Lather, Rinse, Repeep

It never disappoints, does it? Sure, individual games let us down. We're looking at you, Colorado. Sometimes the results don't go our way. So close, St. Joe's. And once in a blue (hen) moon, we're left wondering what might have been. Nice defense, Delaware. (Classy move, too, by Monte Ross, complaining about facing Michigan State as a four seed.)

But the first two days, they never let us down. I just watched Saint Louis come back from 16 down to tie North Carolina State. Or, more accurately, I just watched North Carolina State author one of the more amazing choke jobs I can remember. My heart rate is elevated, and I don't give a flying fuck who wins this game.

Sports are cool.

Muppet Peeps, as well. Enjoy Day Two.

I've got the day off today. I'm fairly certain some afternoon beers will be involved. That's after I finish a few pages in my grammar workbook, of course.

Mark said...

Because I've got the day off I'm at the gym much later than usual for a weekday. And who else is here at this time? The motherfucking Canadian Crew team. Dagger.

Clarence said...

The good news is that there is a Crew.

Not 5, not 4, not 3, just 2. 2 MC's who are claiming the fame, and all other things won't be the same.

watch out for 12 inches of snow, mark

Mark said...

The Canucks have doubled in numbers since I arrived. They're everywhere! Like a bunch of Bebe's kids with weird accents.

T.J. said...

Bebe Neuwirth?

Mark said...

Best part of the Wolfpack choke job was Mark Gottfried choosing to leave ACC POY TJ Warren in with 4 fouls and his team down 1 & in a must foul situation coming out of a timeout. Mark Gottfried is an awful basketball coach but that might've been a new low.

In the event y'all are checking...I'm making the chili that you gave recipe for...perhaps stupid question, but when u say "chuck" do you mean chuck roast that you cut up and added with other meat OR chuck roast, ground in addition to the other grd beef??
Help fast!!

T.J. said...

Donna, it was cubed chuck roast we had gotten from our CSA. We ALSO had ground beef in there AND andouille sausage, sliced up.

Donna said...

Got it! About to leave store- hoping to win chili cook off at church tomorrow!
Pinewood derby race and chili cookoff at church-that's how we roll :-)

T.J. said...

good luck, hope you win, and happy chili'ing

rob said...

ohhh, mercer, mercer me...duke ain't what they seem to be, nooooo.

actually, after watching them lose at wake forest, duke is exactly what they seem to be.

Marls said...

EAD Duke

Mark said...

Mercer!!!! Same conference as Florida Gulf Coast. Might be time to start picking said conference champ as one of your regular upsets.

TR said...

No offense to Mark's interesting morning, but I just won the random celebrity encounter of the day. Details possibly forthcoming in a post tomorrow.

I owe it all to King George's Seafood Buffet.

And I second what Marls said at 2:31.

Mark said...

None taken. I see the Canadian Crew team on a regular basis as they train down here 4-5 months a year. I hate the Canadian Crew team.

T.J. said...

pretty happy with my TN to sweet 16 pick right now

TR said...

Those pics of the white guys on Mercer celebrating are intolerable. I don't know who's worse - #3 dancing or #20 celebrating. I expect to see Chris Mims emerging.

Makes me hate them almost as much as Duke, which I inexplicably picked to go to the Finals.

zman said...

My guess is you saw Jeter while visiting Dr. Ahmad.

Brooklyn Decker's bracket is in surprisingly good shape. And by "bracket" I mean her bracket.

I too took the day off to run some errands before I go to San Francisco for a meeting on Monday. I'll have all day Sunday to myself. Any suggestions for food and drink?

Further, one of my errands panned out better than expected, resulting in me doing one of the coolest things I've done in years. Potential zfiller. I know you're all trembling with anticipation.

Marls said...

What's with this cliffhanger bullshit?

Mark said...

I'd guess TR's bitterness with Mercer is related to his Duke pick. Ill know for sure if he didn't enjoy the Mercer pg doing the robot behind his coach & Rachel Nichols during the post game interview. Chapelle Show style robot is always a winner.

