Fashion is Dumb: Tennis, Anyone?

Though you wouldn't know it by the sub-20 temperatures and five inches of snow outside my door (and counting), we're only four months away from the start of the 2014 World Cup. U.S. Soccer released the official home jersey for the U.S. Men's National Team this morning. It's this:

Nike has teams of designers who've done incredible things with fabrics, colors, and textures. Apparently, those people were busy on other projects, like LeBron's face mask. The team that designed this jersey appears to have spent about 15 minutes on it. My first reaction: "Jesus, that's boring as shit."

Could be worse, as a Deadspin commenter points out. We could've returned to the 1994 World Cup kit, an ungodly mishmash of denim, acid wash, and a child's imagination.

For what it's worth, there's a pretty cool history of USMNT jerseys from 1984 - 2010 here. We've put our boys in some dreadful shit over the years.

INSTANT UPDATE:

Here's a picture of the full kits. I like them a bit better in context, but I still don't love them. Of note, the guy with the flag over his shoulders is the founder of The American Outlaws, the leading U.S. Soccer supporter's organization. That's a pretty cool touch for U.S. Soccer.

I guess Nike used up all their good ideas on Olympic hockey jerseys. The Slovakian jerseys were very cool.

These jerseys will sell well though due to the collared shirt look they have.

Yup - they will sell tons of them.

Rob- you see Jimmer's on the Bulls. That's actually a nice fit for him.

timely - been looking for some pakistani dresses. many thanks.

I'm working from home this afternoon. My stepdaughter is here with me. Two women just got into a full on brawl on the front lawn across the street from my house. Three cop cars are now on the scene. Florida!!!

Rob- Nate Robinson's not exactly a defensive stopper and he got plenty of run in Chicago. At some point Thibs just has to deal with it because he needs some scoring.

i never liked danimal all that much.

Bill Clinton nutted up on his intern's unis.

Who nutted up about these new Buccaneers jerseys? Hideous.

lebron is 17/24 overall, 8/8 from three, has 49 points through three quarters. no big deal.

was just perusing some old gtb comments threads (looking for something specific, not browsing - that would be weird) and came across a comment in which i accurately predicted how 'the wire' would end. how the fuck didn't i recall that prediction at the time? 10 years from now, when you guys are lamenting rob's dementia, you can point to that moment as the first sign.

Gotta admit, I'm a little disappointed none of you seemed very interested in the lady fight that took place across the street from my house yesterday.

Mark I thought it was awesome and am all over that shit. Although most of the time I just lurk silently here like a creep.

Nick Carter tweeted that he loves the new Bucs uniforms. And then the Bucs retweeted it. Unfortunately, this is my football team.

Glad you enjoyed, Mr. KQ. It was a real fight too. Punches, hair pulling, kicks and multiple take downs. My stepdaughter and I watched the while thing from our front window. A great bonding opportunity for us.
