Thinking of a Master Plan Gives Us Something to Believe in

Eric B & Rakim, Poison and Israel are helping me frame thoughts as I think about when we can get ourselves out of quarantine.

News today out of Israel suggests they have a gradual plan to resume economic activity. They're thinking of a master plan. It seems extremely logical and hopefully can be mimicked over here. This plan calls for a four-phase move back to normalcy, as laid out below. Each phase would have a two-week buffer to evaluate its efficacy, before subsequent phases are rolled out. And current rules on social distancing, masks, etc. would remain in place. People over 60 and with health issues would be excluded, which will be a sticky issue for some (but not me!).

Phase 1: Technology, finance and some trade-oriented industries come back. These industries employ 10% of the population

Phase 2: Commerce and retail come back.

Phase 3: Restaurants, hotels and education come back.

Phase 4: Recreation (sports, travel, entertainment) comes back.

Not sure why, but this plan has me excited, if only because it offers a glimmer of hope. It gives me something to believe in. Even if we run out of Smithfield pork by then.

This is outstanding. We need more Eric B & Rakim content.

I like it, dude. Positivity.

And when I look to this administration, I know that they are undoubtedly assembling an all-star team a la The Avengers/Magnificent 7/Ocean's 11/Blues Brothers who can tap into the collective, global intelligence and architect the kind of plan that Hannibal Smith himself would have been proud of.

Or... perhaps... it's more of a Breakfast Club ensemble at best, Police Academy at worst. Eh, at least Police Academy would be funny. This will be more like Animal House if the entire movie were about the Omega House.

Dammit. I'll try to get some positivity brewing like you.

here's what gavin newsom's plan is:

When it comes to re-opening, SCIENCE -- not politics -- must be California's guide.

CA has developed 6 indicators that will help guide how and when we decide to re-open our economy. This isn’t about an on/off switch. This will be a thoughtful process -- led by public health...

1) Ability to monitor and protect our communities through testing, contact tracing, isolating, and supporting those who are positive or exposed

2) Ability to prevent infection in people who are at high risk

3) Ability of hospitals and health systems to handle surges

4) Ability to develop therapeutics to meet the demand

5) Ability for businesses, schools, and child care facilities to support physical distancing

6) Ability to determine when to reinstitute certain measures, such as the stay-at-home orders, if necessary.

I like the Police Academy reference. Does that make Trump Captain Mowser? Who’s Tackleberry? Is it racist to say our surgeon general would be Hightower?

All I know is that Mnuchin is probably portrayed by Tim Kazurinsky's character, whatever his name was.

Praying there's a Mahoney in Washington...

Who plays Kim Cattrall's character? Melania? Ivanka? Jared?

I bet Jared has the softest skin.

At last week's GTB Editorial Mtg, sponsored by Zoom and MeUndies, it was suggested I alert people earlier so attendance can be planned for...so, do we want to try something again, this Saturday, 4:20-ish?

Let me check my calendar...

(Stares at blank page)

4:20 on Saturday works for me!

is anyone starting to lose their shit? the closing of the parks has really crushed my soul. that and no sports-- not on TV-- but playing in my soccer game and tennis with my friends and watching the kids play high school sports. i'm realizing just how much time I normally spend doing that stuff (and then recovering from it). i'm about to go for another fucking run. yuck.

my physical therapist cleared me to run today for the first time in nearly two months. it was slow and a little bit painful, but it was fucking glorious. a pair of different perspectives on pounding the pavement from the gheorghieverse.

i learned today that benji madden has been married to cameron diaz for five years and made a baby with her. if there's a category beyond lyle lovett/julia roberts, i believe we've found it.

My 10 y/o wanted to run w/ me today. He made it a mile at a decent pace. Most kids go hot out of the gate and lose it. Would be nice to see him keep it up. I went 3.4 miles y/day, but running has been a mental struggle. And the crowded sidewalks are a pain.

I’m varying my workouts a bunch to avoid the boredom. I also don’t like running all that much. Bought a speed ladder a few days ago and added that and a bunch of pushups to the mix. I’m desperate at this point.

my wife is doing all these insane push-ups from kickboxing videos. alternate hands, touching your toes, one hand to the sky. I've been trying them, but they kind of hurt my shoulder. it's embarrassing. my pick-up soccer gang was actually trading nostalgic emails today. i figure the best remedy is poker, so I'm setting up a small stakes money game on pokerstars. if you live in jersey and you want to play, text me.

I’m doing basic lifting in my basement and some running/biking. But it ain’t the same. Part of me wants to move my stuff to my garage and work out in my driveway so I can do things like lunges and burpees. That would be aggressive on my block, but I have few fucks to give these days.
