Slow days around these parts, what with the heat and the mid-summer vacation season in full swing. I think our loyal readership could use a bit of a boost. Something with energy, and verve, and all kinds of whimsy.
Craig Engels is the cure for what ails a body.
Engels is an American distance runner, primarily known for his prowess in 800 and 1500m races. In fact, he just upset reigning Olympic gold medalist Matthew Centrowitz to win the national title in the 1500m.
That's cool, and all.
But once you get a look at Engels in all of his free-flowing glory, you'll understand why we celebrate him today. You really only need the description at the 0:16 mark to get the point, but watch the whole race just for kicks.
The flow is real.

The announcer saying "Chocolate Milk Men's 1500 Meter Final" had me confused--for a second I thought this was a race involving milkmen.

Our stay in Charleston was too short for taking anyone up on restaurant recs. The girls both really liked the C of C campus tour. Hell, I’d have loved to go there. We did eat at Leon’s which is a very cool semi-open air place that looks like a converted garage. Excellent raw oysters, fried catfish/shrimp/oysters, and Guinness for this guy.
In Columbia now. SC tour tomorrow AM.
i really wish my daughter was more interested in c of c than she currently is. i'd love to get to visit that place a couple times a year.
Leon's looked awesome! Kinda place where you hope they sell a t-shirt. I miss that town already.
My wife and I did a quick drive-by through Citadel and C of C. I couldn't believe C of C has 12K undergrad. It's a beautiful campus, but not a large one. And it's right in the heart of downtown. The real shocker to us (insert joke here) was that C of C is not only public, but its out-of-state tuition is "only" $31K/year. That's a steal these days.
In-state tuition for USC, Clemson and C of C is all under $15K/year. One more reason for me to wonder WTF I am doing in New Jersey.
And Citadel was cool as hell. They have a giant ring at the entrance. I loved Lords of Discipline.

i don't think i could handle living in SC. it's too hot here in jersey. are there any cheap college north? maine?
Rutgers is $14k in-state, $30k out-of-state. I know a lot of happy successful people who went there for undergrad and/or law school. You could do a lot worse, especially if you want to remain in the NY/NJ/CT area. Methinks TR has been living in our little Catholic school bubble for too long.
true. and i live close enough that my kids could live at home, if need be. the problem is getting in. if they can get in, they will probably go there . . .
