Am I the only guy who loved Ford Fairlane?

I'm willing to bet the answer to that question is a resounding "YES". In that case, this bit of "news" is both boring and inconsequential to everyone (come on Mark, I'm betting you dig the Diceman), but I still felt it was worth mentioning, AND I got to squeeze in a YouTube clip...really, an exhilarating afternoon all around...
ANDREW DICE CLAY RESURFACES IN VH1'S 'DICE UNDISPUTED'
NEW YORK, Feb. 26 -- The self-titled "Rocky of Comedy," Andrew Dice Clay, is coming out of retirement and he's pulling out all stops to do it with a multi-media blitz -- writing a book, cutting a record, producing his own Sirius radio show and playing to the types of crowds that made him a legend. In the VH1 series "Dice Undisputed" viewers will get an intimate and often hilarious look into the highs and lows of this heavyweight king of laugh's personal and professional life as he fights to get back on top. "Dice Undisputed" premieres with back-to-back episodes Sunday, March 4 at 10:00 PM.
I've got room in the DVR - this can replace the freshly departed "Studio 60". I mean, this can't be any worse than the Sizemore or Bonaduce shows right? And don't even get me started on that "I Love New York" debacle...

  1. I like how VH1 is beating this "pathetic semi-celebrity struggling to gt back on top" angle and beating it into the ground. And, yes, I do love Dice though I never really dug Ford Fairlane. (Admittedly, that was a LONG time ago). I will say the chick in the Billy Idol video (Cradle of Love?) from that movie was one of the more influential women of my teen years.

  2. For me, the absolute highlight of that flick (minus the clip I found) is Al Bundy's detective character and the song "Booty Time"...

    "Booty time, booty time across the U.S.A....
    It's booty time, booty time, heh, heh..."

  3. so "retirement" is now a euphemism for "my career sunk so low that i was reduced to playing elks lodges for beer money"?

  4. Didn't Dice have a very special moment on Oprah or something in the 90's? Got all sobby and apologetic for the way he was?

  5. He certainly might have, but I am happy to say I have never seen an episode of Oprah in my life.

  6. Stop watching this crap. This is why real TV show are being canceled.

  7. Settle down Jerome, this show isn't even on yet. And somehow I don't think VH1 pushing this crap got Kidnapped or Vanished canned.

  8. Mark, I hope your boys don't think they can just turn it on again in a week like they did last year. They've laid quite a few eggs recently.

    And I am still mortified by Pat Summit in that cheerleader outfit.

  9. I think thats precisely what they thought up until last night. As strange as this may sound, I think that they finally woke up (collectively) during the 2nd half. The passion and intensity that they played with during their run midway through the 2nd is the hardest I've seen them play in weeks.

    Admittedly, they've still got some problems to solve offensively (shot selection, more efficient post entry and making 3s, to name a few)but I feel as though they took the first step towards reclaiming some of their lost fire last night. Getting embarrased like they did might've been the best thing that could've happened.

    With that said, last night was effing torture. Not only was that 1st half performance historically abysmal, but the rest of the night came off like a commercial for UT. Summit (ughh), Manning, Rokcy Top. Basicaly, my version of hell.

  10. It's all connected. TV is the ultimate copycat league. Fox sees some retarded show on another channel getting OK ratings and costing 10 bucks to produce and they figure they can cancel The OC and all their other shows and replace them with some fat ugly woman yelling at inner city Mexican children.

  11. Speaking of Fox, I managed to watch a show that will make Jerry's head explode, "Are you smarter than a 5th grader?", hosted by Jeff Foxworthy. I can proudly say that yes I am smarter than said 5th graders, but the screening process has found some dum-dums who are not. And I'm sure it is not small pool of morons...

  12. I think it says a lot about the state of modern network TV that I can be cast as a TV snob. Me. It's not like I have a PBS tote bag and umbrella.

  13. And why do you watch this crap? Watch Deadliest Catch. Watch a movie.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I was watching Florida/Tennessee and flipping at commercials...this time of year there is no time for a 2 hour movie. I heard that Deadly Catch show is money, as is something called Man vs. Beast. Can anyone vouch for that one?

  15. Jerry has a point. When he has to whine about "The O.C." being clipped in favor of worse television, that's saying something.

    And Jerry, I can get you that tote bag if you'd like.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I too can vouch for Deadliest Catch. its the balls.

    I've yet to see Man vs. Beast though. You're right though TJ, there's too much good (and important) basketball on TV this time of year to sit down for a two hour movie on a weeknight.

    I'm wondering which of the two (tote bag or umbrella) PBS items Jerry DOES own...Hmmm.

  17. I think Jerry owns this after his 10 dollar donation.

  18. No thanks. I've already went over my quota of inappropriately owned carrying pieces when I bought a backpack from REI last month.

    And let's face it, The OC is one of the better shows that I watch. At least it has some redeeming writing and acting. Vanished was truly awful in every way and I'm pissed they canceled that. All so TJ and all the other TJs out there can feel smarter than the average ugly jerk they put on TV.

  19. I actually watched the last 3 or 4 episodes of the OC, and if they had been that entertaining 2 years ago I would've kept watching. And as only Jerry and I (and like 4 other people) know, the ending to Vanished might be the worst episode of television ever produced.

  20. What we need is a Ford Freeland. A movie about the life and times of a Greek-Israeli Manhattanite who loves strip clubs and mimosas and his struggle to overcome narrow shoulders. Set against the Hindenberg disaster.

  21. i'm sad to report that i finally gave up on 24 this season. i'm down to 'the office' and 'american chopper' as non-sports, non-news shows that i make time to watch.

  22. ken pomeroy has the tribe with a 0.3% chance of winning the caa tourney. that sounds about right. he also has them with a 68% chance of reaching the quarterfinals, which sounds grossly inflated given historical reality.

    good (and long) account of the w&m hoops program's historical struggles. w&m's one of 5 teams in ncaa history to play d-1 hoops for 50 years or more and not make the big dance.

  24. Barry Bonds admits to receiving death threats. It seems a lot less reprehensible than it did when Hank Aaron got them.

  26. OK, maybe it's because I'm hungover, but I will now admit I was very wrong about Texas A&M last year...Acie Law in particular. I know they lost last night, but Law has tremendous brass ones...

    ReplyDelete
  27. That game was unbelievable. There's not player in the country as clutch as Law, not even close actually. The arch he put on his first buzzer beater was insane. Great game.

  28. Whit, I think I spoke too soon on this Wiz bet. My 3-0 lead has quickly become a 3-4 hole. The Heat OWN the Wiz...

    @Philadelphia - WIN
    Minnesota - WIN
    Sacramento - WIN
    @Chicago - LOSS
    @Minnesota - LOSS
    @New Jersey - LOSS
    Miami - LOSS
    Atlanta
    Golden State
    Toronto

  29. The Hawks should be the balm that soothes the Wiz's wounds.

  30. Taj--the unexpected Caron injury has been your downfall. I watched most of the last two losses--Roger Mason Jr. is playing crunch time minutes for the Wiz. this time last year he was playing crunch time minutes for PG County Sanitation Dept.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Fucking Dagger...anytime Mason and DeShawn are playing crunch time minutes it is definitely a problem.
