Chili Cook-Off at Cracker Factory Today

The wife lost by a vote last year, and is out for revenge. The batch of chili she has made this year is absurd. It should win. But then again, we felt the same last year. All I know is it's about time to hop on the ol' FLAVORTOWN EXPRESS...

Triple D(eez nutz)
The chili recipe (from the day's winner):

Pre cook all:
2lbs ground beef…fat drained
1 lb chuck
1 package Andouille sausage cut up (easier to cut it cooked)

Grind up in food processor or chop:
2 bell red peppers
1 lg white onion
A handful of peppers: jalepeno, haberno, 1 thai, pablano etc

Add together meats and veggies with spices: (I have no idea how much of each. I think this is the order of most to least)
Paprika
Chili powder
Red pepper flakes
Cumin
Cinnamon

Added in:
1 28oz crushed tomatoes
1 8oz tomato paste
1 16oz tomato sauce

Cooked more

Added in:
1 Porter beer
Cup of coffee
1 cup stock
¾ cup real maple syrup…Vermont fancy pants stuff

Cooked for a couple hours on stove top.
And now its in crockpot all day. On the stove top it didn’t cook the chuck enough. Would probably be a-ok tho to eat for dinner that night and just eat leftover reheated.

Say what you want about the Olympics but no other event would motivate to take the afternoon off to watch Hockey with friends. USA! USA!

I'd also like to request that TJ wear that outfit when he and Mrs. Teej visit in March.

Done. I will pack it. And my chili *should* win. Includes chuck and ground beef and andouille sausage, super spicy...with porter beer and maple syrup. For accouterments I included the standard cream and cheese, but upped my game with french fries.

Hey, Danimal, did you comment sometime that you will be in the NYC area next weekend?

Danimal said...

Clarence - yes & no. Yes that I will be in NYC, but not next weekend. It's kind of an odd itinerary, but it works for us with kidlets at home - arrival Thursday the 13th, departure the 15h. Uncle Buckles will not be in attendance however others you know well will be - MF, TT, CS, Croy P., TW

Mark said...

Jessica- you may have to cool that chili too. That sounds AWESOME.

rob said...

Mark said...

So Fred Davis caught is DUI at 3:45 PM? That's putting in some serious early work.

i just made similar chili and it was awesome -- spicy sausage out of the case and honey instead of syrup.

Danimal said...

Jessica said...

Recipe sent! Kinda made it up on the fly. I'm glad you asked so I could write it down to replicate it.

Danimal said...

thank you!

Effin Canada. Again, heh.

Mark said...

I have received the chili recipe as well. Nice start to the weekend.

I'm in silver spring enjoying a rowan creek small batch bourbon and listening to Neil Young. Some of this is highly enjoyable.

mayhugh said...

I was in Philly to buy my wife's engagement ring. And I'm not going back until I have to buy a second one.

Mark said...

Are you going to re-engage your wife? Mayhugh is the Doug Christie of G:TB.

mayhugh said...

Seriously, you have to buy low. Anything you get will be seen as something to be approved upon. This is likely old news to the seasoned members and contributors of GTB. For 5th, 10th and 25th and any other milestone anniversary (provided I live that long) she is getting a cat.

mayhugh said...

Or "improved". I like drinking right now.

rob said...

that's a pretty egregious etiquette breach by mayhugh

mayhugh said...

Whiskey hurts my head right now.

zman said...

No one needs that many cats. I didn't get zwoman an engagement ring.

This Arizona anti-gay bill is interesting. Asking on behalf of Marls, what if looking at a sexy transvestite once gave you an erection? Does that mean you can be refused service? Hypothetically speaking, of course.

rob said...

wrens are 5-point home favorites against northeastern today, coming off two dreadful performances in their last three games. says here they bounce back. give the points.

mayhugh said...

Watching the combine - Big Giant Olinemen are running the 40 YD dash right now. I find this oddly captivating. It's also scary to see a 320 pound dude cover ground quickly.

