie (Caribbean cask), and some Hendricks Gin. And as a gift I received an 18-year Jameson.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Been meaning to tell Danimal that I had some Ron Z in Peru. And then grabbed some (and some Pisco) at the duty free on my way home.

Saw some shorts at church tonight too. Judged the fuck out of those sloppy jackholes.

    ReplyDelete
  37. So Mark just trumped my alcohol purchase/gift with a pic of what I presume is a new bottle of Pappy.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Just got my first Xmas present from the wife. A bottle of 10 year Pappy. I'm all set from here out.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Let's meet in Daytona Mark. Leaving now.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm cracking a meager Basil Hayden's.

    ReplyDelete
  41. mark's already won christmas and it hasn't even started yet

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hope that the Four Roses SB is treating you well Robert. It is a favorite of ours.

Mr. KQ, you think that Murph seals the deal on the Gnats winning the division by 20?

    ReplyDelete
  43. My 6 y/o absolutely refuses to go to sleep. Our attic stairs are four feet from his door. Wife and I are both tired and I'm a little drunk.

    Sub-optimal. Happy Xmas y'all.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hang tough, TR. I'm wrapping solo. No one is stirring, not even a louse.

    Merry Christmas, gheorghies.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Charles Woodson might be my all time favorite football player that I have no professional or collegiate affiliation with. Cool scene for him in Oakland tonight.

As for Christmas, we had more wrapping than I thought. Plus I had to put together a Mini Audi for the kid that took longer than anticipated. Finally done. Merry Christmas, Gheorghies.

    ReplyDelete
  46. merry christmas, gheorgies. let there be peace on earth, and ghoodwill twixt men.

    ReplyDelete
  47. danimal's boy whit babcock gets some major stroke in the wapo this morning

    ReplyDelete
  48. Merry Christmas morning Gheorghies. At a local hotel getting the little one out of the house while we wait on our older child to come to our house so we can all do Xmas together.

We just rode bikes on A1A and are now eating breakfast on the ocean. In 80 degree weather. Cold weather is cool, I'm sure, but I'll take this.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Happy birthday, Jesus

    And happy Gheorghemas, fam

  50. Yeah....good article. I sent him a text a few days after the Fuente hire to congratulate him. His response acknowledged they/he is in the honeymoon period. He is getting it done that is for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Return begins. Still second fav to Empire, but regardless, trilogy in a day is an awesome Xmas.
