Death & Taxidermy

The Marls clan is in Hershey, PA today as a stopover on a trip to NJ for a 35th birthday party. Mrs. Marls is using this an opportunity to hit the spa at the Hotel Hershey, leaving me with some welcome quiet time to catch up on the goings on in this crazy world of ours. One tidbit seems perfectly fitting for this space as it combined our beer snobbery with our love of a certain small woodland rodent.

Apparently a group of Scottish brewers calling themselves BrewDog have developed a 55% ABV beer that they named The End of History. Before you run out to your local packie and try to find one of these babies, be forewarned that a single bottle will set you back $750 Americabucks. While that feels a bit steep, you need to take into consideration the unique container the beer comes in.

Not satisfied with a plain ol' label for their bottles, the good folks at BrewDog are swaddling their creation in the carcass of a roadkill squirrel.

So before today's games begin, go out, grab a six pack and toast to high alcohol brews, college basketball, and Rob's rodent relatives who made the ultimate sacrifice so that you could drink out of a cool bottle.

i can't decide if this is awesome or awful. it's perhaps a brilliant mix of both.

Do they wash the dead squirrels before putting them on the bottle?

There must be some form of rodent levage prior to putting them on. Road gack and guts would inhibit the drinking experience.

i was thinking gonzaga's run ends with duke, but after watching them both play and looking at the zags' body of work this season, i'm not so sure. gonzaga's only losses were to arizona on the road in overtime and to byu in a close conference game. they manhandled just about everyone else, and they're bigger than duke and as skilled offensively.

duke, meanwhile, is more explosive, and okafor will be the best player on the court. they didn't really have a bad loss, save miami. and they're duke, which may cause the zags some nervousness.

still not sure gonzaga wins, but it's not the sure thing i thought it might be before i got a good look at mark few's team.

Gonzaga blowing out opponents doesn't matter much to me as their conference was pretty poor this year but I agree that their size should cause Duke problems. One of my issues with Gonzaga is that their guards aren't creators and that catches up to them against good defensive teams. Luckily for them, Duke's guards aren't very good defensively and they're small. It's a very interesting matchup.

Oh, and Duke will have the second best player too. Justise Winslow is a monster. I love that guy.

the zags whipped their noncon foes, too. winslow's gonna cause huge matchup problems, though. you're right about that.

I'm on my way to see Atmosphere in Orlando in a bit. Going to stop at the secret Nike outlet in Kissimmee on the way. Ill be catching the Arizona-Wisconsin game at a bar in downtown Orlando before the show. Good times.

Gonzaga's non con schedule wasn't exactly challenging but I get your point. They're very good. I like them because I'm in the bag for all things Sabonis.

If you're looking for some basketball before the Elite Eight games today, Florida Southern is taking part in the D2 Championship game on CBS at 3.

Florida Southern is located in Lakeland which is in no way Southern Florida. Its one of the blue blood programs of D2 basketball (if there is such a thing).

I attended team basketball camps their all throughout high school and dated a cheerleader from their during my time at Florida. Most of their campus was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Thus ends your Florida Southern history lesson.

Go Moccasins!

rob said...

you had me at frank lloyd wright. also, cheerleader.

that's a pretty cool looking campus.

Alma Mater of Rocco Mediate and Lee Janzen, two douches from the PGA Tour.

Mark said...

Indeed, Danimal. They are featured prominently in the trophy case in the lobby of Florida Southern's gym.

Lakeland sucks but Florida Southern is cool. The school and the Detroit Tigers spring training facility are the only cool things about that city. Well, Lakeland High's mascot is the Dreadnaughts so that's cool too.

Arizona/Wisconsin is a great cheerleader matchup.

This game shouldn't be a Regional Final.

zman said...

Agreed. I love all the ethnic Central European names in this game.

Stuck at town fundraiser. No TVs and cash bar. I'm thinking out of spite, bidding on the lice treatment for family of four with all our tickets. The value is estimated at $350. What the hell could that include? Happy ending?

zman said...

Pubic lice?

zman said...

Who wants to publicly admit that they have a lousy family? No one will bid on that so you'll definitely win.

Donna said...

Who offers lice treatment as an auction item? Is this a joke?

Mark said...

Seriously. What kind of auction is this?

Squeaky said...

Education foundation auction. The beauty of it is my wife's name is on the ticket. So she will get called up.

Dave said...

lice treatment HAS to be a joke prize. bid on it. i bet you'll win a jet ski or something similar.

We've moved onto the comedy improve part of the event. First couple up was asked to help with first thing that comes to their mind to help with scene. Wife "butt sex" then after reminding them its for the kids, husband gets his chance. "Naked team diving" from the husband. Wife gets one one more shot "ball sack". And they are yanked.