Z- my old college roommate lived in SF for about a decade. Ill get some recs. where are you staying?

rob said...

I think zman and tr saw each other. they're both internet semi-famous.

rob said...

vick to the jets. were i a jet fan, that'd get me a little bit excited.

T.J. said...

Shut up

Marls said...

What the fuck are the Jets thinking? The NY Post writers are creaming in their pants over the QB controversy. The headline writers are already putting together samples....

VICK-Tory
Doggin' It
VICK-6!

TR said...

Jets are a wild card contender w/ an average QB. Hard to hate the move, b/c we don't know if Geno'a any good and this is a bad-ass front seven on defense.

Zman - if you're feeling adventurous, rent a bike and go over the Golden Gate Bridge. No uphill pedaling involved. Take the bike down a hil into Sausalito, a cooler-than-cool little town that would be a fun place to live if you were a functionally alcoholic poet. Eat and drink there and tell people your name is Junot Diaz. When you want to leave, take the ferry back across to SF.

rob said...

i'm serious. you'd rather have geno smith than mike vick? that's crazy talk.

Clarence said...

Cha Cha Cha in the Haight has provided a ton of great nights. Just beware the sangria. Killer.

Alcatraz is one of the few tourist attractions anywhere that holds up every time. It's really a must. Get the headphones.

Irish Bank is a great Irish bar in an alley. O'Reillys also not bad.

House of Shields in the Financial district.

Steps of Rome. Saw Andy Garcia there. He's like an Italian Rob in stature.

Watch the monsoon come in at the tonga Room at the Fairnont. Hokey. Drunky.

A burrito in the mission.

Just walk through the Haight and inhale. Old school record store as well.

So much more. Miss it bad. Going for the first time in a decade in August for Outside Lands. Get some.

T.J. said...

Believe the place is called Town Hall, down by the Moscone Center. Phenomenal food and cocktails.

Danimal said...

Z....head down to marina blvd and cruise/walk around. Go watch the crazy effs at aquatic park swim laps in their speedos and then go dip your toes in the water. I second the bike ride across the bridge but it is only flat if you start there. Probably against advise of your orthopedic.
Alcatraz tour is actually pretty cool too.

Clarence said...

Echo Danimal's marina call. The marina green, you can walk there from the wharf, then head up to Lombardy street, that wacky, wacky street!!!! Or get beers somewhere.

Danimal said...

And if you want REALLY wacky....go to Lombard Street.

Clarence said...

No, Danimal, that's too crazy. It's all crooked!!

Typing is Fundamental. TIF

Danimal said...

Baylor uniforms kill Mosquitos.

zman said...

Medina Green? I've been to SF before, hit Sausalito and boozed like a wino. I've ridden a bike once since I got my driver's license so the bridge ride is out. But these all sound like great ideas, thanks. I'm staying in the financial district but I'm not afraid of cabs or Bart (joke for two).

TR said...

I'm happy w/ Vick, Rob. Will make Geno earn the job. We just need a RB now. Pats' run defense looking weak, so we need a guy who can carry it.

TR said...

You can almost feel the presence of God Shammgod hovering over Providence's perky performance.

I always respected Dean Smith, but it's fun to hate on Roy Williams.

zman said...

The Bills are all over Sanchez.

zman said...

I'll never get why Infiniti changed all their cars' names to Q. I have no idea what any of them are called now.

T.J. said...

Personally, I think Michael Vick is a piece of shit. But yes, I'll admit as a football move this helps the Jets. But seriously, fuck that guy. And his idiot brother too.

TR said...

Knicks might actually lose to Philly tonight. Would be fun.

zman said...

I wish I could do that spin move.

TR said...

Knicks had a 17 point lead with less than 6 mins remaining. They went scoreless in 12 straight possessions. Too bad the Sixers threw it away.

Being a male cheerleader for a big-time program: Awful or not awful?

Danimal said...

As opposed to say a DIII school?

rob said...

on the one hand, you're pretty jacked up and get to lay hands on hot cheerleaders. on the other hand, you're a male cheerleader. i'm leaning awful.

zman said...

