big one for the tribe tonight, assuming drexel was able to get out of philly. w&m makes a case for the 5th seed in the conference tourney with a win in 1 of their last 3 (admittedly tough) games.

That's weird...I just got off the phone with mom and brother, and the snow is falling at an absurd pace of 2-4" an hour...two feet AT LEAST for Lametham.

Here's the thing, and then I'm dropping this, because this story is already out of control - I do not share the same mindset as Timmy "Terrible NBA analyst" Hardaway, but it was shockingly refreshing to actually here an athlete say what many, many people feel. Maybe refreshing isn't the right word, but I hope you get what I mean. Alot of athletes, and people, hate gays. But Hardaway seems to be the first (Shavlik Randolph was close) to say fuck it, I hate gays, and I don't care I just said it to the public. I found it very interesting, I don't condone what he said, it just amazed me it was in such a public forum.

Of course, he half-assed apologized hours later...

That's what struck me too. He was completely unapologetic in his attitude and tone. Basically saying, "Yeah, I said it!". You're right that far more people feel this way than anybody will admit (them or others).

If nothing else, I'm glad that this guarantees I'll never have to hear Tim stumble through a broadcast of NBA Nation, or whatever the fuck they call it.

And that was in no way an apoology.

Teej, I must disagree. I will call you gay up and down the block in jest, but when it comes to intense bigotry, I can't offer respect to someone simply for being brutally candid. People who fall back on "hey, I'm just being honest" -- and they are a-plenty -- are using that perceived freedom to voice their ugliest opinions without concern for the harm they cause. It takes a much, much bigger person to use tact and discretion to minimize the impact he has on others.

I don't think he's the devil, but I won't laud him, either.

You know, when I reread what I wrote, maybe it does sound like I am applauded Hardaway in some way, and my intention was so far from that...

I think I was just amazed that this was finally said in public, for which Tim certainly does not deserve any credit or applause.

One of the guys on deadspin just made this comment, and I thought I would share (my wife made a similar point to me this morning after I asked her if she agreed with my comment above):

"I can't argue with the guy's right to hold whatever opinion he wants to (no matter how backwards I think it might be) or his right to voice it (and kill his future employability).

What I can't get over is the incredible irony of it. Does he not realize that 150 years ago he was essentially a farm tool? Or that 60 years ago his grandfather was being hung for looking sideways at a white woman? I'll bet Timmy wouldn't have been down with that, or hearing some white guy talk about how he hates "n*****s".

Ladies and gentlemen...Tim Hardaway, future member of MENSA. Not."

That is true in some regard. I remember being in a bar in downtown Richmond and witnessing a group of black guys hollering at several young women who were quite obviously lesbians, hurling epithets accordingly. Once the dudes went away, the women took to using the harshest of racist terms. It just struck me how each side didn't really get it.

Then again, maybe they did. It's the anti-golden rule, do unto others as you cynically believe they would do unto you. If you've had some form of bigoted remarks hurt you your whole life, you figure maybe it's time to be on the other side? Whatever it is, it's pretty sad, and I don't mean that in a condescending way. For once.

the tribe needs one more win to secure the program's 3rd winning season in the past 20 years. also, last night's game marked w&m's 15th win of the season, a total reached only 5 times school history. finally, the tribe is at .500 in conference play in february for the first time since '97-'98.

14. Jhonny Peralta, Cleveland. Last winter, he grew two inches, and his OPS dropped from .886 to .708. He worked hard this winter in Cleveland, so look for something closer to 2005 than 2006.

tale of the tape from last night reveals that i've lost 1/2 an inch from the initial stand-in, and currently am listed at 5'41/2". teejay wins week 1. i'll be sure to measure myself in the morning next week.
