Your Moment of Lekker

Comedy Central announced today that 31 year-old mixed-race South African comedian Trevor Noah will replace Jon Stewart when the latter's 16 year-run at the anchor desk of The Daily Show comes to an end this autumn.

I confess to having never heard of Noah before today. I also confess to rarely even watching Stewart any more, at least at his regular airtime. I'm old and all. But as Noah and Larry Wilmore take over for Stewart and Stephen Colbert, Comedy Central certainly didn't play it safe.

For all we're likely to hear about the socio-racial-political implications of Noah's meteoric ascension to the heights of American late night comedy, he'll sink or swim based on one single factor: is he funny?

Hard to judge by a few random YouTube clips, but he certainly seems a deft mimic and a subtle social critic:

Billy Donovan has developed an affinity for transfers and this year's starting 2 guard, Michael Frazier, just declared for the draft (he's not getting drafted) last week.

Consistent with this post's theme and Shlara's comment, it's refreshing to think the Longhorns may have African American football and basketball coaches.

I would love to see Shaka's defensive schemes at a power conference.

as i told someone else a moment ago, that seems like a weird choice for shaka. hoops will always take a backseat to lord football in austin.

The MEAC women's bowling championship is on ESPNU. Maryland Eastern Shores in a barnburner with a surprisingly multiracial Norfolk State squad.

I'm pretty sure I found this exact event on the telly a year ago and told you folks all about. If you're kicking yourself for missing it last year, you have until 10:30 PM to get your fill this year!

Football will always be #1 but they'll also never be a shortage of funding and support at Texas. Donovan and Matta have done pretty well at football first schools that have big, well funded athletic departments. Plus, Texas is a great basketball state. Loaded with big time HS kids.

I'd love to see if Shaka could make it work there. I think Marshall is the better geographic fit though.