Mark, do male cheerleaders have groupies at Florida?

TR said...

In basketball, you basically sit and watch from close up most of the time, get on TV a lot, get to fondle lady cheerleaders and are encouraged to stay fit.

If you look at the UVA dudes, they're just watching the game right now. No pom-poms or bullhorn. It's a bit appealing.

Danimal said...

Dude on UVA just hit a sweet hook shot. Rarely see that today.

Mark said...

Breeze through in the Q/45 by my side.

Also, ride bikes and drink wine? Does TR think Zman is a woman in her 40s?

Mark said...

Male cheerleaders didn't get much play at Florida from what I could tell. Other than great seats for sporting events I don't see a ton of upside in the male cheerleader gig.

Mark said...

Galactic is playing at The Fillmore tomorrow night and Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings are there from Thursday to next Saturday.

Danimal said...

Coastal Carolina playin. Not looking at a bracket but do any other low seeds like Coastal get the benefit of playing a couple hours from home? They are closer to Raleigh than their 1-seeded opponent.

Danimal said...

So no Orlando for you Mark?

Mark said...

No. My Mom's 70th birthday was today so I have a bunch of family in town this weekend. Stupid loving family.

Danimal said...

5 foreign nationals on Coastal.

Drinking beers on pullout sofa in hotel room. Kids and wife in 2 adjacent bedrooms. Winner.

T.J. said...

Oh my god VCU

Danimal said...

Good boy Mark.

Coastal soon realizes what's going on and begins puking on themselves right?

Danimal said...

Remind me to tell my wife that I may have peed in the sink.

rob said...

the tribe thinks vcu just collapsed.

Danimal said...

Holy shit....just saw VCu play. Nice foul. No trutv.

zman said...

I wish the bills traded their sixth round pick for Matt Schaub. Sweet Jesus.

T.J. said...

Ouch.

zman said...

NC Central but we called it the yard.

rob said...

vcu's collapse was 10x worse than the tribe's. so we got that going for us.

TR said...

Requiem for the Big East is so goddamm good. I remember the 80's Big East better than I remember any other college b-ball era or conference.

And for Danimal, do what you gotta do by any means necessary. Creatively drinking and sports-watching in a hotel room w/ wife and kids is an art form.

Danimal said...

My goodness. Ralph Sampson? Not talking here either. Seems about right. Loved him tho.

rob said...

teej, should we offer mark sanchez the starting job on the gtb intramural team?

Danimal said...

Looks like UVA has some female cheerleaders posing as men? Is that the same?

Danimal said...

Gosh damn it I should just pull this cooler over to my bed. It's so heavy though.

Danimal said...

Rachel Nicholls is naughty.

Danimal said...

Would make peein a lot easier though wouldn't it?

TR said...

Just poured the "I'll regret this one tomorrow" scotch. I am totally fine with the Cavaliers being the first 1 seed to get knocked out.

Danimal said...

Ohhhif I had a scotch I'd have 3.

Coastal has no shot. Both teams are back to what they are.

rob said...

teetering on the edge one more drink, tr. it's a bad idea. it's probably gonna happen.

Danimal said...

The Lowe's commercial with the ceiling fan gets me every time.

Danimal said...

Cranberry juice Rob?

Danimal said...

On your vatech/ buzz Williams tweets....early word is buzz will get more jack than Beamer. Rumor is 2.5. Just sent my pal a txt (humble brag alert....the a.d. That hired him). He's apparently been given the checkbook.

I stand corrected for now t.r....hanging around.

Not enough has been made here about Cleanthony Early's name.

rob said...

how do you know babcock, danimal?

Danimal said...

Before I lived in Incester, I lived in Harrisonburg. He was my BFF. He came to the apple capital after I moved and experienced the glory. Buckles knows him.

rob said...

why aren't we discussing a gtb summit in blacksburg? other than the fact that it's a shithole full of mouthbreathers?

Danimal said...

When visiting winc it was usually when the parental units were AWOL. We got into some trouble here and there, theoretically of course.

Danimal said...

I'm sure I am the only one, but am fond of bburg.

This game is over.
