Who's Waldo

We all know at this point that April 20, or 4/20, is linked inextricably to the pursuit of herbal-aided relaxation. By 'all', I might include my 16 year-old daughter, who came downstairs this morning and asked me if I knew what today was. It's fairly culturally universal here in the U.S. of A. I won't comment on whether we're all getting stoned because we know the world is going to shit. I'll leave that analysis to Sentence of Dave, the proprietor of which is apparently in a bit of a blue phase.

The origin of the 420 link to weed is a bit less well understood. Some claim it's related to a police code for marijuana infractions, for example. It's not.

Let's let the fathers of 420 tell the story:

As for me, I plan to celebrate.

Legally, of course. By purchasing a couple of sixers of Lagunitas' Waldos Special Ale and get my couch on. You, obviously, should celebrate in your own way.

great podcast on this: http://wunc.org/post/criminal-meaning-420#stream/0

a very special special sentence of dave today: dave goes to book club . . . beautiful women and prop comedy!

I’ll celebrate with some legal (technically not legal for me) oil and my pen on my couch after I meet up with my sister for dinner. The teen is spending the night with a friend tonight (and probably getting high too) so I can do it all guilt free.

wow, a recurring feature that i’d forgotten about. because of the weed, probably.

What is the younger generations (and by that i mean you guys) stance on Dave Matthews music?

rob said...

i think dave takes way too much shit from people who like to slag popular things. i’ve always like the band.

mr kq said...

Was thinking the same thing. Picked up my first LP - the sound on the 'ol hifi is incredible.

For Whitney, Jameson Caskmate is pretty tasty.

rob said...

cavs/pacers is pretty tasty, too

Danno - stout or IPA version?

Whitney said...

Mr. KQ - you going to Wales vs RSA?

Slated for hip surgery the week of, so most likely out. Although the boys are talking about wheeling me down there so we'll see.

Who's excited about the debut of Major League Rugby today??

i'll gladly slag dave matthews. i don't like the way he says "craaaash" and i don't like his jam band lite sound. i'd throw them in the same category as rusted root.

rob said...

that wasn’t predictable. at all.

Dave said...

maybe a tree branch will fall and hit me in the head and damage my brain and then i'll like stuff like that.

Danimal said...

IPA....haven’t seen the stout.

Mark said...

Dave’s version of “All Along the Watchtower” is good.

pour out something small but mighty for verne troyer

Mark said...

While you’re at it, pour out a little more for a good friend of mine. Recently retired Sheriffs Detective. Father of Four. Fellow basketball junkie. Diagnosed with cancer and dead within two weeks. Fuck cancer.

Fuck cancer.

I coached 3.5 hours of baseball today. Another 2 tmrw. God bless scotch.

The Anthony Davis-Jrue Holiday combo, and the Pelicans in general, look pretty scary right now. If Steph isn’t healthy (and I don’t think he will be) for the Western Conference semis they could legitimately take out Golden State.

rob said...

fuck cancer, for sure

the top team from my daughter's age group played in a state cup match at our home park this afternoon, so i went over to watch it with some of the girls and parents from her team. i got into two separate verbal altercations with adults from our club, and i'm pretty sure i was on the side of the angels in both.

in one case, a parent from my club's team that was playing was being an asshole to the referee, so i called him on it, and he got surly - he thought i was a parent from the visiting side. he calmed down when i explained that i wasn't.

later, in the parking lot on my way out, i stopped to talk to another parent on our team. a dude who was watching the game from his car leaned on his horn because we were standing in his way. leaned on his horn, mind you, instead of just politely asking us to move three feet to the left. so i got into it pretty good with him.

those that know me well may be surprised to learn this, but it's been a loooong time since i got into it with anyone.

i'm not gonna lie to you guys. the adrenaline rush felt pretty good. and since i was damn sure right, it felt even better.

gonna go yell at some neighbors now. i'll let you know how it goes.

Fuck the cancer. Sorry Mark.

Nice job Rob. Fuck the assholes too. You know what I mean,

In a quest to duplicate the perfect Manhattan from my Houston layover on Tuesday, I’ve had 4 and am creeping towards the goods. Will continue to tinker....gettin close, and drunk.

Mark....pancreatic?

Mark said...

Liver. Went undiagnosed until very recently and was so far along it was basically too late.

I got into it with an opposing coach this morning because he accused a couple of my kids of dirty slide tackles. They’re 5. I wish they were skilled enough to pull off a slide tackle. They struggle to remember the direction we’re going on offense. He’s an over serious dick though so I didn’t mind telling him to back off.

Parents are the worst. Actually, people in general are the worst.

I have an inability to mask my disdain for people when the disdain arises. And it does for me all the time b/c I assume folks suck unless they prove otherwise. Pretty sure it cost me my last job. But it is my moral compass, so I’m kinda okay with it.

I got very into it w/ soccer parents of opposing teams twice last fall. Wife was not there to hold me back. They were being a-holes and needed to be called out.

Marls said...

Fuck cancer...and soccer parents...and soccer coaches. They all suck.

Marls said...

Present company excluded, of course...well except for Dave.

zman said...

Fuck soccer.

So sorry about your friend, Mark!
As to altercations and people being jackasses...two pre-school moms had an altercation in the parking lot at the church where I serve this week. None of our staff of the school or church witnessed it. Including me, as I was out of the state when it went down! Threats of police, attorneys, and my ending up working like 20 hours in a week that I am technically OFF has ensued. Yes, at a church pre-school.
It'd be funny if it wasn't, ya know!

I took zson to three different fishing holes but no fish were biting anywhere today. At the last spot, a big pond in the middle of a public park, a large group of young fishermen were smoking a blunt. It was a little nostalgic so see actual dope being smoke, as opposed to some extract to wax being vaped, but zson said "What's that smell?!?" and not in a complimentary tone.

Danimal said...

He’ll learn Z. He’ll learn.

the nba western conference is a little bit bonkers. the wolves probably won't beat the rockets in 7, but they're gonna make it interesting. as mark said, the pels/warriors series is really fascinating with limited steph. and okc/utah is a total crapshoot. pels/thunder in the conference final isn't a crazy outcome.

Mark said...

Donovan Mitchell is a star. He’s Dwayne Wade 2.0 if he hits his ceiling. I realize how high that praise is but he’s got that kind of game and balls.

Mark said...

I don’t believe in the Thunder at all. Mostly because I don’t think Russ is a guy you can win with at the highest level. He’s an extraordinary talent but he’s a flawed teammate who doesn’t allow his teammates to reach their peak.

rob said...

i buy that. but i also buy the way this team fits together, even accounting for russ. george, adams, roberson have diverse and complementary skills. and there's nick collison. can't sleep on nick collison.

Mark said...

Roberson not being available hurts them. Brewer has filled in admirably though. Adams remains underrated. Nick Collison and I both love The Hills so he’s my guy.
