Feats of Daring Week

As usual, we stumble into a theme by sheer force of laziness and desperation.

We established yesterday that I'm a mediocre mountain biker. Today, an endeavor at which I'm far more accomplished, yet still miles (inches?) behind the art's most sublime practitioners.

Chinese driver Han Yue recently set the world's record for tightest parallel park, squeezing his Mini into a spot with only 3.15 inches to spare.

Enjoy his stunt parking stylings.

As is the question, "It's 30° outside. What are you wearing as you walk to your car?"

If off from tomorrow through Monday. My motivation to work today is waning. Quickly.

rob said...

i assume that means you'll be cranking out gtb content

Mark said...

Not a fucking chance.

you know you wanna do a post about the unholy amount of food your in-laws are about to cook.

"working" for a few hours tomorrow simply for self-preservation and my children's well-being. Bought a couple hundy worth of liquor and wine during lunch, then went to lunch and had a beer. That pretty much dampened any afternoon ambition that I might have had. By 7 a.m. tomorrow I will have consumed a glass or two of Ronnie Z. Ready to get this party started.

is tomorrow the annual killer swim, danimal?

Danimal said...

No and yes. It's not the one you are familiar with that introduced you to Ronnie Z. We have these "birthday swims", anything to make a mundane activity less so. Age is incorporated into the workout - tomorrow's guy is 61 (he's actually the guy that introduced the Ron to us - the worldly surfer) Last year when he turned 60, we did 6000 yards for example. Yeah, that sucked. Tomorrow won't be that nutty though - probably 61 50's or 61 75's. Either way, it's followed by the Ron.

Danimal said...

Was just confirmed - no nuttiness tomorrow

My in laws don't do much of the cooking for Thanksgiving, Rob. They handle Xmas.

I'm smoking a turkey though. Not writing about that either.

Danimal/Rob - if I'm not a big rum guy, should I buy a bottle of this "Ron Z" of which you speak? Is it good enough to drink on the rocks? I have a hard time getting into sipping liquor that ain't scotch or bourbon.

Somewhat related - Lagunitas IPA comes in a 24 oz bottle and is damn good on a train. And I'm not a big IPA guy.

ron zacapa 23 is the full name of the stuff, tr. it is definitely good enough to drink on the rocks. it tastes a bit like a sweeter whiskey, but not so sweet as to be off-putting. trust danimal, he knows.

and lagunitas makes great beers. their brewpub is a terrific scene, too. but you probably can't get there via train.

Danimal said...

TR. Yes. Wouldn't steer you wrong. I've never had consumed it any other way.

Danimal said...

You know what I mean.

The DC protesters finished their march on the steps of the Portrait Gallery. I caught a few minutes when I left the Wizards game tonight.

Very peaceful. Pretty impressive

I'll give the rum a shot and see if it's as good as you old people claim.

just when i thought the fightin' snyders couldn't get any dumber...they go out and totally redumb themselves.

what do they possibly have to gain by benching griffin right now?

zman said...

Send in the griffin!

fellow drinking men, i'm in need of a recommendation. looking to put together a thanksgiving cocktail for a reasonably small group. would prefer it include whiskey, given the season (and the fact that i like whiskey best of all the spirits) but i'm open to other ideas.

rob said...

drinking women, too. apologies for the sexism. i'm a terrible person.

rob - did you ever try the bourbon milk from gtb's past? I know, it sounds as appealing as blood pudding, but is really pretty tasty when made correctly.

tr - the Ronnie is very versatile. I need to correct myself and say that I've had a Ronnie Z Old Fashioned made by a Diageo guy - it's heavenly. I can also tell you that just this morning, I drank Ron on ice with donuts from Krispy Kreme. Also...heavenly.

i can't get my head around milk in my cocktail, danimal. i don't dig on dairy. filthy fucking animals.

According to the Food Network, you should try a Spiced Bourbon, Beer and Maple Martini.

Ingredients
1 cup chilled bourbon
1/4 cup chilled dark beer, such as Negra Modelo
1/4 cup chilled pure maple syrup (preferably Grade B)
Ice cubes
1 whole nutmeg
4 small dried red chiles, such as japones, rinsed and patted dry

Directions
Combine the bourbon, beer and maple syrup in a martini shaker. Fill the shaker with ice cubes. Cover and shake about 8 times. Strain the drink equally into 4 large chilled martini glasses. Using a nutmeg grater, grate about 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg over each martini. Add a chile to each martini and stir to blend. Serve very cold.

rob said...

that could be a winner, clarence

Danimal said...

I understand Rob. Scaredy cat.
You may or may not have heard - these days there are alternatives to dairy based milk. We in fact drink very little to no milk and instead buy soy milk. And for this drink - vanilla flavored soy milk!

The Clarence cocktail appealed to me until he got to the chiles part. Seriously folks, what's up with that?

Clarence said...

Season to taste, Danny Boy. Chump don't want the chiles, chump don't get the chiles. Sheeeeeeit. (Golly.)

Mark--I'm super impressed you are smoking the bird.

Rob--Sangria? Made a fall one last night with white white, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, allspice, apples, oranges, apple liqueur, and a bit of cinnamon liqueur. Its strong. Gonna need to be over ice and cut with club soda. But good.

Drinkn a dogfish at Lynch's Irish Pub.
