Greatest Gift Ever?

The lady of the house outdid herself this year, delivering the gift below for today's combo Valentines Day/Gheorghe's Birthday celebration:

Resting on the counter...
Managed to hang it on the wall during yesterday's taxing snow day...
@baconbaking gives good gift...

  1. NBA TV naming HOF finalist now...making me feel REAL old: Mitch Richmond, Alonzo, Gary Williams, Hardaway, SPencer Haywood, KJ, Eddie Sutton, Nolan Richardson...

  2. Kudos to Jess. That there is a spot-on gift. You owe her something big. No, that's not big enough.

  3. Clarence, The Teej did a great job. Red Toms for me....meaning shoes for a kid who needs them. :)

  4. Gheorghe's Birthday is such a hallmark holiday.

  5. Good job bringing the funnies today, folks. New work firewall does not value the bog much and blocks it, so I am forced to catch up on my train home, unless I need to call for the curve during the work day.

V-Day is indeed a bit of a joke. I bought the missus a vacuum six years ago. It was a badass Dyson and she actually asked for it. Our floors have been clean as hell ever since. But flowers remain a fail-safe option.

My wife's b-day is in late March and our anniversary is in early June. That makes five "events" b/w Xmas and our anniversary (including Mother's Day). Grouping gifts is the way to go.

  8. I spent the last 2 days shoveling 2 feet of snow off my steep driveway. And part of my street as I don't expect a plow til after pres day. Made it to the store for chocolates, flowers and booze (I ran out of beer for the first time in 20 yrs). I don't think I'll be able to lift my arms above robs head tomorrow

  9. Journey live from Manila is on Palladia. Funny and sad to see the fake Perry try to cajole some life from the crowd. Btw, the dude sounds very much like old Steve-O.

The Thrilla in Manila this ain't.

  10. Men's figure skating is a joke. One competitor just finished his routine and grabbed a giant teddy bear that he hugged while waiting for his score. Another just came out wearing a blouse that even Johnny Weir would call effeminate.

These guys are caricatures of themselves.

  11. Just watched an instructional video on curling. The ice is differently textured than hockey ice. On hockey ice, you'd be hard pressed to get a stone to go more than 20 feet.
    Now you know.

  12. OT hockey! Percocets! Saturday!

  13. Russia should get a medal for their hockey sweaters.

  14. TJ Oshie...that guys's money, Eddie.

  15. I do kinda feel like Russia got jobbed.

  17. Best part of the De La downloads (besides being free) is the speed in which they download. a couple minutes at most per album. Still available until noon. Get on it if you haven't already.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I too was pleasantly surprised by the download speed. Thanks again for the heads up.

  20. had to take my little one to the walk-in clinic with 3 minutes left in regulation. missed oshie and quick's heroics. and she's got strep. usa!

  21. Frank Rommel should consider a name change.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Something more romantic? Like "Lance Rommel"?

    ReplyDelete
  23. just saw the shootout. that was cool. kovalchuk's goal in round 6 was the best shootout score i've ever seen. it was sick. and tj oshie's athletic arrogance is off the charts - in a good way. love that shit.

  24. tribe favored by 4.5 to 5 at home against towson this afternoon, depending on your book of choice. that line feels too big to me. teams are tied for second in the caa at 7-3. w&m has a great offense, towson has the league's best defense. towson's jerelle benimon will have his way on the interior, but they don't do much on the perimeter. the tribe can win this one, but i don't like that line. take towson and the points.

  25. Question by Moody Blues was an unexpectedly fun tune to crank in the car a few minutes ago. Thank you satellite radio.

  26. My parents love The Moody Blues. They cranked them in our house on the regular when I was child.

Speaking of blue, fuck Kentucky. Can't stand their hillbilly fans.

  27. Fancypants dress shirt shop in local mall is giving away Glenmorangie scotch. The women working there have no idea how much to pour. They gave me a 4 oz glass. When I left, I joked about a to-go cup. They went and fetched me a clear plastic cup. So I'm now rolling through a mall drinking scotch. Good times.

  28. TR has won the day. We can all give up.

Threw the Tribe game in a four team parlay (the football offseason blows for betting). Took Towson +5 based on Rob's comments on the Towson D. I hope the Tribe win by 4 or less.

  29. Underrated game of the day is easily VCU-St. Louis. Kind of torn, love VCU and Shaka Smart but my entire family is from St. Louis and my old man went to St. Louis University High.

  30. Young Ella Bradley, daughter of Gus, was my son's counterpart in hoops today. In an attempt to go unnoticed, cuz, ya know, jags/Gus fandom can get totally out of control, coach sat on the back bleacher with a navy blue, completely logoless (seriously...where do u find a logo less hat) hat pulled down low. I like Gus...but that was just plain silly.

    ReplyDelete
  31. That's a bit much. I like Gus though. Best coaching hire by the Jags since Coughlin.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Agreed....I dig him, not that it matters. The team though is unanimously head over heels for the guy. Not too late to get on the jags train people!

Oshi is getting extra laid tonight.

Heading to outdoor mall shortly...Tr may inspire me.

  33. pretty crappy first half for the tribe, but they're only down 7. towson is a much, much more physical team. killing w&m with strength.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Am I too cynical thinking Kevin Plank and team Under Armour breathed a sigh of relief after yet another average performance by Shani Davis, post suit switch?

  35. The bottle was Glenmorangie Signet, their "high end" stuff. I was only familiar w/ their sherry and port wood finished scotch. Interwebs say it's a $160 bottle. Sure was tasty.

    ReplyDelete
  36. TJ Oshie's lady is, um, pretty healthy.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'll say it. I hate the skills challenge.

    ReplyDelete
  38. It's garbage. A terrible byproduct of the need to promote the WNBA during its early days.

    ReplyDelete
  39. It's not quite the same as a big Florida football game but I'm pretty pumped for tonight's game.

  40. wife asked me to go to the liquor store to pick up some cheap rum for a punch she's making. as a token of my appreciation for myself for making the effort, i also grabbed a bottle of basil hayden. yay, me!

    ReplyDelete
  41. You earned that, Rob.

So I rallied yesterday and probably went overboard on V-Day gifts. Turns out the cool gift my wife got for me was some sausage from the butcher shop and some Dale's Pale Ale. Not terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Did you ... give her some of your sausage?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anna Fenninger motivates me to save the cheetah.

    ReplyDelete
  44. That was part of my gift, natch.

I won't give her any of my Dale's, though.

  45. like sam the butcher bringing alice the meat

  46. How bout them Gators? I really enjoyed that game. The second half more than the first.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Mark, your Gators look tough. Our Tribe... not so much.

RIP Jim Fregosi. Dutch, Nails, Head, Wild Thing, and Phils fans everywhere tip their caps. We Mets fans, of course, regard him mainly as the guy for whom Nolan Ryan was traded, but our pal Evan thought Frego was aces.