Marls said...

I once killed a drifter just to keep an erection.

zman said...

His or yours?

i am making this chili this week, once the temps drop back into single digits. sounds awesome. coffee! beer! syrup! those are good secret ingredients because you can enjoy them in or out of the chili.

Florida is unbelievably good defensively. They just grind teams down and pull away late. Crazy stat: They've out scored their last six opponents 234-172 in the second half.

rob said...

just macked an alligator sausage po boy at the reading terminal market. that place is heaven.

mayhugh said...

Mark - have not watched Florida much; is their defense better than last year, when I recall them doing basically the same thing?

Tribe doing their best to give this game away, but at least it's on TV.

mayhugh said...

Thornton has 23 with 5 for 7 on threes. Tribe up 16 with 3:18 to play.

rob said...

that should just about sew up the 3 seed in the conference tourney for the wrens.

Mark said...

Yes, they're better defensively than last year. That has much to do with being more experienced than last year and deeper as well. They go 9 deep this year and are bigger, more athletic.

The biggest difference overall for Florida this year is how good they've been in close games which was not the case in the previous two years.

Mark said...

Also, here's my conter to TR on Evan Turner.

He's not the same type of good stats/bd team type of player as Abdur-Rahim. He's much more a jack of all trades type guy AND he's been a valuable piece on a playoff team before. His 76er team took Boston to 7 games in the playoffs two years ago. Further, he's a free agent this summer so I doubt he'll openly pout about minutes/shots for Indiana. If he pouts in the playoffs on team with legit championship hopes he'll kill his value as a free agent. Finally, he's a nice insurance policy for Indiana for Lance Stephenson. Stephenson is going to be highly sought after as a free agent this summer. Indiana wants to keep him but it some other team makes a ridiculous offer that Indiana doesn't want to match they'll have a similar type of do it all, point forward in Turner that they can plug in to Stephenson's spot if they like what he's given them since coming over.

Clarence said...

Zman's counter to Marls' drifter comment still has me laughing pretty hard.

Mark said...

The team me and friends scrimmage in the summer (Melbourne High School) made the 7A state final four tonight.

Lumpy said...

Clarence, pun intended?

Mark said...

I watched The Place Beyond the Pines last night on HBO. Not exactly what I was expecting.

Mark said...

As much as it hurts to say it, Greg's old high school is killing it in sports this year. Boys basketball in the final four. Boys and Girls soccer both won state titles last weekend.

Dave said...

hey gheorghies!

not so late for you, but late for me . . . .

Blake Bortles appears to be a John C Reilly character.

AJ Mccarron is looking pretty good. From a football perspective.

Sammy Watkins is a monster. 4.34 40.

Very nice to watch Oden to get the start today. He looks okay running around out there.

Mark said...

My beard has officially reached getting food stuck in it length. Got some egg yolk caught up in it earlier today.

Marls said...

Anybody watching the Accenture Match Play? This may go all night.

TR said...

Rick Steve's' Europe is always a good time. Such a weird dude. Such a kick-ass gig.

Mark said...

Goran Dragic might be might second favorite guard in the NBA to watch play. I never saw that coming.

TR said...

Jason Collins has now been in the Nets-Lakers game for three minutes and the world hasn't ended. Decent ovation from the LA crowd when he came in.

He isn't showing rust, considering his game consists of setting moving screens, fouling guys in the paint and boxing out.

Refreshingly it seems like a total non-event.

Clarence said...

TV bits...

Rick Steves knows his shit. His voice is fairly ridiculous, but I trust his recs.

Z, I gave up on Downton for the reasons discussed. Fucking depressing.

And Jimmy Fallon is reminding me if myself lately. As I lie here prostrate.

Clarence said...

Oh, also, while I was in feverish misery for half a week I re-watched every sketch The State ever did. Evident brilliance amid a lot of really insanely weird experimental jokes. Love those guys.

I'm out of heeeeeeere.
